Notes

– The injury bug struck a lot of pitchers this week. Danny Salazar, Julio Teheran, Bud Norris, Aaron Nolaand Lance McCullers were all sent to the DL while Joe Ross had a setback, causing major falls.

– The biggest changes overall came from the 20s and 30s, which saw many upside plays have a larger sample size and continue to dominate, while others are doing little to help their elevated status. One example is the rise of Dylan Bundy whose biggest issue was Fastball command and has displayed precision in his last few starts. His overall stuff is fantastic and I expect him to stick around in the rotation through season’s end.

– Another is Joe Musgrove who took the place of injured Lance McCullers over the weekend. There are still some question marks about the kid, though his ability thus far to avoid hard contact with his Fastball is a major plus.

– The Cardinals rotation has been struggling against weaker teams, with Carlos Martinez, Adam Wainwrightand Mike Leake dropping slots this week as a result.

– The 50s is where it starts to fall from solid additions to flier country, with Luis Severino and David Phelps being the most intriguing. Severino is slated to return to the Yankee rotation against the Red Sox on Tuesday, and while that is an obvious bench, he has looked much improved in the bullpen from his 1st half self. Meanwhile, Phelps has been given the call to enter the Marlins’ rotation since dominating in relief. He looked great in Colorado and can be a sneaky impact starter ROS.

– Brandon McCarthy takes a tumble as he has personally expressed how uncomfortable he has been on the mound as of late. It could return to him with a bullpen session or two, but for the time being you should be putting on the brakes.

– Ivan Nova was throwing more inside Fastballs with his two-seamer in his first stint with the Pirates and it could lead to effectiveness at the back-end of a 12 deep 12-team league.

– Jeff Samardzija and Andrew Cashner have both been widely ineffective and should not be rostered at this time, leaving The List.
