Today’s Headlines and Moments
Phillies Clinch First Division Title Since 2011
With champagne-soaked shirts and cigar smoke abound, the Phillies celebrated a big National League East win on Monday, their first in 13 seasons! They secured the title with a 6-2 win over the Cubs and have held the lead in the east since early May.

The players took to the field after Carlos Estévez retired the final Cubs hitter with the crowd going wild behind them. The Phillies players, when interviewed, were most notably excited to have earned the bye in the playoffs. Dispelling any credibility to the argument that players might not want the rest.

Tigers Call Up Top Pitching Prospect, Jackson Jobe
Firmly in the hunt for one of the final two American League Wild Card spots, the surprising Detroit Tigers are calling up Jackson Jobe, signaling aggressiveness at the end of the season as they attempt to secure a postseason berth.

Jobe is the 6th ranked prospect on MLB.com and one of the most exciting young arms in the game, adding him will continue Detroit’s impressive run of pitching in the last few weeks which has vaulted them into this position. With AL Cy Young favorite Tarik Skubal as the first starter in any playoff series, the Tigers would have to feel pretty good in the Wild Card against whichever team they might end up facing.
Detroit is in a good position, currently holding a Wild Card spot and facing the Rays and White Sox to close out the year. They will be an exciting wild card of a postseason team and a challenge for any roster that might cross their path!
Oakland A’s Owner Pens Letter To Fans
With the final week of the Oakland Athletics being in Oakland, the much-debated departure of the team from the Oakland Coliseum and its nearly 60-year home in California has brought plenty of ire from local fans.
The team will begin their move to Las Vegas this off-season after many years of being towards the bottom of the American League West standings. There is still some hope, the Athletics have promising young talent like Brent Rooker helping to make them one of the better offenses in the second half of the season. The biggest issue is does the heartbreak of the move now make it too tough to root for the new-home A’s for fans of today. You can check out the letter below.

Rockies Legend Charlie Blackmon To Retire
It is not often in today’s professional sports landscape that you see a player spend their entire career with a single team, but Charlie Blackmon did just that with the Colorado Rockies. The Coors Field lifer announced on Monday that this would be his final season in professional baseball and thanked the organization via his Instagram.
Blackmon is second in Rockies history in games played (1,618), runs scored (991), hits (1,797), doubles (333), and total bases (2,942), with Todd Helton holding the number one spot in the majority of Rockies all-time statistics.
Injuries and Other Moves
⚾ Kenley Jansen was put on the IL with shoulder soreness, effectively ending his season.
⚾ Yordan Alvarez will miss the full series against the Mariners with a knee sprain, but does not require an IL stint.
