Best Moments From Yesterday

Gracias, Miggy!

The Detroit Tigers have been celebrating Miguel Cabrera all weekend. His parents threw out the first pitch yesterday and the Tigers unveiled a giant “24” that will be permanently displayed in Comerica Park. It’s been a wonderful 21-year career for the future Hall of Famer.

Salvador Perez has high praise for Bobby Witt Jr.

Bobby Witt Jr. hit his 30th home run of the season the other day, making him the first Kansas City Royals player to join the 30+ homer and 30+ stolen base club. Veteran catcher Salvador Perez told Anne Rogers, the Royals’ reporter MLB.com writer, that he’s never seen anybody like Witt Jr.: ‘Thirteen years in Kansas City. No one like him. And I was around good players. [Eric] Hosmer. [Mike] Moustakas. Alcides Escobar. But to do what Bobby does — hit, throw, steal bases, the way he plays. Seriously. He is the best I have ever seen here…I can tell my kids in 20 years that I played with Bobby Witt Jr.

Camilo Doval loves baseball, his horses, and his charro outfit.

The San Francisco Giants held their annual Fiesta Gigantes last night, celebrating Hispanic culture and highlighting the work of local nonprofits that serve the Hispanic communities in San Francisco. The Giants released the video above where Camilo Doval said it was an honor to wear the charro outfit. “Taking part in this gives me pride,” Doval said in the video. He talked about his love for charrería and how he would sometimes ride his horse to the stadium when he was younger.

Injuries & Transactions

CL Félix Bautista will undergo Tommy John surgery.

SP Bryce Elder will not pitch as scheduled today. Atlanta will give him extra rest entering the postseason.

SP Frankie Montas has been activated from the 60-day injured list and made his first appearance of the 2023 season on Saturday.
