Injury Report: 8/26

Jeff Davis provides an update in today's edition of the Injury Report.

Hello and welcome to the Injury Report!

This roundup is a biweekly article, published on Mondays and Fridays, where I aim to detail approximately five relevant injuries that have occurred over the past few days or provide an update on the injury of a prominent MLB player. I will try to incorporate the available information as well as my own knowledge and experience to approximate a return date in each case, noting the individual characteristics of the injuries and of the players themselves.

David Peralta—AC Joint Inflammation

David Peralta has once again hit the IL as a result of AC joint inflammation in his right shoulder. This is his third IL stint for this injury this season. The first totaled 10 days, while the second lasted 19 days. It is fair to anticipate this injury to result in more than the minimum stint this time around.

Estimated return: mid-September.

Edwin Diaz—Right Trapezius Tightness

Edwin Diaz is battling some tightness in his right trapezius. This appears to be a minor injury and does not sound like it will end up in an IL stint. Continue to monitor, but expect Diaz to return to the mound around the end of this week.

Estimated return: end of this week.

Jose Ramirez—Right Hamate Fracture

Jose Ramirez will likely see his 2019 season come to an end as he undergoes an operation on his right hand. Ramirez likely fractured the hook of his hamate bone, which will require removal, shelving Ramirez for 4-8 weeks.

Estimated return: 2019 likely finished, should return without concern in 2020.

Anthony Rizzo—Back Tightness

Anthony Rizzo periodically misses time to back tightness, and this appears to be another of those incidents. He has a chance to return on Tuesday following Monday’s day off. Either way, this is not likely to result in an IL stint.

Estimated return: this week.

Andrew Benintendi—Left Oblique Soreness

Andrew Benintendi left Saturday’s game because of oblique soreness. For now, this appears to a be a minor concern, and Benintendi is considered day-to-day. Without a mechanism of injury, it is hard to estimate if an IL stint will be required. Focus on updates as they are available—he has a shot to return to the lineup on Tuesday.

Estimated return: this week.

Where does the recent update on Tommy La Stella place his return?
And do we anticipate a difficult return to form as a result of his injury?

    Thanks Jeff!
