Nastiest Pitches: All-Star Edition!

Every morning, the We Love Baseball crew reviews the Nastiest Pitches from the previous day’s games in glorious high-definition GIFs. We want to bring you the highest caliber of nastiness possible, so if you see a nasty pitch, please tell us about it. You can tweet @PitcherList to let us know, and we’ll give you a shout-out here in the article if your tip makes the cut.

As a bonus for PL+ members, let us know about a pitch on the PL+ Discord in the Nasty Pitches Channel, and if your suggestion is included the next day, you’ll be entered into a weekly drawing for a free T-shirt!

Shohei Ohtani’s Slider

Shohei Ohtani got the start for the AL in Tuesday’s All-Star Game in addition to leadoff duties on the offensive end. He picked up strike two on Fernando Tatis Jr. here with a nasty slider.

German Marquez’s Slider

German Marquez took the mound in his home stadium as the righty was tasked with fourth inning duties. His sharp slider got a big whiff from Marcus Semien for strike two.

Taijuan Walker’s Slider

Taijuan Walker was tagged for a home run by Mike Zunino but did get one of the top hitters in the American League to go down swinging the at-bat prior. Whit Merrifield swung through a well-placed slider at the bottom of the zone for the second out of the inning.

Freddy Peralta’s Slider

Freddy Peralta was a late addition to the All-Star squad but was more than deserving of the honor. He struck out the side in the seventh and got a big whiff from the Rangers’ Adolis Garcia.

Mark Melancon’s Knuckle-Curve

Padres’ closer Mark Melancon was brought in for the eighth inning and promptly struck out Bo Bichette on three straight pitches. Melancon threw his big knuckle-curve to get Bichette to flail at a breaking ball well below the zone.

Liam Hendriks‘ Slider

Australian Liam Hendriks was called upon for the save Tuesday, and though he did give up a couple hits, he closed the door on the National League without allowing a run. His lone strikeout came on a slider way out of the zone as Chris Taylor was forced to chase.
