Welcome to another edition of the 2024 two-start pitcher rankings!
My rankings have four tiers: Set and Forget, Probably Start, Questionable, and Avoid. Set and Forget starters are simply that; get them in your lineup and don’t think twice. The Most Likely Start tier includes players with the mix of skill and matchups that make them almost certainly two-start plays, but not without some elevated risk compared to the top tier. Questionable starters are those best suited for daily lineup leagues where you can bench them against the tougher of their two opponents or are more situation-dependent in weekly leagues. Finally, we have the Avoid tier, which includes two start SPs who should remain on your bench or the wire.
Each week, I’ll be selecting my Two-Start Streamer of the Week. The criteria for a streamer will be a rostered rate under 50% in Yahoo leagues. The Streamer of the Week will be highlighted in the tables in green. Reach out to me in the PL+ Discord or on Twitter @AnthonyTucker81 and let me know if you’d grade the weekly streamer as a win or loss.
As a friendly reminder, the projected starters are just that, projections and subject to change.
Set and Forget
- It’s likely Paul Skenes sees some shorter outings as the Pirates look towards 2025. Even if he’s on a pitch count, he’s still at the top of the rankings this week as he looks to put the finishing touches on an electric rookie season.
Most Likely
- Tanner Houck has continued to build upon a breakout season, but hasn’t recorded a win since before the All-Star Break. He’s still worth starting, but things won’t get any easier as he faces two powerful lineups sitting above Boston in the AL East standings.
- Jeffrey Springs‘ turn as Two-Start Streamer of the Week didn’t happen last week, so we’ll try again this week, albeit with a tougher set of matchups. Springs will likely be a favorite on many fantasy breakout articles once prep begins for 2025.
Questionable
- Adam Oller is likely to be a popular 15-team target given his matchups and what looks to be a particularly deceptive four-seamer. In 12-teamers, however, it might not be worth the risk. Oller’s supporting cast plus a lack of strong secondaries should have you more inclined to lean towards a strong one-start streamer if any are available.
- Brady Singer is a bench against the Yankees and easy start against the Pirates. In weekly leagues, it’s likely a lean towards starting unless there are strong options on your bench. Cade Povich, Charlie Morton and JP Sears are all one-start streamers and not suitable for weekly lineup leagues.
Avoid
Where would you slot in Dave Festa? LAA tonight, then CIN
Also Jeff Springs is currently on the IL
If this was updated 2 hours ago, why is Jeffrey Springs a recommended option?
Well this is certainly an article. Not too informative, but an article. Bello? Festa? Buehler? Detmers?
Also Arrighetti has starts on Tues (vs OAK) and Sun (at LAA). Pretty good matchups…
This is garbage – Springs AND Ray are both on the IL. Ray has been on the IL since last week and is not eligible to return until 9/15. Also…doesn’t this usually come out on Sat or Sun, which conveniently allows us weekly league guys to pick up players? Finally…missing about 5 two start guys, as most have mentioned. Not your best, PL.
Can’;t believe how useless this is…we are in the playoff season and you aren’t remotely updated on IL, rotations, changes….do better, why should we read this?
