A Review of Key Bullpen and Reliever Usage from Yesterday's Games

Welcome to the RP Roundup, my daily fantasy baseball article reviewing every reliever performance from the previous day.

TOR 3 – BAL 4

Brendan Cellucci now has an 8/2 K/BB ratio over 5.1 IP since being called up, and he finally allowed his first hit, a triple to Gunnar here on a ball that was hit well but could (should?) have been caught. It was a bad pitch regardless (0-1 middle-middle fastball), but anyway, that sweeper is just so so good.

Baltimore Orioles

Rico Garcia got back on track here with a clean save, and it’s cool seeing him go from an interesting arm to keep an eye on this winter to grabbing double-digit saves. I doubt he gets to that mark again next year, but then again, both Bautista (and Helsley if he sticks around) are injury concerns.

WSN 2 – DET 9

Washington Nationals

Josiah Gray	2.0 IP	0 ER	2 H	0 BB	1 K	2 Whiffs	28% CSW

Luis Perales — Four-Seamer down 1.4 MPH (97.7 vs. 99.1 season avg). Ooooof.
Josiah Gray — Four-Seamer down 1.3 MPH (90.9 vs. 92.2 season avg). He can still spin it, but not sure the fastball will cut it.

Detroit Tigers
Drew Sommers	1.0 IP	2 ER	2 H	0 BB	2 K	3 Whiffs	56% CSW
Beau Brieske	1.0 IP	0 ER	0 H	0 BB	1 K	0 Whiffs	33% CSW

Beau Brieske — Four-Seamer up 0.9 MPH (96.4 vs. 95.5 season avg). Probably the best his fastball has looked this season. They could really use him for 2027, so hopefully he’s getting back on track here.

MIN 2 – SFG 5

Minnesota Twins
Taylor Rogers	1.1 IP	0 ER	1 H	0 BB	1 K	3 Whiffs	28% CSW
Travis Adams	1.2 IP	0 ER	1 H	0 BB	3 K	6 Whiffs	50% CSW

Travis Adams’s fastball looked great here, and he played it well off the changeup. Could be something here, but he’s also one of 2-3 relievers in this bullpen who could get a look in the rotation next year as well.

Tristan Beck — Four-Seamer up 1.0 MPH (95.6 vs. 94.6 season avg); Four-Seamer usage 69% (+30 pts vs. 39% usual)
Sam Hentges — Sinker up 1.3 MPH (95.3 vs. 94.0 season avg)
Jason Foley — Sinker down 1.0 MPH (94.6 vs. 95.6 season avg)
Trent Harris has been pitching better than Dylan Smith lately, so I’d imagine he finishes out the season in the closer role, but if he enters 2027 as the closer, something has gone terribly wrong (once again) for the Giants this offseason.
