1. Seaver King, 2B/SS – Washington Nationals
Seaver King of the Nationals has been one of the best hitters in the minor leagues this August, which is why he earns the No. 1 spot this week. The first-round pick from the 2024 MLB Draft has homered in four straight games, and he has been on an absolute tear this month. In August, King is hitting .391/.473/.797 with a 1.270 OPS and eight home runs.
With CJ Abrams day-to-day and potentially moving off shortstop, this could create an opportunity for King to see more time in the middle infield. For dynasty managers, his well-rounded offensive profile could make him a valuable piece down the stretch. King has shown the ability to use the entire field, posting a 34.2% pull rate and a 36.9% opposite-field rate, while also pairing solid exit velocity with above-average speed. That combination of contact, power, plate discipline, and athleticism makes King an intriguing player to monitor as the season winds down.
2. Ralphy Velazquez, 1B/OF – Cleveland Guardians
Another player who has homered in multiple games in a row has moved up to No. 2 on this list, and that is Guardians top prospect, Ralphy Velazquez. He continues to show why he is considered one of the top prospects in all of baseball and why his hit tool is so advanced for a player who is only 21 years old.
Velazquez has been absolutely dominant in August, hitting .379/.447/1.015 with a ridiculous 1.462 OPS and 14 home runs. With Cleveland still in the playoff hunt, Velazquez could very well force his way into the Guardians’ lineup down the stretch. On the season, he is hitting .293/.380/.562 with a .942 OPS and 27 home runs. Dynasty managers should be stashing Velazquez now, as his combination of hitting ability and emerging power could make him a major fantasy asset.
3. Lázaro Montes, OF – Seattle Mariners
Lazaro Montes has moved down a few spots from last week, but he still needs to be near the top of this list. Montes is having an excellent season, hitting .249/.365/.557 with a .922 OPS and 36 home runs. He has been even better in August, hitting .308/.384/.692 with a 1.076 OPS and seven home runs.
The strikeouts will always be a part of Montes’ game, as he currently owns a 30.9% strikeout rate this season. However, the power is impossible to ignore. Montes has posted an impressive 93.6 MPH average exit velocity, showing that when he makes contact, the ball has a chance to do serious damage. With Seattle’s playoff chances dwindling, the Mariners don’t have much to lose by giving one of their top prospects an opportunity at the big-league level. Kade Anderson getting the call for Saturday’s start could be a sign that Seattle is beginning to look toward its young talent, so dynasty managers should keep an eye on whether Montes could be next as the season winds down.
4. Walker Jenkins, OF- Minnesota Twins
Walker Jenkins moves up to No. 4 this week after a really strong showing in August. The Twins’ top prospect is hitting .389/.450/.741 with a 1.191 OPS this month and recently put together a two-home-run performance, pushing his season total to 11.
On the year, Jenkins is hitting .321/.416/.554 with a .970 OPS and continues to look like one of the best all-around hitting prospects in the game. The Twins could consider giving the 21-year-old outfielder an opportunity to see what he can do at the big-league level. With Minnesota currently holding a Wild Card spot in the standings, adding a bat like Jenkins could provide a boost to their lineup while also giving dynasty managers another exciting potential contributor down the stretch.
5. Charlie Condon, 1B/OF – Colorado Rockies
Charlie Condon, one of the Rockies’ top prospects, moves into the No. 5 spot this week. Currently playing in Triple-A, the 2024 first-round pick has plenty of potential and has continued to show why he was one of the top selections in his draft class. With Colorado out of contention, the Rockies have an opportunity to give Condon a look at the big-league level and see what he can bring to the lineup.
Condon has been especially productive when hitting in the cleanup spot this season, posting a .280/.385/.572 slash line with a .957 OPS. That could potentially be where his future lies in the Rockies’ lineup if he can put everything together. The strikeouts have been an issue this season, with 121 strikeouts, but Condon has also shown a solid eye at the plate with 62 walks on the year. With Colorado having little left to play for, giving Condon an extended look could provide valuable experience while giving dynasty managers a chance to see what the former top pick can do against major-league pitching.
