Welcome to the Waiver Wire Picks, our daily fantasy baseball article that looks at the best players in baseball that you should be adding to your rosters. We’ll look at the players that are likely to be available in most leagues, as well as some deep league waiver wire options, and we’ll also look at the most added players in fantasy baseball across the major sites, and let you know which players to add, and which players you can leave on the wire.
Top Priority Players to Add
Pavin Smith (ARI) 1B, OF (31% owned in Yahoo!)
Smith is currently the second-best hitter in baseball (min. 70 PA) by wRC+ with a whopping 237, only trailing the great Aaron Judge. He has tattooed the baseball with a mammoth 0.437 xwOBA and 23.7 Barrel% while also displaying a great approach.

— Jon Anderson (@JonPgh) April 18, 2025
Yes, he will sit a lot versus lefties. But he mashes on a per-plate appearance basis. Smith should continue to hit for power with a decent AVG in the heart of the Diamondbacks’ lineup, which is currently third in MLB in runs scored.
Cam Smith (HOU) 3B, OF (29% owned in Yahoo!)
After a disappointing start to the year for another Smith, many people likely hopped off the Cam Smith bus. It’s another reminder to be patient with prospects. He has looked much more comfortable at the plate recently. This is borne out by Pitcher List’s Decision Value, where he currently has a 125, good for a top 12 mark among all hitters. He’s still struggling to make contact, but this is a talented player with exciting raw power who is still getting his feet wet in the majors.

Eric Wagaman (MIA) 1B, 3B (6% owned in Yahoo!)
Wagaman has been a surprise bat who has emerged in Miami. His blend of contact, patience, and power has made him an interesting hitter to pick up. He’s a bit of a late bloomer at 27 years old, but he is rocking a .397 xwOBA early on, in addition to a sustainable foundation under the hood.
Grant Holmes (ATL) SP (36% owned in Yahoo!)
Holmes is worth mentioning here as he has been pitching well recently, and the unfortunate news of Spencer Strider going on the IL keeps his rotation spot even more secure, although it was likely secure anyway. In his last three starts, he has a 2.08 ERA to go with 17 Ks in 17.1 innings.
Matthew Liberatore (STL) SP, RP (16% owned in Yahoo!)
Liberatore is interesting as he possesses multiple above-average Stuff+ breaking balls as well as three near-average fastballs. In his fourth big league season, it looks like he has potentially found his stride at 25 years old. Striking hitters out at his highest rate (24.5%) and walking fewer than ever (2.0%), he’s pitched to an impressive 1.87 FIP in 25 innings. He might be breaking out.

Tobias Myers (MIL) SP (12% owned in Yahoo!)
Myers is set to make his season debut on Thursday and has looked sharp in his rehab starts. Myers doesn’t throw hard (92.9 mph fastball), but was pretty consistent in 2024. He’ll step in and eat innings for a Milwaukee pitching staff that can use it.
Yahoo! and ESPN Most Added Players

David Festa was a popular target against the White Sox on Wednesday. He’s pitched effectively in his other three starts with a 2.14 FIP, but the Twins are reluctant to let him work past the fifth inning, which limits his upside.
Andrew Heaney has been great to begin the year and just eviscerated the Angels Wednesday night, with 17 whiffs in six shutout innings. Oh, and he also struck out the first six batters of the game. He’s worth picking up while he’s cooking like this.
Marlins catcher prospect Agustín Ramírez has had quite the start to his career. He hits the ball hard and has some speed, which is a rarity at the catcher position. Early returns are good, and he should get all the playing time you could want.

Eduardo Rodriguez, out of nowhere, is striking out 30% of hitters in 2025. The SwStr% (10.2%) isn’t much different from his career norm, so it is unlikely to sustain.
Noelvi Marte looks primed for everyday playing time after some injuries in the Reds’ infield, after seemingly being on the outside looking in before the season. The skills have always been enticing with Marte, despite what has happened in the past year. The quality of contact for the season is not there yet, but he did hit this 116.7 mph rocket on Tuesday, which speaks to his raw power.

Tyler Mahle is your current MLB ERA leader as we come close to the end of April. His fastball velocity is up, although still below average at 92.4 mph. Despite the subpar velocity, his pristine command in locating his fastball up in the zone has led to the most swings and misses in the zone so far.

Dylan Moore has had an intriguing power-speed skillset and is putting some pieces together this season. He has eligibility at every infield spot and outfield in Yahoo!, which is incredible. Additionally, Moore is one of 11 eleven players with at least five homers and five stolen bases. He is a real 20/20 candidate.
Carson Kelly just keeps on doing it. He has the best xwOBA (0.495) in baseball (min. 50 PA). His savant page is bleeding out. It’s one of the coolest stories so far in the 2025 season, along with this crazy fact.
The funny thing about Carson Kelly turning into Barry Bonds in April is that he’s done it before https://t.co/cOP4la471S pic.twitter.com/wsP8X1Q2Et

I highlighted Max Meyer as the priority add a few weeks ago in this column. In his most recent start against the Reds, he made history with 14+ strikeouts and zero walks in six innings, joining Randy Johnson as the only other pitcher to accomplish that feat.
Category Specific Players to Add
Jon Berti (CHC) 3B (1% owned in Yahoo!)
Berti looks to have taken the reins as the Cubs’ primary 3B with the news of the Matt Shaw demotion. We will see how much run he gets, but we’ve seen the stolen base numbers that Berti can rack up when given the opportunity, with 41 in 404 PA in 2022. The strength of the Cubs’ lineup also gives a good chance for respectable runs and RBI.
Streaming Pitchers
Be sure to check out Nick’s daily SP streaming article!
Quinn Priester (MIL) SP (12% owned in Yahoo!)
Last week’s streaming pick, Luis L. Ortiz, pitched decently for us last week in his revenge spot. We stay in the NL Central for this week, targeting Quinn Priester in St. Louis on Saturday. The Cardinals have a bottom-10 xwOBA (.320) against RHP this year. Specifically, against right-handed sinkers, they have the second-worst xwOBA (.289) in the league, along with a 60% ground ball rate. Priester throws the sinker most often (35%) and should rely on it heavily. Factor in Busch Stadium being a top 10 pitchers’ park by park factor, and we have a solid streaming pick.
Speculative Adds
Luke Weaver (NYY) RP (37% owned in Yahoo!)
Devin Williams has struggled a bit this season, and his fastball velocity is down almost a full tick (93.8 mph). Weaver has continued his dominance into this year and could work his way into a closer committee or take the job entirely.
Ryan Gusto (HOU) SP (5% owned in Yahoo!)
Gusto is someone to keep tabs on as he has some interesting underlying numbers so far. His fastball has a strong 18.9 SwStr%, plus his cutter (12%) and curveball (15.8%) boast above-average marks. The question is how much longer we will see him stick in the rotation with other Astros’ starters seemingly close to returning.

Deep League Players to Watch
J.T. Ginn (ATH), SP (3% owned in Yahoo!)
Ginn looks like a part of the Athletics‘ rotation, and his profile shows some promise. It’s a strong sinker (113 Stuff+), which has a whopping 80 GB%. He has a 61.5 GB% overall, which is a good place to start. The home ballpark is scary, but there are things to like here with Ginn.
Mickey Moniak (COL), OF (2% owned in Yahoo!)
Moniak has made the most of his time in Coors as he has slugged his way into being semi-interesting. He has a career best Barrel% (13.6%) and HardHit% (50%) in addition to a surprising 19.4% K rate. It is very much unsustainable as his SwStr% is still sky-high at 18.3%. But he could be an interesting guy to use when he plays his games at home.
