Injury Report: 8/16

Jeff Davis provides an update in today's edition of the Injury Report.

Hello and welcome to the Injury Report!

This roundup is a bi-weekly article, published on Mondays and Fridays, where I aim to detail approximately five relevant injuries that have occurred over the past few days or provide an update on the injury of a prominent MLB player. I will try to incorporate the available information as well as my own knowledge and experience to approximate a return date in each case, noting the individual characteristics of the injuries and of the players themselves.

If you have questions regarding an injury not detailed in this article, feel free to comment below, and I will give my best effort to provide a timely update. I fell behind on some questions from earlier this week so I have made sure to include those players in today’s report.

Blake Snell – Left Elbow Surgery

Blake Snell has begun to throw off flat-ground with no concerns. He is trending towards a return in mid September, with a chance he is ready closer to the beginning of the month.

Estimated return: Early to mid September.

Giancarlo Stanton – Right PCL Sprain

Giancarlo Stanton has resumed baseball activities, including hitting off a tee and throwing. I don’t believe he’s been running at this time, but that will be a good indicator he is near ready once he begins running drills. He is on track for a mid September return.

Estimated return: Mid September.

Brandon Lowe – Right Shin Contusion

Brandon Lowe did not sustain structural damage, so this rehabilitation has been about pain management. Lowe has begun a rehab assignment and will likely return to play within a week.

Estimated return: Late next week.

Robbie Ray – Lower Back Spasms

Robbie Ray left his Wednesday start due to back spasms, though an MRI did not reveal any larger issue. Ray has a chance to only miss one turn in the rotation.

Estimated return: Return when first eligible.

Gerrit Cole – Right Hamstring Discomfort

Gerrit Cole was scratched from his Tuesday start due to right hamstring discomfort. All reports indicate this is mild, and Cole has not been placed on the IL. Cole is expected to return to the mound at some point next week.

Estimated return: Next week.

If there is a player on whom you would like information who I have not detailed in this article, please comment below, and I will reply as I am able.

There have been some recent updates on Cueto. What do you think? Does he have a chance to be a decent asset down the stretch? How might we value him in keeper leagues?

Hi Jeff, there has been some mystery around how serious Fernando Tatis Jr.’s back injury is. Are you able to shed any light on that situation?

  3. Larry Lemon says:

Any updates on Gallo or Mondesi?