6. Ethan Salas, C – San Diego Padres
Ethan Salas continues to showcase why he is one of the best all-around prospects in the game, earning the No. 6 spot on this week’s list. Salas would likely be ranked even higher if the Padres didn’t already have Luis Campusano behind the plate, who has put together a solid season. Salas is already known as an elite defender at catcher, but his bat has certainly caught up as well.
Between Double-A and Triple-A this season, Salas is hitting .297/.372/.456 with a .828 OPS. He has also shown solid plate discipline while adding 15 stolen bases on the season. At just 20 years old, the Padres may not want to rush Salas’ development, but he could be getting too good to keep in the minors for much longer. If he does receive the call to San Diego, Salas should immediately become a must-stash for dynasty managers.
7. Franklin Arias, SS – Boston Red Sox
Franklin Arias moves up to No. 7 on this week’s list. Boston firmly holds a Wild Card spot at this point in the season, and with Roman Anthony on his way back any day now, the Red Sox could also look to add another boost to their lineup by bringing up their top prospect. One of the best prospects in the game, Arias has put together a phenomenal year and continues to make a strong case for a call-up.
Arias is hitting .316/.375/.474 with an .849 OPS in August, while his season-long numbers are even more impressive. On the year, the 20-year-old is hitting .312/.397/.564 with a .961 OPS and 23 home runs. The future is incredibly bright for Arias, but he could also be another young player who provides an immediate boost to a playoff team down the stretch. For dynasty managers making a playoff push, Arias could provide a huge boost if the Red Sox decide to give him the call.
8. Leo De Vries, SS – Athletics
Leo De Vries comes in at No. 8 this week and continues to show why he is considered one of the best prospects in all of baseball. At just 19 years old, De Vries has an exciting offensive profile, including a contact rate of over 79.7%. Dynasty managers should be extremely excited about his long-term potential, especially when you add his speed to the equation. De Vries has already swiped 34 bases this season, giving him the chance to be a major fantasy contributor in multiple categories.
One area of his game that will need to improve as he develops is his tendency to pull the ball, with a pull rate over 50%. However, considering the quality of contact he is making, fantasy managers can live with that for now. The talent is clearly there, and De Vries still has plenty of time to develop into the complete hitter the Athletics hope he can become. With Oakland out of contention and several key pieces of their core dealing with injuries, the Athletics could have an opportunity to bring De Vries up, although they may not want to rush the 19-year-old’s development.
9. Rainiel Rodriguez, C/1B – St. Louis Cardinals
A new name on the list comes in at No. 9, and that is Cardinals standout prospect Raniel Rodriguez. Similar to De Vries, Rodriguez is a teenager playing at the Double-A level and has put together a phenomenal season. At just 19 years old, he continues to show why he is one of the more exciting young prospects to watch.
Rodriguez is hitting .310/.400/.534 with a .934 OPS this season while showcasing a polished approach at the plate. He has also shown plenty of power, hitting 19 home runs on the year. The Cardinals are firmly in the playoff hunt and have already called up a number of young players this season. If St. Louis decides Rodriguez is ready for the challenge, dynasty managers need to stash him immediately. His combination of hitting ability, plate discipline, and power gives him the potential to become a fantasy difference-maker.
10. Sebastian Walcott, 3B/SS – Texas Rangers
Sebastian Walcott has battled injuries this season, but he has still managed to put together a strong year when healthy. The Rangers’ young shortstop is hitting .295/.354/.545 with a .899 OPS, showing the offensive upside that has made him one of the more intriguing prospects in the organization. Walcott has the ability to impact the game in multiple ways, with a combination of power and speed that could make him a valuable fantasy asset.
The power remains one of the most exciting parts of his profile, but his speed gives him another avenue to contribute for fantasy managers. At his best, Walcott has the potential to develop into a player who can provide both home runs and stolen bases while playing a premium position. The biggest question has been staying healthy and continuing to develop his overall game, but the talent is clearly there. If the Rangers decide to give Walcott a chance at the big-league level, he is certainly worth an add in every fantasy format and could have the upside to become a difference-maker for dynasty managers.
