Welcome to the RP Roundup, my daily fantasy baseball article reviewing every reliever performance from the previous day.
HOU 2 – SEA 6
| Houston Astros | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| J.P. France | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 13% CSW |
- J.P. France is back and looked fine, I guess.
| Seattle Mariners | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Matt Brash (HLD) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Cole Wilcox | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 3 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- Cole Wilcox slider is nasty, he just needs to gain some consistent fastball command.
ARI 7 – BAL 9
| Arizona Diamondbacks | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Taylor Rashi | 0.2 IP | 4 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Jonathan Loáisiga (L) | 0.2 IP | 2 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 16% CSW |
| Andrew Hoffmann | 1.1 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
- Jonathan Loáisiga had trouble commanding his changeup and fourseamer, and left his curveball over the plate too much here. It was a pretty bad outing, but given the lack of quality alternatives here, he should still have some sort of setup role for this team.
| Baltimore Orioles | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Albert Suárez (W) | 2.0 IP | 3 ER | 4 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Rico Garcia (HLD) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Ryan Helsley (SV) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 42% CSW |
- We saw the good Ryan Helsley here tonight, although he still leaves a lot of hittable pitches over the plate. We’ll certainly take this after a few rollercoaster outings from him lately.
WSN 5 – PIT 16
| Washington Nationals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Paxton Schultz | 2.2 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 4 K | 4 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| Jackson Rutledge | 1.1 IP | 7 ER | 6 H | 2 BB | 2 K | 8 Whiffs | 34% CSW |
| Brad Lord | 0.2 IP | 3 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 9% CSW |
| Orlando Ribalta | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Joey Wiemer | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 10% CSW |
- Jackson Rutledge was recalled yesterday and subsequently sent back down after this outing. This bullpen is just as bad as we all had thought it would be, huh.
| Pittsburgh Pirates | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| José Urquidy | 1.0 IP | 4 ER | 6 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 4 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
| Evan Sisk | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 4 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
- Evan Sisk is back with the Pirates, and he’s an interesting lefty when he can command his stuff.
CHC 7 – PHI 13
| Chicago Cubs | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jacob Webb | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Charlie Barnes | 3.0 IP | 3 ER | 4 H | 3 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
- Charlie Barnes probably shouldn’t be throwing his fastball (four-seam and sinker) 66% of the time, but his secondaries are just average at best, also, so, yeah…
| Philadelphia Phillies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Seth Johnson | 1.2 IP | 3 ER | 4 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Orion Kerkering | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 2 Whiffs | 39% CSW |
- Orion Kerkering is back and better than he looked last year, so yea I’m excited about this right now. He threw an absolutely nasty splitter here as well to Ballesteros, and that pitch has a chance to be a difference maker for him as he has had difficulties vs. lefties in his career so far.
LAA 10 – NYY 11
| Los Angeles Angels | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shaun Anderson | 2.1 IP | 4 ER | 4 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 6 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Mitch Farris | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Drew Pomeranz (HLD) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Jordan Romano (L) | 0.0 IP | 3 ER | 3 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 16% CSW |
- Drew Pomeranz looked amazing here again, and that fastball/curveball combo is cooking right now. I know Kirby Yates is close to returning, but you could do worse than stashing Pomeranz right now and seeing how things play out.
- Because this outing from Jordan Romano was really bad. He still has no fastball command, and he hasn’t all season, so I don’t know if we can expect it to improve. He actually had to face MLB-level hitters in this game, and of course, it went poorly. The stuff is average right now; it may be good enough to survive in this role, but the fastball command NEEDS to improve.
| New York Yankees | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fernando Cruz | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Tim Hill | 1.2 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Jake Bird (BS) | 1.0 IP | 3 ER | 4 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 5 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Camilo Doval | 1.1 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
| Paul Blackburn (W) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
- There aren’t a lot of positives to take away from any of these outings, and Jake Bird was optioned to AAA after this one as a result. Fernando Cruz is going to walk a lot of guys, Tim Hill is going to get BABIP’d, this will happen with Camilo Doval, and Paul Blackburn will finish an inning with 0 Whiffs and 0% CSW. There’s really no surprise here.
MIA 10 – ATL 4
| Miami Marlins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Andrew Nardi (W) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Calvin Faucher | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 3 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| John King (HLD) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Lake Bachar | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 4 K | 10 Whiffs | 34% CSW |
| Anthony Bender | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
- Three walks from Calvin Faucher here, especially given the situation, is less than ideal. I’m not really sure what the high leverage pecking order is here (Fairbanks hasn’t even pitched in a week as they’ve had no save chance), but it looks like Faucher and Anthony Bender are on the outside looking in.
| Atlanta Braves | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aaron Bummer (L) | 1.0 IP | 3 ER | 4 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 1 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Rolddy Muñoz | 2.0 IP | 3 ER | 5 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 7 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| José Suarez | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 4 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
- Aaron Bummer’s stuff has evaporated, and it’s just really tough to trust him. Dylan Dodd could take over that second lefty bullpen spot eventually.
BOS 6 – MIN 13
| Boston Red Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jovani Morán | 2.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Ryan Watson | 2.0 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
| Tyler Samaniego | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 18% CSW |
- This trio had to finish the game after Crochet’s disastrous start, and they did a respectable job, more or less. I may be missing something, but I’m not entirely sure why Ryan Watson is still hanging around. I guess the breakers can be pretty good, but are they really going to carry him on the roster for the entire season?
| Minnesota Twins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eric Orze | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Garrett Acton | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 39% CSW |
- Ugh, we go Eric Orze in this situation, and he had zero command. He’ll likely be volatile like this with that splitter-heavy approach.
- Garrett Acton may be interesting, I guess. At least we have a solid fastball foundation here, but the slider is way below average.
CLE 9 – STL 3
| Cleveland Guardians | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tim Herrin | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Erik Sabrowski | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Hunter Gaddis | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Cade Smith | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
- Hunter Gaddis made his season debut last night, and he’s clearly shaking off some rust here. He should be fine, just don’t expect him to take giant leaps towards being one of those elite or near-elite reliever types.
| St. Louis Cardinals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Justin Bruihl | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
| Gordon Graceffo | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Ryan Fernandez | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 4 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
- Ryan Fernandez is back up, and between him and Gordon Graceffo, there’s probably an opening for a semi-important bullpen role here. Neither is too appealing from a fantasy standpoint, but Ryan Fernandez could be solid with better command.
TEX 8 – ATH 1
| Texas Rangers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Luis Curvelo | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 16% CSW |
- Luis Curvelo’s stuff is a bit disappointing, as it is basically just average across the board here. I thought the slider was supposed to be a legit plus pitch.
| Athletics | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jack Perkins | 1.2 IP | 4 ER | 5 H | 1 BB | 4 K | 12 Whiffs | 44% CSW |
| Luis Medina | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
- Jack Perkins showed us here why so many are still interested in him as a reliever, but also why he hasn’t been able to stick on the MLB roster. As is the case with most young pitchers (relievers especially), the command just isn’t consistent enough.
NYM 0 – LAD 4
| New York Mets | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Craig Kimbrel | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 8% CSW |
| Joey Gerber | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 5 K | 6 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
- Joey Gerber doesn’t have dominating stuff, but it’s maybe slightly above average, so as long as he commands it, he could stick around in this bullpen.
| Los Angeles Dodgers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tanner Scott | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
- Tanner Scott continues his bounce-back tour, and despite zero K’s here, the stuff was great, and he pounded the strike zone.
