Peyton Gray grooved a 2-0 fastball middle into Deluca here, which was really his only mistake of the outing. Outside of that, the fastball looked great here again.

Bryan Baker’s fastball was down 2 MPH again…but still graded out really well so I’m still not concerned (yet).

Yoendrys Gómez’s fastball was up 2.2 MPH here (97.7 vs. 95.5 season avg), which is fun, but he still got hit around a bit facing the bottom of the Royals lineup.

Angel Chivilli continues to impress in his latest stint with the Yankees, and the changeup is doing the heavy lifting, but by all Stuff metric accounts, the changeup is not good. Fascinated to see what his role looks like next week after the deadline.

Seranthony Domínguez has put together four straight scoreless outings, with eight of his last nine outings being of the scoreless variety. That being said, he’s still allowing baserunners at a high rate (5 walks, 5 hits over this 7.2 inning sample), so he’s still likely on the outside looking in for leverage work.

Jacob Webb pitched the ninth in a tie game and got the first out of the 10th before giving way to Civale here (not sure I understand this reasoning, but it worked).

Riley O’Brien’s sinker was down again (97.0 MPH vs. 98.1 season avg), but there’s nothing to complain about with these results. He’s still hanging in there for now.

Emilio Pagán’s fastball looked great once again (up 1.1 MPH, 95.9 vs. 94.8 season avg), and now we just wait and hope he’s still closing out games somewhere next week.

Michael Petersen returned from a brief injury after taking a line drive off his forearm, and at least he looked healthy here…he just got Singled Out (Bichettes double was a groundball down the 1B line, not exactly a hard-hit ball in the gap). Not too worried about this outing.

New York Mets

I doubt the Mets would seriously entertain a Devin Williams trade, but I think they should consider it. Over the past two months, he has a 2.41 ERA…but it does come with a 1.45 WHIP and just a 27% K rate.

WSN 4 – ATL 5

Washington Nationals

I hope the Nationals let Riley Cornelio get some leverage chance soon. He’s right up there with Beeter and Ribalta for me as far as stuff goes in this bullpen.

Atlanta Braves

Raisel Iglesias has been OK over the past couple of months (since June 1st: 3.38 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 25% K), but he doesn’t have any true competition for saves with Robert Suarez on the IL. Dylan Lee is locked into his left-handed setup role, but maybe Didier Fuentes could walk into the closer role if things were to truly unravel for Iglesias?

BOS 5 – ATH 4

Boston Red Sox

Aroldis Chapman had a little extra gas in the tank here, especially for Kurtz, as his sinker touched 100 MPH. Chapman has thrown just 20 pitches this season at 100 MPH or higher (82 at 99+ MPH) after throwing 180 (330 at 99+ MPH) last year.

Athletics

It’s cool to see Luis Medina’s four-seamer up 1.4 MPH (99.0 vs. 97.6 season avg)…but he hung a changeup to Abreu and then a curveball to Contreras on back-to-back pitches to cough up the lead here. Medina’s fastball has always been fine; it’s the off-speed offerings that continue to lag behind.

SFG 4 – SDP 1

San Francisco Giants

Erik Miller has been dominant this month, and that’s now back-to-back saves for him as he appears to clearly be the favorite for saves here moving forward. Assuming he isn’t traded (Giants could choose to sell high), I’m in on Miller finishing the year as the team’s closer as long as his command doesn’t revert to being abysmal.

San Diego Padres

SEA 2 – LAD 6

Seattle Mariners

Teoscar somehow hit a 98 MPH fastball up and out of the zone to right-center for a home run, but that was Alex Hoppe’s only blemish on the night. The velocity was still up in the 99 MPH range here, which is exciting if it can stick.

Los Angeles Dodgers

Pitching on back-to-back nights and not in a save situation, Edwin Díaz’s stuff looked mediocre again. It may take him a while to get back into form, so I’m not panicking yet.
