Today’s Headlines
First Place Race
The Rays are now just a game back from the first-place Orioles in a tight American League East race. With a tie-breaking homer in the seventh, and the bullpen extending their 34-inning stretch of not allowing a single run, the Rays are hoping to oust the O’s and regain first place once again.

Bloom Out
Chaim Bloom was fired from his position of chief baseball officer Thursday. Bloom held the position with the Red Sox for four years, hired in 2019. The team made the postseason just once in those four years, advancing to the ALCS in 2021, but losing to the Astros.
On a personal level, Chaim Bloom was respectful of the job the media had. He was probably the most accessible of the four baseball ops leaders in my 22 years covering the Sox. In a position that can allow people to get thin skinned, I didn't sense Bloom ever got that way.

Hendriks Has No Regrets
Liam Hendriks knowingly pitched this season with a torn UCL, prior to his rehab assignment. Hendriks knew the pain he was dealing with was different, but he doesn’t regret coming back for the season. Hendriks claimed he has not felt pain while pitching since at least May of this year.
Liam Hendriks reveals that he knowingly pitched for the White Sox this season with a torn UCL, which he says happened BEFORE his rehab assignment.

Rookie Needs TJ Surgery
Yankees’ outfielder Jasson Domínguez will undergo Tommy John surgery next week and will miss 9-10 months, per Aaron Boone. The 20-year-old made his debut on September 1 before being diagnosed with a torn UCL. The rookie ended his season with a .980 OPS, four home runs, and seven RBIs in 31 at-bats.
A clarification from the Yankees re: Jasson Dominguez — it is possible that the surgeon could use internal bracing during the Tommy John procedure, but even if so, it will not change the 9-10 month estimate.
