AL East Farm Report v1.0

Martin checks in with the top prospects of the American League East!

The divisional reports are a recurring series put out by the PitcherList dynasty team. These reports provide a list of the top ten prospects on each team in the division and highlight two players from each organization. Each division will be updated once per month by our divisional experts. New this season is the inclusion of tiers in the rankings. Next to their rank, each prospect is assigned a tier. The tier range is 1-5.

  • Tier 1: A potential difference-making dynasty prospect. Somebody who would rank in the top-20ish prospects for dynasty baseball
  • Tier 2: A still very good dynasty prospect who holds plenty of value. This prospect would typically rank in the 21-75 range
  • Tier 3: A mid-tier prospect who could be valuable but has questions and concerns present in his profile ranking in the 76-150 range
  • Tier 4: A prospect who is worth knowing, but is reserved for deeper leagues. This prospect would rank 151-250
  • Tier 5: The rest of the prospects fall into Tier 5

The American League East is one of baseball’s most dynamic and competitive divisions. Each team has taken turns atop the division over the past 20 seasons, with the Red Sox (2007, 2013, 2018) and Yankees (2009) winning a World Series. The arms race among the farm systems has also ticked up in recent years, although the Rays and Red Sox are locked and loaded with high-end talent, with the O’s and Yankees on their heels, and Toronto’s system remains relatively weak. Here is a look at the AL East Farm Report for 2025!

Baltimore Orioles

Top 10 Prospects

Notable Prospect Assignments

  • Unfortunately, it’s Groundhog Day for third baseman Coby Mayo. Even with the Gunnar Henderson injury, Mayo still could not crack the Opening Day roster in Baltimore. He did himself no favors this Spring as he hit .190 with no homers and 13 strikeouts in 42 at-bats. That comes on the heels of a 4-for-41 MLB debut last season in which he posted a 47.8% strikeout rate. We cannot look over the immense talent that Mayo has, however, getting over the hump has not been easy for the 23-year-old.
  • Enrique Bradfield Jr. is jumping to Triple-A after playing just 27 games for Double-A Bowie last season. The 23-year-old was dynamic this Spring, showing his speed in a big way in MLB games while also performing well in the Spring Breakout game. Bradfield’s speed will play at the highest level, but we need to see more out of the hit tool. Moving to AAA is a big step for him and signals an internal belief in Bradfield.

Notable Prospect News

  • Orioles’ top prospect, Samuel Basallo, will spend the early part of 2025 strictly as a DH due to elbow inflammation. Basallo had a strong 2024 season, primarily with Double-A Bowie, batting .278 with 19 homers, 25 doubles, and 10 steals. With Ryan Mountcastle entering a walk year, Basallo will likely split time between 1B and C in Triple-A before his call-up later this summer.
  • 2024 first-round pick Vance Honeycutt was named to the All-Spring Breakout team after a strong performance against the Yankees. In that game, Honeycutt went 1-for-2 with an inside-the-park home run, a walk, a run, and an RBI. His profile has some very loud tools, specifically his power and speed, but underlying swing-and-miss concerns may limit his upside. If everything clicks, Honeycutt could be the Orioles’ next top prospect.

Boston Red Sox

Top 10 Prospects

Notable Prospect Assignments

  • I’m surprised that the Red Sox are leaving Jhostynxon Garcia at Double-A to open 2025. Although it will likely be a short stint for the Password in Portland, I expected him to start at Worcester. I’m assuming he’s being squeezed out because Roman Anthony and Trayce Thompson are not likely to make the MLB roster. Once Anthony goes up, Garcia should be the corresponding move to replace him in Worcester.
  • It’s eye-opening that right-hander Yordanny Monegro will return to High-A to start 2025 after making 15 appearances at the level last season. Monegro just turned 22 in October and is on the slowest possible path up in the organization. There are reportedly some off-field concerns with his maturity and mental makeup, so I wonder if that’s part of the reason. His stuff is undoubtedly legit, as he posted a 2.84 ERA last season across two levels.

Notable Prospect News

  • You’ll be disappointed if you’re looking for Kristian Campbell on this list. The reason for that is that Campbell completed his improbable journey and made the Red Sox roster out of camp. Despite having a subpar Spring, Campbell is likely the primary second baseman. The 23-year-old showed flashes of offensive and defensive star power during camp and was the 2024 Minor League Player of the Year.
  • Luis Perales continues his rehabilitation from Tommy John surgery and will miss most of the Spring portion of 2025. His surgery date was July 1st last year, so Perales will likely ramp up his throwing program sometime in mid-to-late May. In a best-case scenario, Perales makes a few appearances to close out 2025 with a goal of a full Spring Training in 2026.

