Following up on our weekly Closers and Holds articles will be our Top 100 RP’s for SV+HD leagues every Friday. Use this list to get a feel for the current reliever market and to gauge value for trades, waiver adds, etc. Keep in mind, holds are much more volatile and harder to predict. We’ve only seen one season from a pitcher with more than 30 holds since 2016, while 26 closers have gone over 30 saves in that same timeframe.
NOTES
- Returning to the list this week we have Andrew Miller, Justin Miller, Koda Glover, Joe Kelly and Cody Gearrin and also welcome newcomers Dakota Hudson and Paul Fry. Andrew Miller is back after a longer than expected absence, but as long as he doesn’t suffer any setbacks could move up the list fairly quickly. Hudson and Glover are two young guns to keep an eye on moving forward, as both are talented enough to be shut down high leverage relief options.
- We lost a total of 7 relievers this week including Kenley Jansen, Kelvin Herrera, Chris Devenski, Anthony Swarzak, Juan Nicasio, Shane Carle and Daniel Hudson all mostly to injury. Jansen has yet to be placed on the DL but he will miss this weekends series against the Rockies with an irregular heartbeat, and knowing the Dodgers, they will play it safe (as they should) and keep him out at least another week.
- Nine relievers have had 3 SV+HD’s over the past week. Scott Alexander, Steve Cishek, Edwin Diaz, Trevor Hildenberger, Brandon Kintzler, Fernando Rodney, Taylor Rogers, Hector Rondon and Pedro Strop. Despite the nice week, I don’t see much reason to roster Rodney in holds leagues now that he is moving to a loaded Athletics bullpen. There’s no way he jumps ahead of guys like Lou Trivino or Jeurys Familia, and he still has to fight for holds with guys like Ryan Buchter, Emilio Pagan, and Yusmeiro Petit.
Even before the Kenley Jansen news, I thought I might see Dylan Floro on here. He’s got more SV+H and better ratios than many others on the list (and many of my RP!) in the last 30 days. Might you include him now that Jansen is gone for a month?
He just missed this list after debuting on the Hold Up yesterday and knowing Jansen is out for longer I would have included him here. Still, like Alexander and probably Baez over him but he can definitely help out until they move Maeda into a setup/closer role as has been rumored.
