Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Picks: 9/18

Scoop up these players off your waiver wire.

Welcome to the Waiver Wire Picks, our daily fantasy baseball article that looks at the best players in baseball that you should be adding to your rosters. We’ll look at the players that are likely to be available in most leagues, as well as some deep league waiver wire options, and we’ll also look at the most added players in fantasy baseball across the major sites, and let you know which players to add, and which players you can leave on the wire.

Top Priority Players to Add

We’ll hit on a couple of bats to add with a lot of leagues in championship week. Nick has a ton of pitchers covered here on The List for your pitching needs.

Caleb Durbin (MIL), MIL (22% rostered in Yahoo)

Durbin has had a rock-solid rookie campaign for Milwaukee, hitting .264/.338/.403 with 11 homers and 16 stolen bases in 464 plate appearances.  He is one of six hitters in baseball with a strikeout rate below 10%, including Luis Arraez, Nico Hoerner, Jacob Wilson, Steven Kwan, and Mookie Betts (minimum 450 PAs).

The rookie has caught fire over the last week, hitting for a 1.046 OPS and reaching base in six of his last seven games. He’s tied with teammate Isaac Collins for the most fWAR among NL rookies. And despite not having a ton of pop, he’s been the 15th most valuable third baseman this season in 12-team 5×5 formats by Fangraphs Player Rater.

Brandon Marsh (PHI), OF (9% rostered in Yahoo)

Marsh is finishing out the regular season on a high note, hitting .378/.429/.733 and currently holding the fifth-highest wRC+ (216) among qualified bats in September. He sat on Wednesday against a lefty, but played three straight before that. He’s been a streaky hitter throughout his career, and this could be a good time to latch on.

Andrew Benintendi (CWS), OF (7% rostered in Yahoo)

Benintendi is getting every everyday run for the White Sox and has popped five homers and 13 RBI in September, both ranking among the best in the month. It’s a boring profile, but it can help fill in the cracks to close out the season.

Yahoo and ESPN Most Added Players

Tyler Wells was a hot streamer against the White Sox on Wednesday and delivered a gem with six innings of one-run ball to go with four strikeouts.

Ryan Weathers was streamed in Colorado on Wednesday and had an abbreviated outing. The Rockies pounced on him for two runs on four hits and two walks early, and he did not escape the second inning.

Luis Gil was lit up by the Twins on Wednesday, allowing nine hits and four runs in 4.2 innings. He’s been super up and down since returning from injury.

Justin Verlander has been outstanding of late and delivered another beauty on Wednesday against the Diamondbacks. He has now allowed only one run over his last 25 innings to go with 23 strikeouts.

Lucas Giolito struggled on Wednesday against the Athletics, coughing up four runs on five hits and five walks while striking out five. He’s now walked five hitters in two of his last four outings.

Daylen Lile has been the best hitter in September, hitting .400/.463/.783 with three homers and a stolen base in 67 plate appearances. The quality of contact does not quite align with those numbers, with a 41.2% hard-hit rate and 7.8% barrel rate, but he makes a lot of contact and has shown good discipline.

Harrison Bader has been a major pickup for Philadelphia, hitting .334/.392/.507 and playing good center field defense since being acquired.

Jorge Polanco has rediscovered his early-season form as the Mariners have won 10 straight games. It’s been a resurgent season at the plate for him, with his best overall offensive numbers since 2021 in Minnesota.

Streaming Pitchers

Janson Junk (MIA), SP (5% rostered in Yahoo)

Junk was a surprise standout in the middle part of the season, but has fallen back now and holds a 4.48 ERA for the season. But the peripherals still look favorable, and he gets a favorable matchup on Friday in Arlington against the Rangers. The Rangers have scored the sixth-fewest runs against right-handers in September, and their home ballpark has been one of the most pitcher-friendly. In fact, the Rangers’ home ballpark is tied with Seattle for the lowest park factor this season. We’ll roll with Junk on the road.