New York Yankees

Top 10 Prospects

Notable Prospect Assignments

  • It’s very exciting to see Henry Lalane returning in 2025. The 6’7″ left-hander missed a good chunk of last season with an undisclosed injury that limited him to 12 1/3 innings. Lalane is an exciting young talent who was rising quickly before the injury, and a player I’m high on as a prospect. In his MiLB career, the 20-year-old has 138 strikeouts in 123 2/3 innings with a 3.68 ERA across three levels.
  • George Lombard Jr. is returning to High-A Hudson Valley to open 2025 but won’t be there long. The 19-year-old had a very strong Spring Training, batting .231 with two homers and a steal in MLB camp. The surface stats may not seem overly exciting, but when you consider that Lombard hit .231 in A-ball last season, his stock is through the roof entering 2025.

Notable Prospect News

  • Yankees’ right-hander Chase Hampton underwent Tommy John surgery in late February and will miss all of 2025. This news is unsurprising after a flexor strain limited him to 18 2/3 innings in 2024. With Hampton out, the Yankees’ Minor League depth is taking a hit on top of the early MLB issues.
  • There is a lot of buzz around Everson Periera and his future with the Yankee organization. Although he’s battled injuries in each of the past two seasons, Periera has underwhelmed many, and his time may be coming to an end. If the Yankees move on, it could open the Triple-A door for outfielder Spencer Jones, who has his warts but is widely regarded as the Yankees’ best prospect outside Dominguez and Lombard.

Tampa Bay Rays

Top 10 Prospects

Notable Prospect Assignments

  • Rays top prospect Carson Williams is set to open 2025 at Triple-A Durham along with Chandler Simpson and Tre’ Morgan. Williams should be the Rays’ primary shortstop by the end of 2025, joining a young infield core of Junior Caminero and Jonathan Aranda. Morgan and Simpson each have a unique skill set that is better for real life than fantasy, and they should earn a promotion by the season’s end.
  • I’m keeping a close eye on Dylan Lesko at High-A Bowling Green. Lesko was acquired in the Jason Adam trade with the Padres last season and was previously a Top 50 overall prospect. The 21-year-old former first-round pick has been unable to put it all together as a pro, but with an entire offseason with the Rays’ player development, I’m hopeful his once-promising talent can rise to the top again this season.

Notable Prospect News

  • Although no longer a prospect, infielder Curtis Mead made the club out of Spring Training. The 24-year-old performed well at Triple-A last season, batting .288 with 13 homers and 11 steals in just 364 at-bats. Mead was also a former Top 50 prospect and is looking to rebuild his fantasy and real-life value with a hot start to 2025 in the Majors.

Toronto Blue Jays

Top 10 Prospects

Notable Prospect Assignments

  • 2023 first-rounder Arjun Nimmala is returning to Class A to start the 2025 season. Nimmala struggled immensely to open last season but finished with a .913 OPS over the final three months, including hitting 14 homers. If Nimmala keeps making gains with his hit tool, his raw tools are some of the best in the Minors.
  • Southpaw Mason Fluharty was surprisingly optioned to Triple-A after a dominant Spring Training. The 23-year-old logged seven innings, allowing just one run with 11 strikeouts. His performance was not surprising after he posted a 3.63 ERA with 76 strikeouts over 67 innings last season at Triple-A Buffalo.

Notable Prospect News

  • Veteran outfielder Alan Roden finally cracked the Jays’ Opening Day roster after two highly productive seasons in the Minors. Roden has a career OPS of .860 with 27 homers and 43 steals in 265 MiLB games, with most of his damage coming since 2023. Roden should get an extended look in the Jays’ outfield while Daulton Varsho recovers from an injured shoulder.
  • 2024 first-round pick Trey Yesavage has yet to be assigned to an affiliate, leading me to believe he’s headed to the Complex League. Yesavage made his first professional appearance in the 2025 Spring Breakout game, tossing two scoreless innings with three strikeouts. The Jays have said from the outset that keeping Yesavage healthy was their primary goal this Spring, and their mission has been accomplished.
