Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Picks: 5/18

Who should you target on the Waiver Wire?

Welcome to the Waiver Wire Picks, our daily fantasy baseball article that looks at the best players in baseball that you should be adding to your rosters. We’ll look at the players that are likely to be available in most leagues, as well as some deep league waiver wire options, and we’ll also look at the most added players in fantasy baseball across the major sites, and let you know which players to add and which players you can leave on the wire.

Top Priority Players to Add

Brayan Rocchio (CLE), 2B/SS (Yahoo – 25%)

While I discuss his Cleveland Guardians teammate later on in this article, Rocchio is also worth talking about. He homered on Sunday, giving him four home runs to go along with eight stolen bases so far this season. It’s encouraging to see him hitting for more power this season, with his career-high in home runs for a season coming in 2024 when he only hit eight. The Guardians also have a history of getting the very most out of their players, so you can be confident in his improvement so far this season.

Rocchio has proven to be a very consistent hitter, with a stellar 17:16 K:BB ratio. It’s a drastic improvement over last season, where that ratio was 77:22. In 45 games, that means he’s already almost walked as many times as he did all of last season in 2025. Always batting ninth in the order is going to hurt his counting stats a bit, but if you have a need on the infield, he may be your best option available on the waiver wire.

TJ Rumfield (COL), 1B (Yahoo – 11%)

TJ Rumfield is also deserving of some recognition here. So far this season he’s batting .274 with six home runs and 23 RBI in 45 games so far this season. As is the case with all Colorado Rockies hitters, we need to look at his home/road splits and what the upcoming schedule has in store. This week, the Rockies will play three games at home before going on the road for a four-game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Rumfield isn’t part of a strict platoon, but has gotten a lot more at-bats against right-handers so far this season. He’s also been productive both at home and on the road, and I think it’s as good of a time as any to give him a shot if you have a hole or a need in your lineups this week.

Yahoo and ESPN Most Added Players

Angel Martínez was the player I was initially going to lead with after he hit yet another home run on Sunday, but I will mention him here since he showed up on the most added list on both Yahoo and ESPN. He has now homered in four of his past five games while also adding three stolen bases in that span. He’s continuing to prove he’s an electric player to the point that it can’t be seen as a fluke any longer. He will probably be a player who runs hot and cold throughout his career, but when he’s on, he’s doing a pretty good José Ramírez impression. Remember, he started his career as a switch-hitting second baseman just like Martínez. He may even be learning a thing or two from the future Hall of Famer along the way. It’s a good time to ride out this hot streak,  and even though the Cleveland Guardians‘ home park helps lefties hit more home runs, his home and road splits are pretty even. So you can confidently use him this upcoming week, where the Guardians have seven road games.

Peter Lambert is someone worth mentioning because his start on Sunday against the Texas Rangers was much better than the final line would suggest. Through six innings, he had only allowed three baserunners and two runs with six strikeouts, but it all came apart in the seventh inning. He loaded the bases and was pulled, then the bullpen gave up all of the runs. So he only allowed six baserunners and gave up five runs. Considering he had a WHIP of 1.00 and pitched into the seventh inning, it’s safe to say he deserved much better than the final line suggests. For that reason, I’m actually encouraged by the start and will continue starting him. He pitches deep into games and should be a good volume arm this season.

After throwing a complete-game shutout earlier in the week, Bailey Ober likely belonged at the top of this list. His start on Sunday was more of a mixed bag, where he allowed three earned runs in five innings, walking two and only striking out one. He’s scheduled to face the Boston Red Sox next weekend in Fenway. The Red Sox offense has struggled mightily all season, so he would be a good streaming option in his next start.

J.T. Ginn (ATH), SP (Yahoo – 11%)

After two starts where Ginn has combined to only give up one run over 14 innings, it’s a great time to stream him with two road matchups on the slate this week.  He’s scheduled to face the Los Angeles Angels and the San Diego Padres, and those are two offenses that aren’t too scary that I’m willing to roll the dice here. In his last road start, he dominated the Philadelphia Phillies over eight innings and earned the win, and these matchups on paper are a lot more favorable than that start. Since he came through there and is on a nice run, I’m confident in him being productive in his two starts this week. Ginn has also shown an ability to pitch deep into games and has been solid overall with a 3.12 ERA and 1.20 WHIP across 43.1 innings so far this season.

Walbert Ureña (LAA), SP (Yahoo – 6%)

Ureña is another one with a nice two-step opportunity this week, opposing Ginn and the Athletics on Monday, then facing the Texas Rangers at home on Sunday. It’s important to note he’s facing the Athletics away from their home ballpark, which makes it a more favorable matchup for Ureña facing that offense. He has struggled a bit more than Ginn to go deep into games and hasn’t been consistent, but the stuff is there for him to do a good impression of his teammate José Soriano. The key to his success is his control, and if he’s able to limit the walks, I believe he has a good chance to come through this week.

Speculative Adds

Braxton Garrett (MIA), SP (Yahoo – 8%)

Garrett struggled in his first start since 2024 for the Miami Marlins, but I’m mostly willing to dismiss a first start back like that. We’ll get a better idea of what Garrett will actually be going forward, facing both Atlanta and the New York Mets in Miami this week. I expect him to be much better in his second start, but the question is how much better. Garrett has had runs of success at the MLB level before, so if you were going to use him, this would be the time for it. With the injury to Robby Snelling, he should get some runway as a starter for Miami as well.
