Luis Gil’s Four-Seam Fastball
After Tuesday’s postponement, Luis Gil started game one for the Yankees on Wednesday morning. Gil tossed five scoreless innings on the way to a Yankee victory while striking out six. He got Brandon Drury to chase a fastball way up and in at 97 MPH.
Chris Sale’s Four-Seam Fastball
Chris Sale’s renaissance in Atlanta continued Wednesday as the veteran lefty struck out ten over only four and two-thirds innings. Sale is known for his slider but picked up a strikeout of Gary Sanchez on a fastball upstairs.
Carlos Carrasco’s Changeup
Carlos Carrasco took the mound on Wednesday looking to record his first win since June but unfortunately was unable to accomplish this in a 5-3 loss to the Diamondbacks. He struck out five in the outing and placed this change perfectly to get Jake McCarthy looking.
Brandon Pfaadt’s Changeup
Brandon Pfaadt faced off with Cleveland and picked up a win and a quality start over six and a third innings. Pfaadt struck out six and got Bo Naylor to chase a nice change below the zone.
Blake Snell’s Curveball
After a very rough start to the season, Blake Snell has rebounded back to his Cy Young form. In his first start since his no-hitter, Snell struck out another eight batters over six innings. He froze James Wood here on a great curve.
Michael King’s Changeup
Though it was only five innings, Michael King recorded another strong start for the Padres on Wednesday in Pittsburgh. King struck out seven Pirates and got Bryan Reynolds here on a change.
Taj Bradley’s Cutter
After a string of great starts, Taj Bradley struggled for the second consecutive outing, this time against St. Louis. Bradley exited an out shy of five innings, and only recorded three strikeouts in the effort. He did ring up Lars Nootbaar in the first on a perfectly placed cutter.
Aroldis Chapman’s Sinker
It was a laborious inning for Aroldis Chapman in the eighth, but he escaped unscathed thanks to a 105 MPH fastball spotted on the inside corner.
Justin Martinez’s Splitter
Justin Martinez appears to have taken over the closer role in Arizona and it’s easy to see why with nasty stuff like this. He punched out Bo Naylor with a filthy splitter in the ninth.
Nick Sandlin’s Splitter
Nick Sandlin was only needed for two outs on Wednesday but made sure to drop in this nasty splitter to Eugenio Suarez before he left.
