Today’s Headlines

Giants Pay Tribute To Willie Mays, All Wear 24

In their first game back at Oracle Park since the passing of all-time great, Willie Mays, the San Fransisco Giants had all players and team personnel in tribute jerseys adorned with the number 24.

Was the ‘Say Hey Kid’ watching over his former team? You might think so, as the Giants rallied late in the ninth inning to come back from a 4-to-2 deficit and, literally, walk it off against the Cubs, who are still dealing with serious bullpen woes.

Phillies Turn Historic Triple Play

There’s a reason you don’t see a 1-3-5 triple play much, because it required a fundamental lapse in base running. You kinda need to tag up… which maybe makes this less historically significant and more so historically embarrassing for Detroit. Baseball!

JRAM ties MRAM

Okay, yes, we don’t really call Manny Ramirez, “MRAM,” but any time you see one of the most fun players of the 2000’s brought up, you know something great has probably happened. Such was the case in Cleveland last night, as José Ramírez tied Manny for third all-time in home runs for the franchise at 236.

The homer proved to be the difference, as the Guardians beat the Orioles by a score of three to two. Cleveland currently holds the best record by win percent in the American League.

Ragans Stops The Royals Skid

What a beautiful evening for the Kansas City ace, who shut down the Miami Marlins after the Royals were swept by the Texas Rangers. Ragans struck out 11 Marlins and was able to limit the damage to just one run. His stuff was electric and he recorded a career-high 26 whiffs.

He’ll look to keep it going on the road against the Guardians on Saturday, a bit of a tougher test…

Best Moments From Yesterday

Vladdy’s (Over The) Monster Home Run

Despite the video of this insane blast starting after the pitch was thrown, you just gotta watch this one a few times. The ball basically disappears into the night. 471 feet was the final estimation for the longest shot of the night.

Someone even found where it landed! Whattashot!

Cruz Missle Sinks Ship

111.5 MPH of the bat with a height of 130ft? That’s a big fly to center! ELDC continues to do amazing things and is one of the most fun players to watch on a nightly basis. Did I mention he hit the boat? A great call here as well.

Fan Catch Of The Year

Get this guy on the cricket pitch! Am I even allowed to discuss that sport here? (They don’t use mitts, for those who may not know.) But wow, this has got to be up there as one of the most impressive fan grabs of all time, right? Gotta think even big leaguers would be impressed with this one.

Came right at him, he barely moved, drink and phone in the other hand? Insane. I love that they got a reporter up there real quick to talk to him, too.

Injuries and Other Moves

âš¾ Edwin Diaz (foreign substance) was officially handed his 10-day suspension after Sunday’s ejection. He can appeal.

âš¾ Fernando Tatis Jr. (femur stress) was placed on the 10-day IL after imaging results. The Padres star has been playing through the injury but recent imaging results have prompted him to say, “it’s going to be some time,” with a goal of the All-Star Break.

âš¾ Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) experienced a setback in rehab, will be shut down to deal with soreness.

âš¾ Patrick Sandoval (elbow) to undergo Tommy John surgery.

âš¾ Bryan Woo (hamstring) was removed from his start on Monday, he will undergo imaging to assess the severity.

⚾ Willson Contreras (fractured forearm) who has been out since May 7th, was activated.
