Weather Impact

Significant rain expected for ATL@CHC – long delay likely, possible PPD? Check for updates.

The two biggest games in terms of overall runs are WAS@CIN & TOR@BOS; GABP is tops for HRs and Fenway is best for XBH.

Moderate wind blowing in at Wrigley for ATL@CHC which may limit HRs a bit.

7PM Slate:

Wind blowing out to center for SEA@LAA.

Moderate wind blowing in a bit for CWS@CLE, but the park design still allows for XBHs.

Wind blowing in for ARI@MIN – the closest thing to “safe” for pitchers that you’ll find in August.

Early slate is ugly for pitching – it’s unclear how long Javier Assad, George Soriano, and Joan Adon will pitch in their games (not that you want to start pitchers vs ATL, TEX, and CIN at home anyway). Nestor Cortes is coming off the IL and is likely to be on a pitch count. José Berríos has given up nine ERs and five HRs in two games vs BOS so far this season.

Justin Verlander is probably the only decent SP1 left – and it’s not ideal that he restarts his HOU career on the road – but he last saw the Yankees about 10 days ago with zero ERs and six Ks (four walks were the only troubling stat). Nick Pivetta has a decent K rate along with high PLV rates but he tends to be a tough guy to trust. On a slate like this though, that may need to be enough for a SP2 if you need one.

Aaron Civale is most likely the SP2 chalk, but DET has a lot of history vs Civale given his days with CLE. More than likely he has a two ER, 4-5 K signature start but his ceiling isn’t very high for tournaments.

Andrew Abbott has pitched surprisingly well at GABP, but WAS had three HRs yesterday and he is trending up on FB contact and down on PLV rating vs Rs. He’s going to have some rostership but if you really want to take control of this slate, this is one spot where you look to bust the top-priced pitcher and stack both sides hoping it shoots out.

As mentioned above, José Berríos has struggled vs BOS this season and BOS tends to play tough at Fenway. This game also projects to be the second highest scoring for the slate.

It’s not certain how long Javier Assad will pitch – and given how ATL hits, it might not be that long either way.

Look out – TB is playing better on the road lately. Tarik Skubal has had moments where he’s looked good vs TOR & SF, but he’s also been blown up vs KC & MIA. If you’re aiming to be different in tournaments, look for a couple of Tigers bats to break Aaron Civale.

It’s now been over two months since Jon Gray earned a win, and his starts in July averaged six hits allowed and three or more ERs. George Soriano has been good in limited innings, but since TEX got Corey Seager back, they’ve been a revitalized team again.

More than likely this should end up being a pitcher’s duel, as Nestor Cortes has been decent in his rehab starts and HOU seems to rarely run up the score on anybody… but the Yankees have so many issues that anything can happen.
