Injury Report—7/15

Jeff Davis provides an update in today's edition of the Injury Report.

Hello and welcome to the Injury Report!

This roundup is a biweekly article, published on Mondays and Fridays, where I aim to detail approximately five relevant injuries that have occurred over the past few days or provide an update on the injury of a prominent MLB player. I will try to incorporate the available information as well as my own knowledge and experience to approximate a return date in each case, noting the individual characteristics of the injuries and of the players themselves.

If you have questions regarding an injury not detailed in this article, feel free to comment below, and I will give my best effort to provide a timely update.

Mitch Haniger—Testicular Contusion

Mitch Haniger continues to move toward a return to play. Haniger is set to visit with doctors at some point this week and hopes to be cleared to resume baseball activities. Should that be the case, we can expect Haniger’s return within a month.

Estimated return: Early August.

Pablo Lopez—Shoulder Injury

Pablo Lopez is approximately two weeks into a throwing program with no reported complications. Should he continue on this track, he will likely return for the beginning of August.

Estimated return: Early August.

Mike Trout—Right Calf Tightness

Mike Trout injured his calf and will undergo a precautionary MRI today. This does appear to be a minor injury, and we should get that confirmed at some point Monday. Trout may miss a game or two but should be playing for a majority of this week.

Estimated return: Return to play within this week.

Max Scherzer—Mid-Back Injury

Max Scherzer has been experiencing some lingering soreness in his mid-back and has now been placed on the IL. The move is retroactive to July 10, and Scherzer has a good chance of returning when first eligible on July 20.

Estimated return: July 20th.

Chris Taylor—Left Wrist Injury

Chris Taylor was hit by a pitch on Sunday. He will undergo X-rays today. There is potential for a left ulna fracture, which would result in a four- to six-week recovery time prior to returning to baseball activities. If it is a contusion, which is the more likely outcome, Taylor should return within a week.

Estimated return: Some point this week, though may change following X-ray.

I read no sporting activities for 6 weeks to 3 months with shoulder dislocations. Mondesi has a partial shoulder dislocation. When do you believe he’ll be back?
