Starting Pitcher Streamer Rankings Fantasy Baseball: 6/15 & 6/16

Nick Pollack ranks the starting pitcher streamers for today & tomorrow.

Here are today and tomorrow’s daily SP Streamer rankings for fantasy baseball.

Every day of the 2024 baseball season, I’ll be looking at today and tomorrow’s slate of scheduled starting pitchers and ranking their matchups for your fantasy baseball streams.

There’s a lot that goes into this and you can hang out with me on Playback.tv/pitcherlist to talk about the specific ranks as I make them every weekday morning from 10am – 12pm ET. If you have questions about these ranks, please ask during the morning Playback AMA. Those are my office hours as I generally don’t answer comments on the site.

There are four tiers to these rankings with 12-teamers in mind:

Auto-Start – Just do it. Don’t overthink this, start the man. This includes “if I have them rostered, I’m starting them” pitchers.

Probably Start – I’m likely starting these arms, though I recognize there is more risk than we’d like there to be. Either it’s a tough matchup for a good-not-elite pitcher or a weak lineup for a volatile arm. These pitchers have a 50% or greater chance of performing well in my view and I’m starting them in the majority of situations.

Questionable Start – Think of this tier as “I don’t want to start these pitchers in a vacuum, but you could do worse.” Streamers found in this tier are not pitchers I’m targeting and are only if you are in dire need of one. To play it safe with streaming, just start the Probably Start streamers.

Do Not Start – The reward is not worth the risk. Don’t do it. Seriously, these pitchers have a very slim chance of success or sometimes none at all.

Obviously, there will be circumstances where pitchers should move between teams for your situation specifically and these new tiers should act as a little more help than the straight table from last year.

Please keep in mind that streaming is far from a perfect play. In fact, if they work out over half the time, I’d consider it a success. These matchup rankings & streamer picks are going to be wildly different than the actual results throughout the year, so please, have sympathy before the scathing comments and tweets. I’m only trying to help!

Make sure to read the notes if you’re wondering why I’m favoring certain pitchers over others – I won’t get to everyone and hopefully I answer what questions you will have.

There is a second table for tomorrow’s starting pitcher matchups as well, helping everyone get a jump on their nightly pickups. Please note that these matchups are subject to change, though, and there will be times when I have the incorrect pitcher going. I thank you for your future understanding.

Finally, there are my streaming picks of the day, and please keep in mind that I am forced to pick a streamer every day. Those highlighted in Green are that day’s streaming pick in the second tier and I’d roll with them everywhere. Those in Yellow are in the third tier and should be okay if you’re searching for something on a given day, but I don’t recommend streaming unless you’re in need. Finally, those are Red are those I really don’t want to start (they are labeled as “Do Not Start”, after all) but have no other choice. Don’t stream these guys until you are truly desperate. A streaming pick is defined as “rostered in 20% or fewer leagues according to Fantasy Pros. This really emphasizes the point that I’d be happy if over 50% of these worked. I could do the whole sub 30/40% rostered, but there’s no fun in that. You can use the rankings to realize who those picks would be instead.

(Opener) – Outlines that a pitcher is being opened for that day & the pitcher listed will follow the opener.

As I do my rankings, I thought it would be helpful to showcase a table of how we’re ranking offenses (in alphabetical order by tier):

Nick’s Loose Team Offense Rankings (Updated 6/10)

I’m sure it’ll change through the year + there are differences to be made about teams vs. LHP or RHP, but it works as a general table that y’all should keep in mind.

Alright, let’s get to it.

To spice up these streaming recommendations, I’ve included our new daily fantasy baseball projections powered by PLV, and I’ll be competing against PL Bot to pick the best streaming option each day.

These projections are different from your typical projections as they incorporate our pitch quantifier, assessing pitcher and hitter skills at a much more granular level than your standard box score.

The streaming record is determined by “Was this a productive game for 12-teamers if I started them?” Roughly a PQS with a Win and a strikeout per inning with a sub 1.20 WHIP, with a minimum of 5 IP. Close calls are decided by Playback chat.

Today’s Starting Pitcher Rankings

Auto Starts

Shota Imanaga vs. STL – Aces gonna ace.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto vs. KCR – Aces gonna ace.

Nathan Eovaldi @ SEA – Eovaldi is looking too dang good right now and it’s the Mariners

Jared Jones @ COL – Aces gonna ace…though he is holding on by a thread.

Ryan Pepiot @ ATL – Pepiot is looking like an ace these days.

Carlos Rodón @ BOS – Rodón has been unbelievably steady.

Bailey Ober vs. OAK – Ober has had a rough patch, but it’s the Athletics.

Grayson Rodriguez vs. PHI – IT’S THE FINAL BOSS FOR AGA.

George Kirby vs. TEX – IT’S ALSO THE FINAL BOSS FOR AGA.

Jack Flaherty @ HOU – He’s returning from a back injury that gave hin extended rest. We’re still going for it.

Probably Starts

Justin Verlander vs. DET – It’s an incredible matchup for Verlander, especially against his Alma Mater.

Erick Fedde @ ARI – Fedde is a Toby with a solid matchup.

