Soto Shenanigans
Juan Soto (NYM): 2-4, 2B, HR, 2 R, 3 RBI, BB.
Juan Bombs are back! Despite going just 9-for-37 (.243 BA) with a 128 wRC+ since coming off the IL, Soto has been due for some time — his .283 xBA and .394 xwOBA over that same span he’s been relatively quiet with the bat best highlight that. Soto launched a 104.5 EV double and 108.2 EV / 417 FT home run off Sandy Alcantara in yesterday’s win over the Marlins. This marks his third consecutive game with a hit, including back-to-back multi-hit variants.

Jackson Chourio (MIL): 4-5, 2B, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI.
Chourio tallied four hits against his division rival, including a 109.8 EV / 394 FT two-run home run that ended up tying the ballgame and later allowing teammate Luis Lara to play hero and walk things off in the bottom of the 10th inning. Over his last fifteen games, the 22-year-old is slashing .333/.347/.594 with a 156 wRC+ and five total home runs.
Zach Neto (LAA): 4-5, 2B, HR, R, 2 RBI.
Neto — ironically a Red Sox target at the trade deadline — went ham against Boston last night. Like Chourio, Neto tallied four hits… but the quality of contact was much better:

Daulton Varsho (HOU): 3-5, 2B, HR, 2 R, RBI.
Varsho was flawless when it came to BBEs last night, racking up two extra-base hits (including a 101.5 EV / 406 FT home run that ended up deciding the game). Known for his premium defense, the 30-year-old sports just a 69 wRC+ since joining Houston via Toronto at the deadline, but that mark has increased to 106 with a .337 xwOBA over his last 15 starts.
Danny Jansen (TEX): 2-4, HR, R, 4 RBI.
Jansen boasts a .280/.308/.680 slash line, good for a 172 wRC+, over his last eight games… yesterday only added to that line. The 31-year-old absolutely torched a home run (gone in 30/30 ballparks), registering a 99.7 EV and traveling 391 FT.
Elly De La Cruz (CIN): 2-4, 2B, HR, R, 2 RBI.
Elly is Elly… that much I know. The Reds lost to the Dodgers last night, but Elly accounted for both of Cincinnati’s runs on one of the greatest home runs I’ve seen all year — off the bat it appeared like the superstar took Tarik Skubal damn near 600 feet to his pullside. In the end, the baseball “only” traveled 444 FT and registered a 109.4 EV. This marks his fourth consecutive game with a home run. He also doubled (108.9 EV) later in the game.

Tim Tawa (ARI): 3-5, HR, R, 2 RBI.
Tawa tallied three hits — including a late-inning home run — in Arizona’s 5-3 win over Kansas City. The homer (100.9 EV / 413 FT) was gone in 30/30 ballparks and his 98.3 EV single put the Diamondbacks on top in the 10th inning. Tawa has now recorded hits in four consecutive games.
Junior Caminero (TBR): 2-3, HR, 2 R, RBI, BB.
Caminero, more than a budding star in the AL East, destroyed a first inning bomb of AJSS… the ball traveled a whopping 455 FT and registered a 110.2 EV. Wild. The 22-year-old now has 39 homers on the season — he needs six bombs to tie his career-high mark he set last season (45). Can he do it? Regardless, he’s rocking a slew of new career-bests this season (xwOBA, wRC+, SLG, and so on). It’s time to put more respect on his name.
