The Fantasy Baseball Stream Team: Week 7

Michael McGreevy and Travis Bazzana flash for the Stream Team Week 7

Welcome to the Week 7 edition of the Stream Team. As we settle into the heart of the fantasy season, the waiver wire is no longer about chasing early-season fliers; it’s about cold, hard efficiency. Whether you are nursing a lead or clawing your way back into the standings, finding those high-floor innings and opportunistic matchups is what separates the contenders from the rest of the pack. Whether you’re hunting for a weekend stolen base boost, a Tuesday afternoon power surge, or a fill-in for a nagging IL stint, streaming position players is about one thing: maximizing volume and exploiting matchups.

This week, the schedule makers have handed us a fascinating slate. We are keeping a close eye on teams like the Mariners and Cardinals, who face almost exclusively right-handed rotations, opening the door for platoon specialists to shine. Meanwhile, hitters visiting the hitter-friendly confines of Coors Field and Great American Ball Park are primed for elevated floor plays. Let’s dive into Week 7 targets that will give your lineup the boost it needs.

As always, to qualify for the Stream Team, we are looking for impactful contributors who are available.

The Criteria

  • Availability: Every featured player is rostered in fewer than 45% of Yahoo and ESPN leagues.
  • The Goal: Identifying high-upside plays for managers who need to replace struggling starters and injured players at specific positions.

The Stream Team

SP – Michael McGreevy, St. Louis CardinalsMichael McGreevy is rapidly becoming a must-own streaming asset. Following a dominant performance against the San Diego Padres on May 8, 2026, he is now the 40th-ranked starting pitcher option on Yahoo, according to the 5×5 category leaderboard. In what was arguably the best start of his young career, McGreevy carved through the Padres’ lineup over six scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and two walks while racking up a career-high nine strikeouts. McGreevy has transformed into a high-floor reliable asset for the Cardinals, stringing together three consecutive Quality Starts.

McGreevy Mania

His metrics from the outing against the Padres were elite, featuring 17 whiffs on 94 pitches and allowing only six hard-hit balls all night. The performance extended an incredibly consistent run for the 25-year-old right-hander; he has now delivered three consecutive QS and hasn’t allowed an earned run in his last 12.0 innings. Through eight starts in 2026, McGreevy boasts a stellar 2.18 ERA and a minuscule 0.86 WHIP, solidifying his value as a high-floor starter who provides elite WHIP stabilization and burgeoning strikeout upside for fantasy managers.

He is currently rostered in 28% of leagues on Yahoo and 17% on ESPN. That will probably change before his next appearance in an away game against the Athletics.

RP – Gus Varland, Washington Nationals – Gus Varland has arguably been the most surprising development in the Nationals’ bullpen for 2026. After bouncing between four organizations over the last three years, the 29-year-old right-hander has seized the closer role in Washington and turned it into one of the most stable sources of saves on the wire currently. Varland has successfully converted four of his first six save opportunities this season. Over his last seven games, he has been particularly sharp, posting a 2.57 ERA with seven strikeouts and zero walks over seven innings. The most significant jump in Varland’s profile is his control. He currently boasts a 4.8% walk rate (36th best in MLB), a massive improvement over his career averages. His 2.46 FIP and 2.80 xFIP suggest that his 3.07 ERA is no fluke. He is generating a healthy 25.4% strikeout rate and a stellar 14.9% swinging-strike rate, proving he has the “miss-the-bat” stuff required for high-leverage work. He is consistently sitting at 95.2 MPH with his fastball, and in a landscape where saves are increasingly difficult to find, Varland is a must-own in all 12-team and 15-team leagues.

He is currently rostered in 13% of leagues on Yahoo and 3% of leagues on ESPN.

C – Samuel Basallo, Baltimore Orioles – After a brief taste of the big leagues last season, the 21-year-old left-handed slugger has forced his way into a near-everyday role in 2026. While he is a catcher by trade, Basallo is proving that his bat is far too explosive to keep on the bench, even with the talents of Adley Rutschman on the roster. Basallo has been on a tear over the last week. On May 5th, he delivered a clutch two-run single against Sandy Alcantara, and on May 8th, he kept the momentum rolling with a hard-hit RBI single in a tight game against the Athletics. The presence of Rustchman would normally be a roadblock, but he just returned from an IL stint, and the Orioles are getting creative to keep Basallo’s bat in the lineup. Across 107 at-bats this season, Basallo is slashing .262/.331/.467 with an impressive .798 OPS. He has already swatted five home runs and driven in 15 RBI, backed by a 123 OPS+ that indicates he is providing offensive production well above the league average. He has recorded hits in four of his last five games, including a multi-hit performance against Miami that featured both a double and a triple.

He is currently rostered in 31% of leagues on Yahoo and 21% of leagues on ESPN.

