Brady Singer was nearly perfect

Stay updated on everything baseball with our morning MLB News & Moments articles. We’ve got you covered to keep you in the know.

Today’s Headlines

Brady Singer

He didn’t get the win but Singer pitched brilliantly again. A walk to Cade Marlowe in the fifth broke up Singer’s bid for a perfecto. Cade Marlowe broke up the no-hit bid in the seventh. Three years ago, Singer came four outs shy of recording the club’s first no-hitter since 1991.

Max Scherzer dominates the Angels

Scherzer blanked the Angels across seven innings while piling up 11 strikeouts. He’s now 3-0 with a 1.80 ERA through his first three games with the Rangers, who have now pulled ahead with a three-and-a-half-game lead over the Houston Astros atop the AL West. Meanwhile, the Angels have now fallen two games under .500 and are seven games behind the Blue Jays for the third AL Wild Card.

Grayson Rodriguez

The Padres had no answer for Grayson Rodriguez and his octane fastball last night. The Orioles’ top pitching prospect turned in the best performance of his career holding Juan Soto and company to just one run over seven innings. With the 4-1 win over the Padres, the Orioles have now surged to season-best 29 games over .500

The Giants call up Wade Meckler

Wade Maeckler, an outfielder, began the season in High-A and raced through the minor leagues. He slashed .400/ .545/ .600 in ten games with Triple-A Sacramento before the team called him up. He’s just the fourth member of the 2022 draft to reach the majors.

Atlanta pastes the Yankees

Max Fried pitched well holding the Yankees to just two earned runs over six innings. Clarke Schmidt, a native of Acworth, Georgia, not far from Truist Field, was not as fortunate and allowed a season-high eight earned runs on nine hits. Nicky Lopez, meanwhile, continued his hot start with his new team. The dichotomy between these two teams could not be more stark.

Best Moments from Yesterday

Don’t blink, or you’ll miss it

Seattle right fielder Dominic Canzone lost the ball in the lights and that was all Bobby Witt Jr. needed. Well, that and 14.3 seconds for the first inside-the-park home run of his MLB career. Witt’s first home run in Triple-A back in July 2021 was also an inside-the-park special.

Don’t come in last

San Francisco Giants broadcaster Dave Flemming earned something special for his performance in the team’s fantasy football league.

The Royals walk it off

After bunting in two runs during their series against the Phillies, Royals outfielder Dairon Blanco did some more bunting last night and this time, it won the game.

Back-to-back-to-back

Jorge Soler started the Marlins’ home run barrage in the eighth by reenacting his WS home run off Framber Valdez. Luis Arraez followed suit. And then Josh Bell hit one out, his fifth with the fish.

Injuries and Transactions

The Orioles reinstated OF Aaron Hicks from the IL and optioned Colton Cowser

Atlanta placed Ozzie Albies on the IL with a hamstring strain.

Ryan Amore

A proprietor of the Ketel Marte Fan Club, Ryan Amore has been writing things at Pitcher List since 2019. He grew up watching the Yankees and fondly remembers Charlie Hayes catching the final out of the '96 WS. He appreciates walks but only of the base on ball variety.
