It was a quiet offseason here at Pitcher List, and I’m incredibly excited to finally reveal what the team has been working on tirelessly.
We’ve recreated the Pitcher GIFs database, featuring GIFs of each pitch every MLB starting pitcher throws in his repertoire. There are still kinks to iron out with both the new site and database (such as getting our comments back), but we felt it was time to let you guys in on the fun as we polish the site in the coming weeks. Treat this as a Beta as we enter opening day.
I’m sure there are some questions, so I’ve prepared a FAQ:
How can it be back? Weren’t there issues with MLBAM before?
Yes there were, and we strongly believe that our current presentation and usage of GIFs is fully compliant with Fair Use.
Really?
Yes, really.

What’s new on the site since Pitcher GIFs?
Outside of our bigger focus on analytical content that focuses on the deeper elements of baseball that we started with Pitcher List, the biggest change is the transformation of our player pages, which now feature the following items:
– Pitch descriptions for each GIF that provide fun facts and details each pitch’s role in the pitcher’s repertoire
– Spiffy new “List” with update arrows
– A super cool stats table that has every stat you’d want in one location instead of moving between different pages and scrolling constantly including:
– Season stats
– Game Log
– Advanced Sabermetric Stats
– Full implementation of our custom stat VPR that dictates a pitcher’s consistency
Where are the relievers?
I could only get through starters in time for Spring Training, though I’ve already begun adding relievers. The goal is to have every single pitcher who threw a ball last season, as well as projected members of each team’s staff on the site with descriptions in May.
Where is [insert your favorite stat]?
We’re hoping to get more stats included as we move out of Beta, though there are certain premium stats we will be unable to provide simply because they aren’t accessible.
What happened to features X and Y?
We built this new site from the ground up, which will give us more freedom to provide what you guys want for the long haul. It comes at the expense of sacrificing some features (comments, excellent article archive, etc.) at the moment, so consider this a beta as we continue to work, adding these elements to the site in the coming weeks.
What features are you planning to add in the future?
We have a lot of areas we want to expand upon, and we are working hard to get them up and running on the site as soon as possible. We don’t want to ruin the surprise by revealing them too soon, and we’ll be sure to announce them when they are live.
That should cover most of the bases. Feel free to reach out to us on Twitter @ThePitcherList or email us at info@PitcherList.com with any questions. Enjoy the site, and I suggest taking a look at the GIF Scavenger Hunt to help discover pitchers from across the league.
