Welcome to this week’s Injury Report! As the fantasy playoffs draw near, we will be shifting our focus away from deep-dive injury news. We will try to make sure all your injury worries are answered by a return date and worry-o-meter rating.
Willson Contreras – Knee Sprain
Willson Contreras is expected to go out on a short rehab assignment early this week. Expect a return soon.
Return Date: 5-7 days
Worry-o-meter: 1
Jesse Winker – Intercostal Strain
Jesse Winker has started throwing and is expected to begin swinging later this week.
Return Date: Early/Mid-September
Worry-o-meter: 6
Shane Bieber – Subscapularis Strain
Shane Bieber is planning on throwing another bullpen session this week, and is expected to throw a simulated game later this week.
Return Date: 3-4 weeks
Worry-o-meter: 6
Aaron Civale – Finger Sprain
Aaron Civale is expected to return this week. Start him with confidence.
Return Date: 5-7 days
Worry-o-meter: 2
Patrick Sandoval – Lumbar Stress Reaction
Patrick Sandoval will be shut down for the rest of the season. I’m not worried about Sandoval going into 2022.
Return Date: 2022 season
Worry-o-meter: 7
Mike Trout – Calf Strain
There are rumors that Mike Trout could be shut down for the rest of the season. This is not a surprise, but it is extremely disappointing.
Return Date: 2 weeks
Worry-o-meter: 7
Clayton Kershaw – Elbow Inflammation
Clayton Kershaw threw a simulated game Monday without any reports of issues. We will keep an eye on news out of LA, but this was a big step in his recovery.
Return Date: 2-3 weeks
Worry-o-meter: 4
Pablo Lopez – Shoulder Strain
Pablo Lopez has had his rehab assignment slowed down as a precaution. This will obviously delay his return.
Return Date: 2 weeks
Worry-o-meter: 3
Mitch Garver – Back Tightness
Mitch Garver will miss the next 10-14 days with lower back tightness. I’m not too worried about this moving forward.
Return Date: 10-14 days
Worry-o-meter: 1
Rhys Hoskins – Abdominal Surgery
Rhys Hoskins will miss the rest of 2021 after undergoing abdominal surgery. He should be ready for the 2022 season without any lingering issues.
Return Date: 2022 season
Worry-o-meter: 4
Jack Flaherty – Shoulder Strain
Jack Flaherty will more than likely miss the rest of the 2021 season with a shoulder strain. The good news is that the second opinion revealed no structural damage, so Flaherty should be good to go for the 2022 season.
Return Date: 2022 season
Worry-o-meter: 5
