Welcome to the RP Roundup, my daily fantasy baseball article reviewing every reliever performance from the previous day.
TBR 3 – CLE 2
| Tampa Bay Rays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ian Seymour – HLD (5) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Bryan Baker – SV (7) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
- Bryan Baker left a couple of changeups up in the zone that Manzardo and DeLauter hit hard here, but he was able to bounce back and strike out the final two hitters to record his 7th save. He’s now tied with Paul Sewald and Riley O’Brien with 7 saves (as we all imagined a month ago), trailing only David Bednar (8) and Mason Miller (10). He’s still only 40% rostered in Yahoo leagues and 15% in ESPN (what is happening over there?).
| Cleveland Guardians | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Matt Festa – HLD (1) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
| Erik Sabrowski – HLD (11) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| Hunter Gaddis – L (1) | 0.1 IP | 2 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Colin Holderman | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
- Hunter Gaddis did not have his best command, leaving pitches over the middle of the plate here. No real concern with the stuff, just a bad location day for Gaddis.
STL 4 – PIT 2
| St. Louis Cardinals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ryan Fernandez – W (1) | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 4 K | 7 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
| George Soriano – SV (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
- George Soriano getting a rare save chance with Riley O’Brien off, and as long as he can hide his fastball he should be ok.
| Pittsburgh Pirates | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Justin Lawrence | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 44% CSW |
| Wilber Dotel – HLD (1) | 4.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 7 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Evan Sisk – HLD (1) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Isaac Mattson – HLD (6) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 67% CSW |
| Gregory Soto – HLD (6) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Dennis Santana – L (2) | 0.2 IP | 4 ER | 4 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 15% CSW |
| Cam Sanders | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
- Dennis Santana got one out on one pitch last night before things unraveled quickly. He then proceeded to give up back to back HR’s to Pages and Wetherholt, followed by a walk, single, walk, and a double. The numbers could have been worse, but Cam Sanders was able to strike out Church to leave runners on 2nd and 3rd and end the inning. We know Santana has middling stuff (at best), but Gregory Soto’s stuff has taken a step back recently as well, so I’m not sure he’s the answer in the ninth long term. Mason Montgomery…it’s time.
BOS 5 – TOR 0
| Boston Red Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Greg Weissert | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
- Greg Weissert is uninspiring and not someone that’s exciting to chase in holds leagues…but he does have some role stability I guess.
| Toronto Blue Jays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Joe Mantiply | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Chase Lee | 1.1 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Tommy Nance | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- Chase Lee’s first outing at the MLB level this year and outside of an HR to Narvaez, where he hung a sweeper, he looked solid. He’s good depth, not much else though.
SEA 4 – MIN 11
| Seattle Mariners | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cole Wilcox | 1.1 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 6 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Alex Hoppe | 1.2 IP | 3 ER | 2 H | 3 BB | 3 K | 6 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
- Alex Hoppe made his debut here and didn’t have great command, and the stuff is pretty meh as well, to be honest.
| Minnesota Twins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Andrew Morris – HLD (2) | 3.0 IP | 2 ER | 4 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Taylor Rogers | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
- Andrew Morris had some decreased velo here, so his fastball didn’t look as good as it has, but the sweeper was a little bit better. His deep arsenal probably means he’ll be a long reliever for a while here, but I still see a path for him as a one-inning reliever with his four-seam/sweeper.
LAA 7 – CHW 8
| Los Angeles Angels | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nick Sandlin – L (1) | 0.0 IP | 3 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
| Drew Pomeranz – BS (2) | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
| Jose Fermin | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 1 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
- You gotta wonder if Drew Pomeranz is the next Angels veteran reliever to be DFA’d as he keeps grooving fastballs over the middle of the plate. The stuff still looks good; he just needs to locate better.
| Chicago White Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Osvaldo Bido – W (2) | 3.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
| Jordan Hicks – HLD (2) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 12% CSW |
| Grant Taylor – HLD (2) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Bryan Hudson – SV (1) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
- Grant Taylor almost closed this one out, but was pulled after giving up a single and two doubles in the ninth (both doubles were of the bloop variety). The stuff was down for him in this one, but that could be weather-related.
NYY 4 – TEX 2
| New York Yankees | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Camilo Doval | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Tim Hill – HLD (4) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 3 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| David Bednar – SV (8) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- Jazz Chisholm Jr. made the ninth inning interesting with his adventures at 2B, but David Bednar worked around it and finished the job. The velo seems to be slowly creeping back (almost to 96 MPH here), which is a good sign, but the lack of swing and miss is still an issue. At least he hasn’t walked anyone his last three times out.
| Texas Rangers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Peyton Gray | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Gavin Collyer | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- No whiffs for Gavin Collyer…throw the sweeper more!
CHC 7 – SDP 9
| Chicago Cubs | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ben Brown – L (1) | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 9% CSW |
| Phil Maton | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Jacob Webb | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
- Phil Maton picking up where he left off, although to be fair, the second “hit” could (should?) have been a double play ball that Swanson botched, and the triple was a bouncing ground ball down the line that Matt Shaw horribly misplayed. So there was bad luck involved here, and Maton’s curveball looked great, but his fastball (cutter) velo is still down.
| San Diego Padres | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Adrian Morejon – HLD (5) | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Jason Adam – HLD (6) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 5 Whiffs | 41% CSW |
| Mason Miller | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 48% CSW |
- Weird outing for Mason Miller, as I’m sure most of you have seen the first of the three hits he allowed last night. After that, Swanson turned on a fastball, and PCA snuck a groundball through the right side off a slider as Miller allowed his first runs in 34.2 innings. The whiffs have come back down to earth lately, but Miller is still the best in the game, there’s no question about that.
MIA 4 – LAD 5
| Miami Marlins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| John King | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Michael Petersen – HLD (2) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Andrew Nardi – HLD (4) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Calvin Faucher – HLD (3) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Pete Fairbanks – L (2) | 0.1 IP | 3 ER | 1 H | 3 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 9% CSW |
| Tyler Phillips – BS (1) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- Pete Fairbanks could not find the strike zone here as he walked three batters before leaving with a trainer, as he may have had a Raynaud’s flare-up. Heading into this game, Fairbanks had walked just five batters over his past 41 games (40.2 IP). It wasn’t that cold in LA last night (low was 55 degrees), but it affected Fairbanks here, and hopefully he’s feeling better today and won’t need to miss any time on the IL.
| Los Angeles Dodgers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alex Vesia | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 4 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
| Tanner Scott | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 7 Whiffs | 65% CSW |
| Edgardo Henriquez | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Jake Eder – W (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
- Alex Vesia worked the 6th, and Tanner Scott the 7th here, with the Dodgers trailing, so that’s not exactly ideal for those hoping to see saves from them. At least you got three strikeouts.
