Fantasy Baseball Daily Hitting Recap: 8/3/25

Breaking down notable hitting performances from yesterday’s games.

Tu for the Brice of One

Brice Turang (MIL): 2-6, 2 HR, 2 R, 4 RBI.

The Milwaukee Brewers crushed the Washington Nationals on Sunday, and Brice Turang was a big part of the beatdown, hitting both a second-inning and a seventh-inning home run, for a final line of 2-6, 2 HR, 2 R, 4 RBI. The 25-year-old is now up to a career-best eight home runs in his third MLB season, slashing .276/.342/.386.

Turang was drafted for his speed, stealing 26 bases in his 2023 rookie season and a whopping 50 in 2024, good for third in the league behind Elly de la Cruz’s 67 and Shohei Ohtani’s 59. This year, however, the stolen bases have taken a dip, with his current 19 stolen bases tied for 18th in the league. Ironically, while his speed has dipped from 94th percentile to 89th percentile, his power is on the rise, with Turang on pace for double-digit homers after hitting six and seven respectively in his first two seasons. In 2023, Turang had a 27% HardHit rate (fourth percentile). In 2024, he had a 29.7% HardHit rate (ninth percentile). In 2025? It jumped to 45.1% (61st percentile).

The Brewers might be happy about the power surge, but the new Turang is actually less fantasy relevant than his 2024 counterpart. The extra home runs are not nearly enough to push him ahead of his 2B peers (he is tied for 20th in HR among 2B in 2025). Stolen bases were his fantasy power, and his drop in SB is making him pretty pedestrian. 88% rostered in Yahoo seems a tad high for Turang.

Let’s see how the other hitters did Sunday:

Spencer Horwitz (PIT): 3-5, 2B, 2 HR, 3 R, 6 RBI.

Spencer Horwitz had a day in Denver, crushing two homers and collecting six RBI. The Coors Field air does wonders for hitters, but Horwitz is actually having a decent stretch of games after missing most of the first half while on the IL. He’s hitting .346 with 15 RBI in his last 15 games, and the Pirates’ leadoff man, rostered in only four percent of Yahoo leagues, might be a better MI option than the 88% owned Turang.

Eli White (ATL): 2-4, 2 HR, 2 R, 4 RBI.

White crushed two home runs in the speedway-turned-ballpark at Bristol. Although the stats for this game are technically from Saturday, due to the game being suspended for rain, he did hit those homers for the Braves on Sunday. He likely didn’t hit those homers for any fantasy squad, nor should he. He will be getting more playing time in the eight-hole with Ronald Acuña Jr. on the IL.

Rafael Devers (SFG): 3-4, HR, 2 R, 4 RBI, BB.

One would think that Devers continues to do Devers things, whether in Boston or San Francisco, when looking at his box score from Sunday, combined with his 258/.378/.464 slash line on the season. However, there are a lot more zeros in his box scores over the last month than fantasy managers would like. His cold streaks have been killing managers in weekly leagues, but this is Devers we’re talking about. His under-the-hood stats are still solid, and hopefully this game will spark a nice run for the Giants’ star.

JJ Bleday (ATH): 4-4, 2B, HR, 3 R, RBI.

Bleday is back up from Triple-A and had a perfect day at the plate on Sunday. He’s struggled in 2025 to a tune of .206/.298/.388 and spent July in the minors, but he slashed .353/.409/.571 for Triple-A Las Vegas. Combined with his past MLB success, this former first-round pick might have a solid second half for the Athletics. Keep him on your watch list and pounce if he gets hot.

Adolis García (TEX): 3-3, 2B, HR, 2 R, RBI, BB.

Garcia also had a perfect day at the plate, smacking only his 16th homer of the season. Garcia’s BA woes from 2024 have continued into this season, and this seems to be who he is now. Long gone are the 39 HR seasons for Garcia. With his .399 SLG, he’ll be lucky to hit 25 by the end of September.

Zach Neto (LAA): 2-5, 2B, HR, R, 3 RBI.

Neto hit his 16th homer of the season, and his first in 17 games. Neto might have been slowing down lately, but he is still having a breakout season. The 24-year-old lead-off hitter for the Angels is hitting .273/.325/.468, with a .505 xSLG and a 90th percentile .460 xwOBACON. Get him while he’s cheap — he’ll be a hot draft target going into the 2026 season.

Taylor Ward (LAA): 2-5, HR, R, 4 RBI.

Ward crushed a three-run walk-off home run for the Angels on Sunday. While Ward was the hero on Sunday afternoon, he’s been a zero lately, hitting .185 with 12 Ks over the last week. He’s selling out for power in 2025, now up to a career-best 26 homers and .483 SLG, but his .230 BA and .305 OBP are the worst of his career by far. This is shocking for those in OBP leagues who usually relied on Ward’s OBP strength late in drafts. His walk rate is right in line with his career average, but a ballooning 27.8% K rate (ninth percentile) is killing his ratios and irritating his fantasy managers.

Colson Montgomery (CHW): 2-4, HR, R, 4 RBI.

Montgomery’s haters were pointing to his sub-optimal stats in Triple-A this year, assuming he would struggle once he was called up. Boy, were they wrong. Since the All-Star break, Montgomery has been a star for the White Sox, and he hit his seventh home run in 11 games on Sunday, collecting four RBI. He now has 21 RBI since July 18 and is up to fifth in the batting order. Buy in dynasty, but buy in redraft as well if you need some CI or MI help in 12-team leagues.

Kyle Stowers (MIA): 2-4, HR, R, 4 RBI.

Don’t tell Stowers about the Home Run Derby curse. Stowers has been crushing the ball lately and hit another home run for the Marlins, helping them sweep the Yankees. Slashing .296/.373/.575 and up to 25 homers on the year, Stowers has been one of the waiver wire pickups of the year, and is finally up to a respectable roster rate of 86% in Yahoo leagues.
