New Pitcher List Website Updates!

We've made improvements to the Pitcher List website.

We’ve been working hard to make improvements to the Pitcher List website and while many of them have been behind the scenes (such as our new tablemaker), there are some currently live on the site now that we wanted to share with you.

SP Roundup Archive

Since I started writing the SP Roundup in 2014, I’ve always wanted a way for me to read all the terrible blurbs I’ve written about a single pitcher without playing the game of guessing which days they were featured inside the article.

It took some surprisingly tricky coding and we made it happen. You can find the SP Roundup blurb for any given start now inside that starter’s player page. For example, here’s Sandy Alcántara’s page:

Go to their player page, head to the game log, and click on any row to see the start’s expanded details, which now include the SP Roundup blurb I wrote for that start. You can also click the “All+” in the top left to expand all starts and read quickly on the fly.

SP Awards

Nearly a year ago, staffer Ben Brown mentioned it would be fun to head to a player page and see the Gallows PoleKing Cole, and Golden Goal awards displayed proudly on their player page.

We thought so too and have implemented these awards on all player pages. Here’s Jacob deGrom’s page as an example:

Each award has a number badge if they’ve won the award at least twice. Hover over the icons to see the date(s) when they won the award – keep in mind, a Golden Goal means they also won the other two awards as well.

We also added the awards to the SP Roundup archive so you can quickly see their achievements as you research previous outings.

Staff Masthead

It’s about time we had a masthead. We have dozens and dozens of incredible people working with us here at Pitcher List and I’ve wanted to create a page to showcase everyone on staff for a long time. You can find the Masthead in the top navigation menu from any page on the site:

As you’ll see, we have more than just writers on staff, including graphic designers, website and database developers, editors, and community managers.

And of course, if you’d like to be a part of what we do, take a look at our open positions here.

What’s Ahead

There are many more updates coming for PL7 when it launches in February and we’re looking forward to sharing those with our PL+ community later this year to test and give feedback before opening it to the public.

We’re continuing to make improvements across the site and we’d love to know what you’d like to see added to the Pitcher List website in the future.

Seems like this site no longer works w/ my NoSquint Plus add-on now, which is sad. It’s weird though, this is very recent. It worked w/ the SP Roundup and awards changes, at least, not sure about masthead. The issue just started in the last day or two.

Awesome stuff Nick. Thanks for continuing to push the site forward while maintaining a focus on high quality content.

This is great — love your website, love the content. Keep pumpin out the great info… it’s helped me get numerous champ titles, and I’m hungry for more

One thing I would like to see is the teams to be updated. For example, the Nationals’ team has Howie Kendrick, Fernando Rodney and Anibal Sanchez listed as players. I have goten into baseball recently, and this site has helped a lot. Thanks!

The SP roundup archive is very cool! I did try clicking the SP roundup tag next to the blurb itself thinking it would link to the respective article itself. I know you said this took some fancy coding to get the foundation down, but would you agree that would make sense to hyperlink over as well?

For PL7, do you guys plan to release mobile optimized player pages potentially. I know you originally debuted them for PL6 but seems you guys took a step back to work on them first which is totally cool but was curious if you hope we may see them down the line/no rush

Lastly, being able to fully see the full row of a player for The List on mobile (since scrolling horizontally to see the deltas are inaccessible unless you keep rotating back and forth to landscape) are you hopeful for that to be a PL6 fix or are we most likely looking at PL7/next baseball season?
