World Series News & Moments: Brewers Crush Rays, On Cusp Of Title

Milwaukee explodes for 8 2-out runs in the fifth to go up 3-0.

Stay updated on everything baseball with our morning MLB News & Moments articles. We’ve got you covered to keep you in the know.

While it hasn’t been quite the World Series we were all expecting, the differences in all three games thus far have been little things. In Game 3, it was Christian Yelich getting a bigger secondary lead that allowed him to beat Junior Caminero’s throw to second that paved the way for an eight-run inning. The little things mean a lot.

MLB HISTORY 😳The @brewersbot.bsky.social are the first team ever to have 7 consecutive batters get a hit in a Postseason game!h/t @OptaSTATS

World Series Wrapup

Brewers Jump On Opening, Close In On Title

An unprecedented inning put the Milwaukee Brewers in an unprecedented position. One win from a World Series championship. Scoring eight runs on seven consecutive two-out hits, the Brewers bludgeoned the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1 in Game 3 of the World Series. With a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven series, the Brewers will have their first attempt at winning a World Series-clinching game since their only other appearance in the Fall Classic in 1982. Unlike that team 44 years ago, when the Brewers had two tries in Games 6 and 7, the Brewers have four opportunities to do so in 2026.

Rookie left-hander Robert Gasser faced the minimum over six shutout innings, while Brice Turang and rookie Cooper Pratt drove in a pair during the eight-run fifth inning. Jackson Chourio went 4-for-5 with a run-scoring double and two runs scored and William Contreras went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. The Brewers, who won Game 1 of the 1982 World Series vs. the St. Louis Cardinals 10-0, pounded out 16 hits in Game 3.

The Brewers did most of their damage against an old friend in Rays right-handed starter Freddy Peralta. Traded away before the season to the New York Mets, Peralta struggled in the Big Apple but was still attractive to the Rays, who scooped up the former Brewers ace at the trade deadline. The Brewers got to Peralta in the third inning for a pair of runs an RBI singles by Christian Yelich and Contreras. Then things got out of control for Peralta in the Rays in the fifth. The inning started with two of the first three batters getting out. A Yelich walk preceded what could have been an inning-ending play. Contreras hit a chopper that third baseman Junior Caminero ranged back and to his left to field, then spun and threw to second. Yelich was initially called out, but the Brewers challenged and Yelich snuck in just ahead of the throw, which opened the floodgates. Left-hander Cam Booser, in his first appearance of this World Series, then hit a single off the glove of shortstop Taylor Walls that scored two. Six more hits would follow, again all with two outs. When all was said and done, the Brewers were up 10-0. The seven two-out hits in a single inning were a World Series record.

The game finished with a cool moment as right-hander Brandon Woodruff, the longest-tenured Brewers player who hadn’t pitched since July 4 due to a right shoulder injury, pitched the ninth inning to close it out.

By The Numbers

42 Of the 43 times a team has had a 3-0 lead in a best-of-seven series in MLB postseason history, 42 of those have won that series. Thirty-three teams have finished off sweeps, while only two have pushed the series to a Game 7, with the 2004 Boston Red Sox in the AL Championship Series rallying to beat the New York Yankees.

8 The Brewers, who did not have a winning streak of more than five games during the regular season, are the fifth team to win eight straight postseason games, the most in MLB history.

11 Brewers star Jackson Chourio became the 11th player in MLB postseason history to have three multihit games in the World Series before age 23. Chourio did it in his first three World Series games. Chourio has eight hits in the first three games of the World Series, one behind the MLB record.

Best Moments From Yesterday

On The Wall

Rays left fielder Chandler Simpson isn’t known for his defense, but certainly turned that around for at least one play.

Chandler Simpson put his body on the line 😳

Too Fast?

Simpson is known for his speed, which may have cost him in oversliding on this steal attempt.

No Let-Up

Even with a 10-0 lead late in the game, the Brewers didn’t give the Rays an inch. Just look at right fielder Sal Frelick’s effort.

Not quite a baseball sky due to the dome, but still pretty.

Woody Appreciation

Brandon Woodruff, the longest-tenured Brewers player, pitched the ninth inning of Game 3 after possibly sustaining a career-ending injury July 4. He had considered surgery, but a scan showed progress and his hard work paid off with his World Series appearance.

Noteworthy News

Lindor Wins Clemente Award

The Roberto Clemente Award means a lot to each MLB player who wins the prestigious honor. But it might mean a little more to New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor, who was named the 2026 winner. Clemente and Lindor were both born in Puerto Rico, with Lindor learning about the Pittsburgh Pirates icon’s legacy growing up. “It inspired my generation,” Lindor said of Clemente’s lessons. “Hopefully, this inspires another generation to continue to care for others, continue to love your neighbors, continue to give back.” Among Lindor’s charitable endeavors is donating $1 million to a Florida middle school that bears his name, providing hurricane relief in 2017 and 2022 and others that focus on kids.

⚾ Mike Rizzo, the former longtime Washington Nationals general manager, was scheduled to be interviewed Monday to lead the Houston Astros‘ front office.
