Fantasy Baseball Daily Hitting Recap: 9/3/2025

Breaking down notable hitting performances from yesterday’s games.

Matthew My Ole Chapman

Matt Chapman (SF): 3-4, 2 HR, 2B, 2 R, 4 RBI, BB.

Don’t look now but the San Francisco Giants have won ten of eleven games to pull within four of a Wild Card spot after good ole Matt Chapman powered the team to a 10-8 win in Colorado. The Giants have now homered in 17 consecutive games and Chapman is up to seven HRs over his last 30. Chapman has now reached the 20 HR plateau in four of his last five seasons and he is also enjoying a career high 13.4 BB%. The Gold Glove third baseman is looking to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2023 with Toronto and San Francisco will certainly make things interesting down the stretch if the team can continue to hit with this kind of power.

Let’s see how the other hitters did on Wednesday:

Kerry Carpenter (DET): 1-3, HR, 2 R, 3 RBI, BB.

Kerry Carpenter powered the Tigers to a 6-2 win over the Mets with a three-run blast of Ryan Helsley in the bottom of the seventh inning to put the game out of reach. The HR was Carpenter’s 23rd of the season, in which he has missed time with injuries. All but two of those 23 home runs have come against right-handed pitching.

Joey Wiemer (MIA): 2-2, HR, R, 2 RBI, HBP.

A name we haven’t heard in quite some time, Joey Wiemer had a big day at the plate for the Marlins on Wednesday, reaching base all three times and hitting his first home run of 2025. Wiemer profiled as an exciting athletic outfielder who struck out a ton in his rookie season with Milwaukee in 2023, in which he hit 13 HRs and stole 11 bases in 367 at-bats. Following several injuries, multiple trades and being designated for assignment by the Royals in July, Wiemer finds himself in Miami with only 53 MLB at-bats since that 2023 season. Strikeouts continue to plague Wiemer (48.3 K% in the Majors this season with zero walks), but the Marlins are hoping the 26-year old can harness that power/speed combo that made him an interesting prospect in Milwaukee.

Nasim Nuñez (WAS): 3-4, 2 HR, 2 R, 4 RBI.

Nasim Nuñez enjoyed a career day in the Nationals 10-5 win over Miami, hitting his first two MLB HRs. Nunez has always been known more for his speed than his power and he had hit just two HRs all season in 86 games between AAA and the Majors prior to Wednesday.

George Springer (TOR): 2-4, HR, 3 R, RBI, 2 BB.

George Springer and the Blue Jays continued to crush the baseball on Wednesday in their 13-9 comeback win over Cincinnati. At 35 years old, Springer is enjoying maybe the best season of his career, hitting .307/.399/.557 with 27 HRs and 16 stolen bases.

Daulton Varsho (TOR): 3-5, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI.

Do we need to be talking about the power numbers Daulton Varsho is putting up this season? The 29-year old is now up to 18 HRs in just 176 at-bats in 2025 after hitting the same number in 2024 in 459 at-bats. Varsho’s .369 ISO easily eclipses his previous career-high of .207 and if he hadn’t spent most of the year on the injured list, he would’ve easily bested his previous career-high of 27 home runs.

Steven Kwan (CLE): 3-5, 2B, 2 R, RBI.

Steven Kwan set the table for Cleveland’s 8-1 win over Boston, going three for five with his 25th double of the season. It was Kwan’s second three-hit game of the series and the Guardians find themselves just three games out of a Wild Card spot.

Yandy Díaz (TB): 5-5, 2B, R.

The Rays singled George Kirby and the Mariners to death, with just two of their 19 hits going for extra bases. Diaz had one of those extra-base hits and four of the singles, raising his average to .294 on the season. He is now hitting .560/.621/.720 over the last week.

Joey Bart (PIT): 3-3, 2B, RBI.

The Pirates had big plans for former second overall pick Joey Bart coming into the season, but the former top prospect just hasn’t been able to replicate his resurgent 2024 season. He did show flashes of that promise on Wednesday, reaching base all three times he stepped to the plate in Pittsburgh’s 3-0 win over the Dodgers.

Jo Adell (LAA): 2-4, HR, R, 4 RBI, SB.

When Jo Adell makes contact with the baseball it goes far, as evidenced by the 418 foot three-run missile he hit in the sixth inning to power the Angels to a 4-3 win over Kansas City. The HR was Adell’s 33rd of the season and he added his fifth stolen base as well.

Brice Turang (MIL): 2-3, 3B, 2B, R, RBI, BB, SB.

Brice Turang has really turned it on over the last month, hitting .360/.425/.746 with 11 HRs in his last 30 games. The 25-year old hit just 13 HRs over his first two seasons in the Majors and he has really taken a step forward with the bat in 2025.

Willson Contreras (STL): 3-4, 3B, R, 4 RBI.

Willson Contreras and Nolan Gorman carried the offense for the Cardinals in their 5-1 win over the Athletics on Wednesday. Contreras got the scoring started with a two-run single in the third inning and a two-run triple in the eighth to seal the victory.

Nolan Gorman (STL): 3-3, HR, R, RBI.

The aforementioned Gorman reached base all three times yesterday, which included his 14th HR of the season in the seventh inning.

Austin Wells (NYY): 3-4, HR, 2 2B, R, 2 RBI.

It has been an up and down season for Yankees catcher Austin Wells, but Wednesday was definitely up as he hit his 20th HR of the season and added two doubles. Wells started to lose playing time to Ben Rice in August, but he seems to have gotten the message, hitting .364/.417/909 with three HRs over the last week.

Yordan Alvarez (HOU): 4-5, 2B, R, RBI.

Astros fans are glad to have superstar Yordan Alvarez back in the lineup and I think we can put aside any concerns about his hand injury affecting his performance. The 28-year old cracked four hits in Houston’s 8-7 comeback win over the Yankees and he is hitting .476/.571/667 over his last seven games.

Hunter Goodman (COL): 3-5, 2B, R, 3 RBI.

The Rockies earned their 101st loss of the season on Wednesday, but once again Hunter Goodman was a bright spot for the team. The 25-year old added three hits and three RBI to his All-Star campaign and has showed no signs of slowing down in his first full season in the Majors.