Patrick Sandoval @ SFG – Sandoval has been gold against mediocre offenses.

Keaton Winn vs. LAA – Winn’s splitter is legit and the Angels are not.

Questionable Starts

Seth Lugo @ LAD – I know it’s Lugo, but the Dodgers are ridiculous.

Charlie Morton vs. TBR – He’s a Cherry Bomb. You know this.

DJ Herz vs. MIA – Can Herz throw enough strikes to make this worthwhile?

Andrew Abbott @ MIL – I don’t love what Abbott brings to the table and the Brewers are a solid crew.

Do Not Starts

Andre Pallante @ CHC – We saw him get through a start effectively against Rockie Road, maybe the magic is still there against the Cubs.

Adam Mazur @ NYM – He hasn’t had his command locked in yet, but the stuff is decent enough to be a Toby when it does.

Trevor Rogers @ WSN – It has been rough for Rogers, but if he has his trio of pitchers working, there’s production to be had.

Jose Quintana vs. SDP – Quintana has a decent leash if you’re in dire need for a QS, but the rest is awfully mediocre.

Joey Estes @ MIN – It’s possible Estes can find his way through five frames and execute solid high heaters.

Taijuan Walker @ BAL – At least he has a long enough leash? Walker somehow finds a way more often than expected.

Carlos Carrasco @ TOR – There’s always a chance, you just don’t have to take it.

Bryse Wilson vs. CIN – He’s had one excellent start, that’s it.

Tommy Henry (Opener)vs. CHW – Maybe there’s a vulture Win in here.

Yariel Rodríguez (Opener) vs. CLE –Maybe there’s a vulture Win in here.

Ty Blach vs. PIT – Blach.

Cooper Criswell vs. NYY – It’s the Yankees and Criswell doesn’t go long.

Tomorrow’s Starting Pitcher Rankings

Auto Starts

Tyler Glasnow vs. KCR – Aces gonna ace.

Zack Wheeler @ BAL – Aces gonna ace.

Corbin Burnes vs. PHI – Aces gonna ace. (This game is going to be so fun.)

Dylan Cease @ NYM – It’s the Mets and Cease will get you all the strikeouts.

Logan Gilbert vs. TEX – IT’S HIS FINAL BOSS FOR THE AGA LABEL.

Probably Starts

Jesús Luzardo @ WSN – He’s a Premium Cherry Bomb.

Zach Eflin @ ATL – Eflin is a Holly against a struggling offense.

Marcus Stroman @ BOS – We ride with Stroman against all but the toughest. Expect a QS and a good Win chance.

José Berríos vs. CLE – He’s the Great Undulator who just had his best changeup of the year.

Spencer Arrighetti vs. DET – It’s a great matchup and Arighetti’s four-seamer should perform well against the Tigers.

Mitchell Parker vs. MIA – Parker didn’t come through last time out against a weak team and I’d roll the dice again.

Chris Paddack vs. OAK – It’s the Athletics. He has a long enough leash to make this work.

Ben Lively @ TOR – It looks like his injury was just a scare and we’re rolling with it. I completely understand being conservative, though – it may have disrupted his rhythm enough to turn into a pumpkin after this long Vargas Rule.

Questionable Starts

Kutter Crawford vs. NYY – Kutter came through against the Phillies, though I have more worry against the Yanks.

Tylor Megill vs. SDP – If Megill can get his four-seamer upstairs and pair it with a strong cutter, he’ll come through. No idea if he has it in him here, though.

Drew Thorpe @ ARI – The changeup is solid and could be good enough to get you six frames here against the Sneks. I wish I liked more than that, though.

JP Sears @ MIN – He’s a Cherry Bomb. I legit don’t know if he’ll have a feel for his arsenal or not.

Jameson Taillon vs. STL – Taillon has a kitchen-sink arsenal that could get him through six against the Cardinals.

Kyle Harrison vs. LAA – He’s a Cherry Bomb without a whole lot of sweet. This could be fine with enough heaters in the zone, though.

Dane Dunning @ SEA – It’s a decent Win change for Dunning against a poor lineup.

Jordan Montgomery vs. CHW – You’re a Toby…right? If you can’t come through here, there’s no reason to roster you at all.

Hurston Waldrep vs. TBR – As Eno put it, Waldrep is Keaton Winn but a little worse. That’s okay for the Rays, right?

Do Not Starts

Miles Mikolas @ CHC – Mikolas did a phenomenal job in his last start locating heaters upstairs and out of the zone while letting his sliders do the work. I hope he can repeat it.

Colin Rea vs. CIN – There’s always a chance for Rea to come through. Not something I go for, though.

Brady Singer @ LAD – He’s a Cherry Bomb against an elite offense. Nope.

Dakota Hudson vs. PIT – Hudson has found a way randomly in his time.

Frankie Montas @ MIL – He has a long leash and that’s about all that’s going for him.

Kenta Maeda @ HOU – The ceiling isn’t very high and it’s the Astros.

Daulton Jefferies @ COL – How long are the Pirates letting him go?

José Suarez @ SFG – How long are the Angels letting him go?
