Carlos Martinez’s Slider– Martinez got stuck with a loss Monday against Pittsburgh even after striking out seven batters. One of his victims on the night was Josh Harrison, who could only throw a bat at this filthy Slider that worked its way across the plate. (Thanks to @_larimore for the tip!)
Edinson Volquez’s Changeup – Volquez has seen his ERA jump lately, but it’s not for a lack of nasty off-speed stuff. Just watch this crazy Changeup slide in on Darwin Barney for the K.
Max Scherzer’s Slider – Mad Max broke his four-game streak of double-digit K’s by only striking out seven batters Monday. One of those Ks came on this expertly executed Slider that dives away from Jonathan Lucroy.
Aaron Sanchez’s Fastball – The Toronto starter has gone eight innings with only one earned run in back-to-back starts now. It’s easy to see why he’s been so successful lately when his strikeout pitches are on point. This Fastball starts off on a path to the opposite batter’s box, totally fooling Whit Merrifield.
Brett Cecil’s Curveball – Cecil said he made some adjustments to his Curveball while on the DL, and it looks like those adjustments were just what the doctor ordered. Look at this breaking ball that tumbles inside and completely baffles Salvador Perez for the whiff and subsequent strikeout. (Thanks to Redditor Funkagenda for the tip!)
