Today’s Headlines

Steele Young

The Cubs’ Justin Steele is having a Cy-worthy season, but may have just pitched his best start of the year, going eight full with 12 strikeouts.

Julio Urías Arrested for Domestic Violence, Again

It was announced Monday that Dodger pitcher Julio Urías was arrested late Sunday night for domestic violence. It’s the second such arrest for Urías, who will likely be placed on administrative leave while the league investigates. The Dodgers stated they are investigating and Urías will not travel with the team in the meantime.

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence or the threat of domestic violence, you can call the National Domestic Violence Hotline for help at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233), or go to www.thehotline.org for anonymous, confidential online chats, available in English and Spanish.

Julio Rodríguez Is Historic

Julio Rodríguez belted his 25th homer of the season on Monday, making him the only 25 homerun, 25 stolen base player for each of his first two seasons in MLB history. The Mariners fell to the Reds, however, and are now tied with the Astros and the Rangers just a game behind in the AL West. Buckle up.

Best Moments From Yesterday

It’s “Eras Tour,” Not E.R.A’s tour.

Come on Jose, you don’t have to put it on your daughters. We are all Swifties.

Save Some Grand Slams for the Rest of Us, Royce!

Yeesh, that’s three grand salamis in eight games for the Twins’ electric (and seemingly healthy!) rookie. In just 175 PA, Royce Lewis has 10 homers and is slashing .307/.354/.521. The Twins beat the Guardians, 20-6 and are pulling away in the AL Central.

Injuries

Shohei Ohtani’s agent confirmed that Ohtani will have to have some kind of procedure in the offseason on his ailing elbow, but did not commit to that procedure being a surgery. Nez Balelo, the agent, said that Ohtani will be ready to hit at the start of the 2024 season. However, later in the day Ohtani was also scratched from Monday’s night’s contest with right oblique tightness.
