Minor League Hitter Grades: The Best Bats in the Minors Right Now

Minor league breakout bats dynasty managers need to stash now

With the season approaching the halfway point, several hitters across Double-A and Triple-A are beginning to separate themselves with impressive offensive performances. Whether it’s former top prospects rediscovering their swing, recent draft picks accelerating through the minor leagues, or under-the-radar names forcing their way into the conversation, these hitters are putting together stretches that dynasty managers should be paying close attention to. This week’s roundup highlights a mix of established prospects and emerging bats who could be positioning themselves for a promotion to the major leagues in the near future.

Joshua Baez, OF- St. Louis Cardinals

Joshua Baez returns to this list after putting together one of the most impressive power displays in professional baseball this month. On June 16, the Cardinals outfield prospect erupted for four home runs and seven RBI in a single game, highlighting what has been an outstanding June. Baez is hitting .348 during the month with nine home runs, raising his season total to 25 long balls. The former second-round pick has always been known for his elite raw power, and he is finally beginning to translate those tools into consistent game production at the Triple-A level.

The underlying metrics continue to paint the picture of a legitimate middle-of-the-order power bat. Baez owns a 92.7 MPH average exit velocity and has recorded a max exit velocity of 114.1 MPH this season, showcasing the type of impact contact that few hitters in the minor leagues can match. His combination of raw strength and gap-to-gap power gives him the ability to change a game with one swing, making him one of the more intriguing power prospects in the Cardinals’ system.

The biggest question surrounding Baez remains his swing-and-miss tendencies. He currently carries a 29.9% strikeout rate, which will need to come down if he hopes to become an everyday major leaguer. From a dynasty fantasy perspective, however, managers can live with the elevated strikeout rate because of the premium power upside. If Baez continues producing at this level, his home run potential could make him a valuable fantasy asset despite the contact concerns, and he should put himself firmly in the conversation for a major league opportunity later this season.

Ryan Galanie, 1B- Chicago White Sox

Ryan Galanie may not carry the prospect pedigree of many players featured in previous articles, but the 26-year-old first baseman is putting together a season that dynasty managers should not ignore. A 13th-round selection by the White Sox in the 2023 MLB Draft, Galanie earned a promotion from Double-A to Triple-A this season and has continued to produce against more advanced competition. Across both levels, he is slashing .263/.356/.526 with an .882 OPS and 11 home runs, showing there is legitimate power in his bat. After a slow start to Triple-A, where he hit just .196 during the month of May, Galanie has caught fire in June, batting .373 with a sparkling 1.153 OPS.

One encouraging sign is that Galanie has handled both left-handed and right-handed pitching well this season, demonstrating that he is more than just a platoon option. While the power production has been impressive, the underlying batted-ball data suggests there is still room for growth. Unlike Baez, whose elite exit velocities point to premium raw power, Galanie has posted a more modest 85.2 MPH average exit velocity with a 29.4% hard-hit rate. Continuing to make more authoritative contact will be key if he hopes to sustain his offensive breakout against upper-level pitching.

Although Galanie is older than many of the prospects typically highlighted and lacks the draft pedigree of a top prospect, his recent production deserves attention. His scorching June has shown there may be another level to his offensive game, and if he can continue making adjustments while maintaining his power production, he could force his way into the White Sox’s plans. Dynasty managers should keep a close eye on his performance over the remainder of the season to see if this breakout is the beginning of something more.

Seaver King, SS- Washington Nationals

Seaver King, the Nationals’ first-round pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, has quickly established himself as one of the organization’s fastest-rising prospects. Known primarily for his speed after stealing 30 bases in 2025, King has taken another step forward offensively this season. After dominating Double-A with a .336 batting average, he earned a promotion to Triple-A and has continued to produce. Across both levels, King is slashing .316/.389/.533 with a .922 OPS and 142 wRC+ while adding 10 home runs, demonstrating that his offensive profile has become much more complete.

One of the most encouraging aspects of King’s breakout has been his consistency regardless of the matchup. He is hitting over .300 against both right-handed and left-handed pitching this season, showing that his offensive approach should not be limited by platoon splits when he reaches the major leagues. While there is still room for refinement, particularly after posting just a 3.6% walk rate since arriving in Triple-A, that is a relatively common adjustment for hitters facing more advanced pitching for the first time. As he gains experience at the level, his plate discipline should continue to improve.

Theo Gillen, OF- Tampa Bay Rays

Theo Gillen, the Rays’ 18th overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, continues to establish himself as one of the most exciting young hitters in the minor leagues. The 20-year-old outfielder possesses a tantalizing blend that dynasty managers look for in a top prospect, led by his elite speed. Gillen has already stolen 28 bases this season, but it is his offensive development that has elevated his prospect stock. Across the season, he is slashing .342/.449/.589 with a 1.038 OPS, emerging as one of the top performers in the minor leagues.

Gillen’s advanced approach at the plate has been just as impressive as his overall offensive profile. He owns a 14.2% walk rate, demonstrating a mature understanding of the strike zone and a willingness to work deep counts. His batted-ball profile also suggests his production is sustainable, as he carries an even 37.3% pull rate and 37.3% opposite-field rate, allowing him to drive the baseball with authority to all fields. That all-fields approach, combined with his improving power, gives him one of the more well-rounded offensive profiles in the Rays’ system.

While Gillen has been outstanding throughout the entire season, he has taken his game to another level in June, slashing .406/.523/.580 with a 1.103 OPS. His combination of plus hit, emerging power, and elite speed has him knocking on the door of a promotion to the upper minors. Dynasty managers should be following Gillen closely throughout his development, as he has the upside to develop into a true five-category fantasy contributor with legitimate 25-home run, 25-stolen base potential while hitting for a high average.
