Today’s Headlines
Standings Check In
There are less than two full weeks remaining in the MLB regular season. Here’s how things stand after last night’s action:
American League
AL East: NY leads BAL by three games, neither played yesterday, both play today.
AL Cent: Cleveland won and Kansas City lost, Guardians are up to a five-game lead.
AL West: Seattle was off but Houston lost last night to the Padres, they’re still four games back
AL Wild Card: The wild card picture saw the current 3rd WC, Minnesota, lose to Cleveland last night. Seattle didn’t play, but they’re now just two games behind the Twins, Detroit won and so they gained a full game, moving to just 1.5 games back and well within striking distance.
Tuesday AL Viewing Guide: Today’s game that matter most for the American League!
NYY SEA – Luis Gil vs Bryan Woo to start a consequential series for both sides, this is the start of a fun series that will have its results felt across the entire American League playoff picture.
MIN CLE – Cleveland tries to catch NY for best record, Twins look to stave off the Tigers and Mariners. Every game in this series has big implications!
DET KC – Two Wild Card hopefuls and Detroit took game one, can the Royals bounce back behind Cole Ragans to keep their position in the Wild Card secure?
National Leauge
NL West: The other two divisions are all but clinched, the Dodgers lead the Padres by 3.5 games, and both won last night.
NL Wild Card: After the Rockies walked off the Diamondbacks and New York walked off the Nationals, just two games separate the Diamondbacks (83-67), the Mets (82-68), and Atlanta (81-69) as the three jockey for the final two Wild Card spots. The next team is Chicago who is another four games back and San Diego who sits 2.5 games ahead of Arizona for the first Wild Card.
Tuesday NL Viewing Guide: Today’s game that matter most for the National League!
ATL CIN – Atlanta is on the outside looking in after going 5-5 in their last 10 games, can they turn it around in a road series?
WSH NYM – The Mets walked off the Nationals last night to keep the good run going, they need every win against a weaker Washington squad.
PHI MIL – Both these teams lead their divisions handsomely, but only three games separate the top teams in the National League. If the Brewers can win this series they could move towards a better seed and maybe a bye…
ARI COL – Arizona needs to stay sharp in a winnable road series, how Jordan Montgomery will look at Coors Field in a return to the rotation, is the main concern
Luis Arraez’s K-less streak ends
Five weeks, 141 plate appearances, is how long between strikeouts the Padres infielder was able to go. With contact skills that rival the all-time greats, Arraez was finally taken down on Monday night by Astros rookie Spencer Arrighetti. It was the ninth pitch of the at-bat, and he swung and missed on a 78 MPH curveball.
The streak ties Tony Gwynn, a career Padre, for the fifth longest of all time. Gwynn also holds the longest streak of 170 plate appearances without a strikeout. Arraez was shaken up on a play at the plate and removed from the game, but not before adding a double to his stat line.
Best Moments From Yesterday
Starling Marte Walks Off Nats in 10th
After having a chance to drive in the game-tying run in the 8th, Marte drove in the winner in the 10th with a man on third. With every game looming large, the Mets can’t drop a home series opener to the Nationals, so Marte’s contributions were much celebrated.

Rocks walk off Snakes on Error
Second baseman Geraldo Perdomo missed a throw to first which allowed the game-winning run to score from second with one out in the bottom of the ninth. The best part is that this is a post from the Sports Net New York account celebrating how it helps the Mets. Playoff races are the best!
