Dylan Maples’ Slider – Maples had a disastrous outing Friday against the White Sox (2 ER, 3 H, 0 IP). Luckily, we get to ignore all that, because he also threw this ridiculous breaker to Daniel Palka in a flash of brilliance. If only he harnessed it.

Chris Sale’s Slider – Sale’s signature out pitch is death incarnate on opposing hitters, and Friday showed as much. He picked up 13 CSW (six whiffs) on 22 thrown to help him rack up seven K’s…in 3.1 innings. Yikes. Here, Jason Kipnisarms weren’t as long as he thought.

Jose Berrios’ Curveball – Berrios no doubt lost a few fantasy playoff matchups with his five-ER outing against the A’s, but he at least garnered eight strikeouts in his 5.2 innings. He had his trademark hook working here against Matt Olson for the swinging strike.

Jimmy Cordero’s Two-Seamer – The Nats reliever threw a scoreless frame against the Mets, and he did so with the help of this tailing 98 mph fastball that darted under Austin Jackson’s bat for the whiff. A few more like these, please, Mr. Cordero.

Kirby Yates‘ Splitter – Call him W.B., because this Yates offering was pure poetry against L.A. rookie Alex Verdugo. The Padres reliever pitched 1.1 innings at Dodger Stadium for his 10th save.

Blake Treinen’s Sinker – It’s only fitting that the most recognizable pitch from perhaps the most GIFable pitcher of 2018 pushes us into the second-to-last weekend of the regular season. The A’s closer was at it again Friday, scorching Minnesota’s Jorge Polanco with some inside heat.
