Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Picks: 7/31

Look for these players on your waiver wire.

Welcome to the Waiver Wire Picks, our daily fantasy baseball article that looks at the best players in baseball that you should be adding to your rosters. We’ll look at the players that are likely to be available in most leagues, as well as some deep league waiver wire options, and we’ll also look at the most added players in fantasy baseball across the major sites, and let you know which players to add and which players you can leave on the wire.

Top Priority Players to Add

Colson Montgomery (CWS), SS, 3B (21% owned in Yahoo!)

Montgomery’s 76.8 MPH is an elite mark and would rank fifth in the majors if he were qualified, slotting between Aaron Judge and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Out of the All-Star Break, he has five homers to go with a 16.1% barrel rate and 45.2% hard-hit rate in 42 plate appearances before Wednesday’s homer.

Montgomery struggled in over 800 plate appearances at Triple-A in 2024 and 2025, with an elevated strikeout rate and a wRC+ in the low 80s. However, he still had a strong prospect pedigree with premium bat speed and could be putting things together. The swinging strike rate is dangerously high at 17.6% for the season in the majors, so it is also very feasible that the hot streak will flame out.

Joe Boyle (TB), SP (24% owned in Yahoo!)

Boyle has been one of the most dominant starters in Triple-A this year, with a 1.85 ERA and 32.9% strikeout rate. He’s cut the walk rate down to 10%, which is significant for a guy with his strikeout stuff. The flamethrower takes over Taj Bradley’s rotation spot and profiles as a strong pickup in most formats.

Griffin Jax (MIN), RP (25% owned in Yahoo!)

Jax is in line to be the primary closer in Minnesota after the Phillies acquired Jhoan Duran on Wednesday. Jax leads all pitchers in Pitch Level Average at 2.32, and is one of the best relievers in the game with a clear runway for saves.

Yahoo! and ESPN Most Added Players

Andrew Vaughn is fresh off a monster Tuesday night performance against the Cubs, going 3-for-4 with a homer and six RBI. On a small sample in 57 PAs, Vaughn has the third-highest wRC+ in baseball (226) behind Nick Kurtz and Kyle Stowers since being traded to Milwaukee on June 13 (min. 50 PA).

Chris Paddack was streamed against Arizona on Wednesday in his Detroit debut and pitched well, allowing one run on three hits and no walks while striking out five.

Ramón Laureano has been swinging a hot bat in July, hitting .299/.354/.517 with five homers and a steal in 96 plate appearances. He is another trade candidate for the Orioles.

Fantasy managers streamed Taijuan Walker against the White Sox on Wednesday, and he didn’t return much value as he went five innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out none in a no-decision.

Brayan Bello was effective in a win against Minnesota, throwing seven innings while allowing one run on five hits and four walks while striking out four. He’s been on a nice extended run since June, with a 3.00 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in 63 innings.

Nick Kurtz and Kyle Stowers have been among the best lefty hitters in baseball this season and should be rostered universally.

Eric Lauer has been on a roll this year with a 2.68 ERA, and many of his peripherals back it up enough. It is worth riding on while he is hot.

Matt Shaw was featured as the priority pickup last week in this article and has the profile to be one of the impact bats down the stretch of the season.

Quinn Priester has been included here previously and should be picked up in all formats if available.

Streaming Pitchers

Frankie Montas Jr. (NYM), SP (15% owned in Yahoo!)

Montas draws the Giants at home on Sunday, which is a favorable draw. The Giants have the fourth-lowest batting average (.239) and tied for the sixth-lowest OPS (.706) against right-handed pitching since June.

Montas has been more comfortable in his home pitcher’s park at Citi Field this season, where his splits are much better. He has a 3.31 ERA at home versus an 8.10 ERA on the road.

Deep League Players to Watch

Ke’Bryan Hayes (CIN), 3B (4% owned in Yahoo!)

Hayes was traded to Cincinnati on Wednesday, and a change of scenery could be beneficial for the third baseman. Hayes has always had the ability to hit the ball hard, but, of course, his angles have never been ideal, and it hasn’t turned into anything meaningful from a production standpoint.

He gets a favorable boost in his home ballpark, shifting to Great American Ballpark. During his career-best season for home run output in 2023 with 15, Great American Ballpark was the most friendly for his batted ball profile that season, with five more expected homers than any other ballpark. Hayes has been a bad hitter for the past two seasons, but he still has an interesting skillset that could be unlocked and is worth keeping an eye on.
