NL West

Colorado Rockies

Top 10 Prospects

Notable Promotions

  • Adael Amador was activated after rehabbing with the Hartford Yard Goats, but the Rockies elected to have him stay with the Double-A Goats to continue to develop. The top prospect slashed a paltry .171/.194/.200 in the bigs, but that was to be expected in his first stint at just 21 years old.

Notable Performances

  • Cole Carrigg continues to look good at High-A. He’s played in 21 games since the start of June in which he’s batting over .400 and slugging over .500 thanks to three home runs, three triples and four doubles in that span. He’s had a good season and ranks fifth in the Northwest League in OPS. He’s also second in steals with 29 bags swiped. The 22 year old has potential to be more valuable if he somehow manages to hold the catcher designation, but it doesn’t seem likely given that his speed is such a big part of his game.
  • Robert Calaz is absolutely dominating at the rookie level. He’s leading the Arizona Complex League in RBI, second in OPS (1.098) while also tied for second in doubles and home runs. He’s 18 years old, but seeing the power and speed translate from the Dominican Summer League is exciting as he prepares to move through the farm over the next few years.

Arizona Diamondbacks

Top 10 Prospects

Notable Promotions

  • Cristian Mena made his debut this past week, as he was called up to make a spot start against the Dodgers – a tall task. He surrendered four runs in just three innings, including back-to-back home runs to Freddie Freeman and Teoscar Hernandez in the first inning. He’s been optioned back down to Triple-A, but could see work in the rotation again if needed.

Notable Performances

  • Yu-Min Lin has been struggling this season. The southpaw has a 1.71 WHIP across his nine starts and an ERA of 5.45 at Double-A. It’s his first year at this level after looking very sharp across Rookie, Single-A and High-A in his first couple of seasons. The strikeout rate is still there, and it might take time for him to adjust to the higher levels of minor league ball. It’s worrisome, but time should help and it’s too short of a window to make major adjustments. Hopefully Lin has a better end to the season.

San Fransisco Giants

Top 10 Prospects

Notable Promotions

  • Marco Luciano was optioned to Triple-A after being activated from the Injured List.
  • Landen Roupp saw another bit of middle relief work in the Giants 10-4 win over the Dodgers on June 30th and was optioned to Triple-A after the game. Roupp came off the IL directly to the big league club after three rehab starts in the Arizona Complex League and was an extra arm behind Spencer Bivens in the win, giving up 3 runs in 2.2 innings of work. He sits right outside the top 10 prospects.

Notable Performances:

  • Joe Wittman was promoted from Single-A to High-A on June 19th and has looked solid in his first four starts with the Eugene Emeralds. He just completed his longest outing so far post-promotion, throwing six innings of one-run ball (zero earned) in his first win with the new club. He now holds a 21:3 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 19 innings in High-A so far. He’s poised to be a solid middle rotation starter within the next few years.

Los Angeles Dodgers

Top 10 Prospects

Notable Promotions

  • Josue De Paula is having a good year thus far and has been promoted a level to High-A. He’s slashing .270/.394/.426 on the season across both levels after moving up to the Great Lake Loons on June 25th. He’s started a bit slow in his first eight games but it’s good to see De Paula progressing through the ranks. Currently sidelined on the 7-day injured list, the 19 year old is one to watch for the second half of the season.

Notable Performances

  • Another young player in the Dodgers system, Joendry Vargas, is crushing it in the Arizona Complex League. At 18 years old he is second amongst shortstops in OPS and 14th overall, hitting to a .926 in the statistic. He has a 60-grade hit tool with above average power. He should climb the ranks quickly and expectations are that he’ll be a solid option through the back half of the 2020s.

San Diego Padres

Top 10 Prospects

Notable Promotions:

  • No big moves to report here. Adam Mazur continues to be with the big league club but is not highly impressive or worth jumping at for fantasy purposes.

Notable Performances:

  • Robby Snelling has looked a bit shaky this season. Considered the second-best prospect in the San Diego system, Snelling jumped from Single-A to Double-A last year with a great performance at three different levels. This year, starting at Double-A, has been a different story. He’s 2-8 with a. 6.14 ERA, 1.64 WHIP, and a 56:29 K:BB ratio in 66 innings, a big step down from last years 118:34 K:BB in 110 innings.
  • Tiso Ornelas is having his best minor league season yet, slashing .311/.385/.522 at Triple-A. The 24 year old might be able to see some time as an outfielder later in the year, but its a crowded situation in the San Diego outfield and his big league debut might not come this season.
