The good thing about behind-the-scenes sports documentaries is it provides a little more of a human element to the athletes we watch work every day. Sometimes, athletes share something extremely personal that trolls seize upon. That appears to be the case regarding Sunday’s incident involving Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran and a fan at Progressive Field, home of the Cleveland Guardians. Duran flied out in the seventh inning, and as he was trotting back to the dugout, a fan yelled something at him. Once Duran returned to the dugout, he stood on the top step and stared down, and then confronted the fan, who was sitting near the team’s dugout. Duran said the fan brought up a moment from the Netflix documentary where Duran said he had attempted suicide a few years ago while battling severe depression. The Guardians issued a statement following the game, saying the person had been identified and was being dealt with.

Today’s Headlines
Nats Erase 6-Run Deficit, Topple Mets
The New York Mets were riding high, winners of seven straight following a sweep of the Philadelphia Phillies that gave them the best record in MLB, when they hit the road to face the Washington Nationals. Things unraveled this weekend. After their winning streak was snapped in the opener of the three-game series, they blew a 7-1 lead to drop the finale 8-7. CJ Abrams drove in the tying run and scored the winner on Mets first baseman Pete Alonso’s throwing error on Luis García Jr.’s grounder with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning. Having been down 7-1 in the fifth, the Nationals put themselves in position for the dramatic finish by scoring five in the seventh inning, capped by Riley Adams‘ three-run homer. The Mets still have MLB’s best record at 19-9.
Skubal Keeps O’s Spiraling
What do you get when you combine a hot pitcher with a cold team? Exactly what transpired at Comerica Park between the Detroit Tigers and Baltimore Orioles. Reigning AL Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal allowed four hits over six shutout innings as the Tigers blanked the struggling Orioles 7-0 to complete a three-game sweep. While the Tigers improved to an AL-best 18-10, the O’s lost for the seventh time in nine games, falling to 10-17, last in the AL East. Skubal did not issue a walk while striking out 11. The Orioles return to Camden Yards to face the New York Yankees and Kansas City Royals in a six-game homestand.
Pfaadt, Carroll Spark D’backs
If you had Arizona Diamondbacks right-handed starter Brandon Pfaadt as the first player in MLB this season to reach five wins, congratulations! Pfaadt turned in a bulldog effort as the D’backs completed a grueling week with a 6-4 win over Atlanta. Pfaadt scattered nine hits over six-plus innings, allowing three runs (two earned), while walking one and striking out six to improve to 5-1. The performance was needed following four extra-inning games in a seven-game span. Corbin Carroll fueled the Arizona offense with a pair of sizzling triples, going home to first in 11.02 seconds, then 10.87, the two fastest times in MLB this season.
Another Early Exit For Glasnow
Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Tyler Glasnow, who made his scheduled start after leaving his last outing with leg cramps, left the game against the Pittsburgh Pirates while warming up before the second inning with shoulder discomfort. Glasnow was tagged for back-to-back homers in the top of the first inning of what would be a 9-2 Dodgers win over the Pirates. While more testing awaits, it would seem a stint on the 15-day injured list is likely. It comes at a time when the Dodgers are expecting right-hander Tony Gonsolin to rejoin the rotation Wednesday, but with a TBA slated for Tuesday.
Best Moments From Yesterday
Sunday Funny
Ever see a walk-off leading off the bottom of the ninth inning with an exit velocity of 58.7 mph, a launch angle of minus-66 degrees, and a hit distance of 2 feet? Thanks to Heliot Ramos of the San Francisco Giants, and some shoddy fielding by the Texas Rangers, now you have. The Giants won 3-2. Rangers reliever Luke Jackson, who started this off, had a great description of the game-ending events.
"The Giants win the game on a Little League home run. Tell me you've seen that one before.""Well, not since my oldest son was 10 years old."Duane Kuiper and Mike Krukow react to the Giants beating the Rangers on a Little League home run from Heliot Ramos.

Gausman’s Bad Day
Toronto Blue Jays right-handed starter Kevin Gausman had a nightmarish third inning in the opener of a doubleheader against the New York Yankees. Gausman threw a whopping 53 pitches before manager John Schneider came out to remove him after surrendering six runs in 2.2 innings. He had some choice words for home plate umpire Chris Conroy and was ejected from a game he was no longer in. Schneider continued to boil before getting tossed by Conroy in the fifth inning of an 11-2 loss.
Seeds Of Happiness
Home run celebrations have taken on a life of their own. But this one between Dodgers teammates Teoscar Hernández and Andy Pages looks a little personal (in a good way).

Injuries and Other Moves
⚾ Struggling New York Yankees right-hander Devin Williams will not be closing games for the time being. Right-hander Luke Weaver will take over as the closer. Williams has allowed 12 runs in eight innings this season.
⚾ Veteran left-handed reliever Jesse Chavez, 41, was designated for assignment by Atlanta. It is the third time this season Chavez has been DFA’d, twice by Atlanta and once by the Texas Rangers. Right-hander Davis Daniel was called up from Triple-A. Also, right-hander Ian Anderson was claimed off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels.
⚾ Houston Astros right-handed reliever Forrest Whitley went on the 15-day injured list with a sprained left knee. Right-handed reliever Kaleb Ort (strained oblique) was activated from the IL.
