Every morning we review the nastiest pitches from the previous day’s games in glorious HD GIFs. Don’t forget to vote for your favorite pitch and check back this weekend to see if it will be in contention for the GIF of the First Half Contest. Did we miss your favorite pitch? Chris Archer’s Slider – Archer had a wild night on the hill, allowing six earned runs and six walks. Still he fanned a good number of batters and his Slider was getting a boatload of depth. Just check out how far this pitch dropped at 90mph to Michael Brantley for a big strikeout in the second inning.

Luis Perdomo’s Fastball – In San Diego, Perdomo showed off his big Curveball and lively heater en route to nine strikeouts in six innings. His Fastball command is improving, spotting this 95mph pitch on the inside corner to freeze Nick Franklin.

Zack Wheeler’s Slider – With just one walk allowed against the Diamondbacks, Wheeler had one of his better starts of the season Monday evening. It started in a great way, fanning Reymond Fuentes with a well placed Slider right under the hands as the outfielder swung right over the pitch.

Cody Allen’s Curveball – Despite giving up a Home Run later in the inning, Allen was looking sharp as he closed the door on the Rays. His first out of the ninth came on his sharp breaking ball, with dropped a ton to dive out of the zone and miss Colby Rasmus‘ bat.

Sean Manaea’s Sliders – Manaea returned from the DL and proceeded to walk four batters in his first inning while showcasing plenty of swing-and-miss pitches. With the bases loaded, he used his nasty Sliders to get strikes two and three on weak flails from Taylor Motterboth starting in the middle of the plate before darting into the infielder’s ankles.

Brandon McCarthy’s Curveball – We all love a good deuce that buckles knees and McCarthy’s hook to Eduardo Nunez here fits the bill nicely. Do yourself a favor and watch Nunez’s lower half a few times as the GIF loops above.