1B –  Andrew Vaughn, Milwaukee Brewers – After missing nearly the entire first month of the season with a fractured hamate bone suffered on Opening Day, Andrew Vaughn has wasted no time making his presence felt in the Milwaukee lineup. Since being reinstated on May 4, 2026, Vaughn has immediately stepped back into the heart of the order for the Brew Crew. In just his second game back, Vaughn blasted a three-run, 403-foot home run against the Cardinals, accounting for half of the Brewers’ runs in a 6-2 victory. He finished the day 2-for-4, proving he is healthy and returned. Last season with the Brewers, Vaughn posted an .869 OPS, and in his first week back in 2026, he has already collected four RBI and a .250+ AVG. If he maintains that level of production without a platoon threat, he could be a set-and-forget piece at first base.

He is currently rostered in 33% of leagues on Yahoo and 5% of leagues on ESPN.

2B –  Travis Bazzana, Cleveland Guardians – After a much-anticipated MLB debut on April 28, the 2025 first-overall pick, Travis Bazzana, is starting to show why the Cleveland Guardians fast-tracked him to the big leagues. Following a quiet first week, Bazzana has ignited over the last few days, highlighted by a massive performance on May 8th, where he went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer and two stolen bases. While his average currently sits around .200, the underlying metrics show a much more disciplined baseball player, with a 20.7% walk rate, 13.8% strikeout rate, and a .368 OBP. He could be a legitimate 20/20 second baseman when he’s fully adjusted to the MLB.

He is currently rostered in 35% of leagues on Yahoo and 19% of leagues on ESPN.

3B – Addison Barger, Toronto Blue Jays – After missing 30 games due to a left ankle sprain suffered in early April, the Blue Jays officially reinstated Addison Barger on May 9, 2026. Toronto didn’t waste any time, immediately slotting him into the #2 spot in the batting order for his return game against the Angels. While his early-season MLB stats are still recovering from a frigid 1-for-22 start before the injury, Barger’s rehab assignment in Single-A Dunedin proved his power is there; he hit two home runs in just three games. Barger was a clutch player for the Jays last year, slashing .295/.353/.508 with RISP, so if he can return to form, he could be a legitimate fantasy asset with third base and outfield eligibility.

He is currently rostered in 28% of leagues on Yahoo and 9% of leagues on ESPN.

SS – Ezequiel Duran, Texas Rangers – After a disappointing 2025 campaign where he struggled to find consistent playing time, Duran has reignited his fantasy profile in 2026. Stepping in for the injured Josh Smith, Duran has become a fixture in the Rangers’ lineup by leaning into a more aggressive, pull-heavy approach that is paying massive dividends. Over his last 30 games, Duran is hitting .304/.385/.494 with an OPS of .879. In his last seven games, he’s posted a .409 AVG with a .517 OBP. He is vastly improving his eye at the plate, drawing six walks in that span as well. He’s also swiped four bags this season and has a 19% barrel rate. It depends on your platform, but on Yahoo, Duran is eligible at first base, second base, third base, shortstop, and outfield. He was what we like to call a Swiss Army Knife, and when they are produced at a high rate, the position eligibility is a very valuable asset to have. This may not be a long-term investment, and you should monitor the Rangers’ lineup moving forward, but if he continues to produce and play a position, he is a must-add asset.

He is currently rostered in 19% of leagues on Yahoo and 10% of leagues on ESPN.

OF –  Spencer Jones, New York Yankees – The wait is finally over. With Jasson Domínguez and Giancarlo Stanton both hitting the shelf, the Yankees have officially called up their top-ranked prospect, Spencer Jones. Standing at a massive 6-foot-7, Jones has been destroying Triple-A pitching all season, and he finally made his highly anticipated MLB debut on May 8, 2026, against the Milwaukee Brewers. While on his first night at the dish, he went 0-for-2 with a walk and two strikeouts, the hype remains sky-high. Before his call-up, Jones was obliterating Triple-A pitching, leading all of Minor League Baseball with 41 RBI and flashing a massive .958 OPS. He brings a rare physical profile that combines elite exit velocity with top-tier sprint speed, making him a potential 30/30 force in the heart of the Yankees’ lineup. His 32.4% strikeout rate is a red flag that we will need to keep an eye on during his first few games, but if he can control that, there may be massive fantasy value.

He is currently rostered in 31% of leagues on Yahoo and 18% of leagues on ESPN.

OF – Ryan Waldschmidt, Arizona DiamondbacksThe Arizona Diamondbacks have officially ushered in a new era in center field by promoting their top prospect, Ryan Waldschmidt. Called up May 8, 2026, to replace the DFA’d Alek Thomas, Waldschmidt made an immediate splash with a pinch-hit single in his first MLB at-bat. Before his promotion, he was the engine of the Triple-A Reno offense, slashing .289/.400/.477 with three home runs and six stolen bases in 34 games. His 14.3% walk rate is encouraging and suggests he won’t be overwhelmed by the higher level of pitching. And since he is in the nine-hole, he is essentially serving as the second leadoff hitter behind Corbin Carroll.
