Five-Hit Day for Yandy Diaz – Fantasy Hitting Recap 3/29/2026

Breaking down notable hitting performances from yesterday’s games.

I Want Yandy

I know a guy who never K’s

He also has power for days

He’s got everything that I desire

Sets the baseball on fire

These are the lyrics to the new hit song “I Want Yandy,” which celebrates the underrated, but outstanding career of Tampa Bay first baseman Yandy Díaz. After a slightly (very slightly) down year in 2024, Diaz bounced back to hit .300/.366/.482 with 25 HRs and his typically low 14.1 K%. Diaz looks poised for another big season after a career-high-tying five-hit day on Sunday, going 5 for 6 with four singles and a double that produced four RBI. Diaz became just the third player in Rays history to record at least five hits and four RBI in the same game, powering Tampa to a 11-7 road win over St. Louis.

There is no reason to believe this won’t be another .300 average, 20 HR campaign for Yandy, but will he spend the entire season in Tampa? It was a little surprising to see the Rays hold onto the 34-year old last season when they were a longshot to make the playoffs and the same trade rumors could pop up in 2026. Diaz would be a huge pickup for any organization and he does have 85 postseason at-bats, including a .333/.429/.500 line in the World Series in 2020.

Let’s see how the other hitters did on Sunday:

Andrew McCutchen (TEX): 2-4, HR, 2B, 2 R, 3 RBI

As a Pirates fan, it pains me to see Andrew McCutchen wearing anything other than black and yellow. But I will always love seeing him succeed, no matter what uniform he is wearing, and the 39-year old has had a hot start to his Texas career. Cutch ripped a pitch in the fourth inning off Phillies lefty Jesús Luzardo just over the wall in left field to extend the Rangers lead to 5-0, which was the difference in the team’s 8-3 series-clinching win. He’s batting .444 with four RBI on the early season. Impressive, considering he just signed with the team on March 5th.

Wilyer Abreu (BOS): 3-4, HR, 2B, R, 2 RBI

Speaking of underrated players, Wilyer Abreu gets overshadowed often by the superstars that accompany him in the Boston outfield, but make no mistake about it, this dude is a stud. Abreu did his best at the plate to earn a Red Sox win, hitting a two-run HR in the fourth inning among his three hits, however Boston fell 3-2 to the Reds. We’ve seen Abreu make improvements in each of his two full seasons at the Major League level, and the 27-year old hit 22 HRs in just 373 at-bats in 2025. He was a relatively late pick in fantasy drafts and could end up being a league winner if he can take that next step.

Brandon Lowe (PIT): 2-3, HR, 2B, R, RBI, 2 BB

Brandon Lowe certainly enjoyed his first series with the Pirates at Citi Field, hitting two HRs on Opening Day and following it up with a 390-foot shot off Nolan McLean on Sunday. No Pirate hit more than 20 HRs in 2025, so Lowe’s 30+ HR power is going to be huge if Pittsburgh has any chance of making a playoff run.

Zach Neto (LAA): 1-2, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, 3 BB

Fantasy managers finally realized how good of a baseball player Zach Neto is, drafting him significantly higher this season. The Angels shortstop rewarded those who did so by getting on base four times, including his second HR of the early campaign. The 25-year-old looks like a lock for another 20/20 season and could flirt with 30/30.

Colson Montgomery (CHW): 2-3, HR, R, 5 RBI, BB

Colson Montgomery took the Major Leagues by storm in 2025, hitting a whopping 21 HRs in just 255 at-bats in his rookie season. The 24-year-old showed off his tremendous power early on Sunday, smashing a first-inning grand slam 405 feet to center off Brewers starter Brandon Sproat. Strikeouts are always going to hamper the young shortstop, but there is no denying his power is elite.

Jonathan Aranda (TB): 3-6, 2B, R, 2 RBI

Jonathan Aranda proved he has what it takes to be a top-of-the-lineup hitter in 2025, batting .316/.393/.489 despite injuries limiting him to just 370 at-bats. The 28-year-old is off to a nice start through three games in 2026, hitting .462/.529/.769 after collecting three more hits on Sunday.

Jordan Walker (STL): 3-4, HR, 2B, 3 R, 3 RBI

Jordan Walker was the talk of the league in 2023, when he started Opening Day at just 21 years of age for the Cardinals and hit .276/.342/.445. It has been tough going for the outfielder in the two seasons since, with injuries and poor performance limiting him to just 527 total at-bats and only 11 HRs. After all he has been through, it’s easy to forget that Walker is still just 24 years old, and Cardinals fans have to be ecstatic with his three-hit performance on Sunday, including a three-run HR, his first of the season.

Alex Bregman (CHC): 2-4, 2 HR, 2 R, 2 RBI

The Cubs fell 6-3 in the rubber match against the Nationals on Sunday, but it wasn’t because of Alex Bregman’s performance. Both of his HRs on Sunday may have been aided by the 25+ mph winds at Wrigley Field, but the power is still a welcome sign for Bregman, who hasn’t come close to matching his 41 HR total in 2019 since then. He’s about as steady as they come and figures to be a prominent part of a dangerous Chicago lineup.

Joey Wiemer (WSH): 3-3, HR, 3B, R, 3 RBI, BB

Surely the question at the forefront of all baseball fans minds right now is will Joey Wiemer ever record an out? No? Just me? What a start for the former Brewers top prospect, with six hits in six at-bats this season, including two HRs. The 27-year old still has all the tools in the world, but issues with his plate discipline have turned him into a journeyman at this point in his career. Hopefully he can carve out a consistent role in a Washington lineup that could use all the help they can get.

Brendan Donovan (SEA): 2-3, HR, 2 R, 3 RBI

Brendan Donovan has certainly endeared himself to Mariners fans in his first four games, hitting .429/.556/.929 and two HRs after lacing a three-run liner just off the top of the wall in right field. This power surge is a welcome surprise for Donovan, who hit just 10 HRs in 460 at-bats in 2025, and he is looking like a savvy late round pick as he bats at the top of a strong Seattle lineup.
