Corbin Burnes struggles

Corbin Burnes didn’t have it from the get-go and allowed six earned runs in the first inning. By the time his night was over after five innings, he had allowed a career-high seven earned runs and a career-low three strikeouts; The six swinging strikes he recorded last night were the third-fewest he had totaled in any of his 90 career starts. He also allowed a massive home run to Alek Thomas in his first game back from the minors.

Henry Davis debuts for the Pirates

The first overall pick of the 2021 draft out of Louisville, Henry Davis debuted last night and started in right field hitting seventh. The Pirates were on the wrong end of an 8-0 blowout to their NL Central rivals but the 23-year-old at least got an important milestone under his belt.

Mad Max is masterful

Max Scherzer bounced back in a big way and tossed eight innings with eight punchouts in a surprising 11-1 blowout win over the Astros. The Mets entered last night amidst a brutal stretch with a 4-11 record so far this month.

All Arráez

Luis Arráez went 5-for-5 in the Marlins’ 11-0 rout of the Blue Jays. Earlier this week, he had gone hitless in three consecutive games, lowering his average to .378. But after five hits this past Friday, he did it again yesterday, and now, well, he’s back to doing the unthinkable.
