Top Minor League Hitting Performances

Triple-A breakout bats dynasty managers need to stash now

Triple-A has recently been loaded with standout offensive performances, as several top prospects are beginning to force their way into the MLB conversation. From explosive power surges to major improvements in plate discipline and contact quality, a number of rising bats are making strong cases for big league promotions. For dynasty fantasy managers, this is one of the most important times of the season to monitor prospect development closely, as breakout performances at the highest level of the minors can quickly translate into fantasy value at the MLB level. Here’s a look at some of the hottest Triple-A hitters who are rapidly climbing dynasty rankings and putting themselves firmly on the redraft radar as well.

Pedro RamirezChicago Cubs

Pedro Ramirez is quickly becoming one of the more intriguing dynasty risers in baseball. The Chicago Cubs infielder is currently slashing .308/.383/.564 and showing a level of power development that dynasty managers should pay close attention to.

A career .292 hitter throughout the minor leagues, Ramirez originally signed with the Cubs out of Venezuela in 2021 for just $75,000. He put together an outstanding April, slashing .323/.398/.625 with seven home runs and a .988 OPS, earning International League Player of the Month honors. He followed that up with another strong showing on May 3, going 3-for-5 with two RBI.

Ramirez has rapidly climbed prospect rankings over the past year. MLB Pipeline currently ranks him as the Cubs’ No. 3 prospect, while FanGraphs recently moved him up to No. 3 in the organization and 79th in the overall Top-100 prospects.

Through 34 games this season, Ramirez has continued to produce at a high level, posting eight home runs and 35 RBI while maintaining nearly a .300 batting average. The biggest development in his profile has been the emergence of legitimate game power. Prior to this season, Ramirez had never hit more than eight home runs in a single year. He has already matched that total before the middle of May.

The underlying metrics support the breakout as well. His fly-ball rate has jumped from 25.6% last season to 31.4% this year, showing a clear effort to elevate the baseball more consistently. At the same time, he continues to display elite bat-to-ball skills. Ramirez owns just a 6.3% swinging-strike rate, reinforcing the idea that swing-and-miss is not a major concern in his profile.

For dynasty purposes, Ramirez should absolutely be on managers’ radars. He has always demonstrated the ability to hit for average, but now the power production is beginning to emerge alongside it. Add in his above-average speed with already 12 stolen bases this season, and there is potential for a well-rounded fantasy contributor who can impact multiple categories.

If the power gains prove sustainable, Ramirez could develop into an everyday big leaguer capable of contributing batting average, double-digit home runs, and stolen bases. Given his current trajectory, he may not be far away from making an impact at the major league level.

Cole CarriggColorado Rockies

Cole Carrigg, the Rockies’ third-round pick in 2023, is off to a phenomenal start in Triple-A this season. He currently leads all of Triple-A with a .366 batting average to go along with a .426 OBP and a .948 OPS. One of the biggest developments in Carrigg’s profile has been the improvement in his plate discipline, as he has lowered his strikeout rate from 27.0% last season to an impressive 14.1% this year. He’s also walking at a solid 8.1% clip, showing a more well-rounded offensive approach. Carrigg currently ranks as the No. 7 prospect in the Colorado Rockies system according to FanGraphs and No. 6 according to MLB.com, so there is legitimate prospect pedigree here.

Arguably, his best performance of the season came on May 2, when he went 4-for-5 with his second home run of the year and drove in five runs. Carrigg has been one of the hottest hitters in the minor leagues and could be knocking on the door for an MLB debut later this season. He owns a solid 36.8% hard-hit rate with an average exit velocity of 87.1 MPH, showcasing quality contact skills while dramatically cutting down on swing-and-miss concerns.

This breakout from Carrigg should eventually earn him a shot in Colorado, and dynasty fantasy managers should absolutely be paying attention to the rising prospect. Speed is a major part of his fantasy appeal as well, as he has already stolen 21 bases in just 34 games this season. While power may never be the centerpiece of his profile, a player capable of providing a high batting average with elite stolen-base upside can be extremely valuable in dynasty formats.

Henry BolteAthletics

Henry Bolte is another prospect who absolutely needs to be on dynasty managers’ radars. He has put together a phenomenal season in Triple A, slashing .357/.419/.1.088 while showcasing an exciting blend of power and speed. The power surge has been especially impressive, as Bolte has already launched 12 home runs this season. The former second-round pick has been scorching hot recently, recording back-to-back five-hit performances while blasting four home runs over that stretch. Simply put, he has been one of the hottest hitters in all of the minor leagues.

Bolte has made significant strides with the quality of his contact this season. His average exit velocity has jumped to 90.7 MPH, up from 88.7 MPH last year, while his hard-hit rate has climbed to 44%, an increase of three percentage points from a season ago. Those improvements suggest the breakout may be backed by legitimate skill development rather than just a short-term hot streak.

Bolte is ranked inside the top-10 prospects in the Athletics system across multiple outlets and should continue to rise quickly if this level of production holds. Already known for his speed, he has added 16 stolen bases this season, further boosting his fantasy upside. If the bat continues to develop, Bolte has the potential to become an extremely valuable dynasty stash thanks to his power-speed combination. He is definitely a name dynasty managers should be monitoring closely as the season progresses.

Braden MontgomeryChicago White Sox

Braden Montgomery, one of the key prospects acquired by the Chicago White Sox in the trade for Garrett Crochet, has earned a promotion from Double-A to Triple-A this season. Ranked as the No. 26 prospect in baseball by MLB.com and No. 100 overall by FanGraphs, Montgomery is widely known for his elite hit tool, which has absolutely shown up in games this season.

The former 12th overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft is slashing .309/.418/.561 with a .979 OPS while consistently making loud contact. Montgomery has posted an impressive 94.2 MPH average exit velocity along with an outstanding 53.8% hard-hit rate, reinforcing why evaluators are so bullish on his offensive upside. Through his first seven Triple-A games, he has also shown strong plate discipline with a solid 15.1% walk rate. None of this production should come as a surprise given his prospect pedigree, but dynasty fantasy managers should still be paying very close attention because his bat has the potential to make a fantasy impact sooner rather than later.

Montgomery has already looked comfortable against Triple-A pitching, showing an ability to quickly adjust to the highest level of the minors. On May 7, in just his third Triple-A game, he recorded three hits, including two extra-base hits, while driving in two runs.

At some point this season, the White Sox are expected to give the 23-year-old an opportunity in the majors as they hope he can develop into a long-term middle-of-the-order bat. For dynasty managers, Montgomery’s combination of advanced hitting ability, strong plate discipline, and impact contact makes him one of the more intriguing rising prospects to monitor closely.

As we continue to evaluate some of the top talent at the Triple-A level, dynasty managers should be paying close attention to the wave of prospects nearing MLB promotions. We have already seen several notable call-ups this week, including Bryce Eldridge of the San Francisco Giants and Spencer Jones of the New York Yankees. With more high-end talent on the verge of reaching the majors, now is the time for dynasty managers to stay aggressive on the waiver wire and proactive with prospect stashes. Identifying these breakout players before they establish themselves at the MLB level can provide a major long-term advantage in dynasty formats.
