There have been a handful of good articles that have come out following Friday’s Pride Night disaster by a few San Francisco Giants pitchers. The ones from San Francisco writers seem to hit home a little stronger, at least to me. Check out this one by Grant Brisbee of The Athletic.
Today’s Headlines
White Sox Power Up To Take Series From Dodgers
It might not end well for the Chicago White Sox. On the other hand, maybe it does. Regardless, these White Sox, two seasons from a history 121-loss campaign, got home runs from Colson Montgomery, Sam Antonacci and Chase Meidroth to win a series against the Los Angeles Dodgers with a 6-4 triumph. The White Sox also pulled into a tie for the AL Central lead at 38-32, their fourth win in their last five. Home cooking has been at the center of this White Sox resurgence as they have won eight straight series at Rate Field, including 4-1 vs. Atlanta and the Dodgers, two NL division leaders, this week.
Brewers’ Homers Undue Sanchez
We didn’t get the Jacob Misiorowski–Cristopher Sánchez pitching matchup that would have been so tantalizing as the Milwaukee Brewers host the Philadelphia Phillies this weekend. Instead, Sanchez was paired off against Brewers left-hander Kyle Harrison, who has been on a run almost as good as the Miz has been on. Thanks to a red-hot Jackson Chourio and a timely Blake Perkins, the Brewers were able to solve the unstoppable Sanchez and Harrison did the rest in the Brewers’ 4-0 victory. Harrison tossed six shutout innings, striking out three, and Chourio led off the bottom of the first with a home run, his fifth in five games and third in the last two. Perkins hit his first homer of the season and it was a biggie: a three-run blast off Sanchez in the fourth inning. Perkins is now 6-for-7 in his career vs. Sanchez, who had allowed three runs in his last two starts after not giving up a single run in May. Like Misiorowski in his historic 15-strikeout one-hitter, Harrison and two Crew relievers didn’t allow a single Phillies runner to reach second base.
Skenes’ Funk Continues Despite 10 K’s
Maybe there is a Cy Young Award curse. Whatever is affecting Pittsburgh Pirates ace right-hander Paul Skenes, it has brought the superstar from otherworldly to just above mere mortal. Skenes struck out 10 and had a career-high 23 whiffs, but the Pirates lost to the Miami Marlins 4-2, their sixth straight loss in a game Skenes has started. Heriberto Hernández and Joe Mack hit early solo homers, while Kyle Stowers and Xavier Edwards drove in eighth-inning runs that put this one on ice for the Marlins. Skenes had a 1.98 ERA after his May 12 start, his second consecutive of eight shutout innings, but has allowed 19 runs (15 earned) in those last six outings. He allowed 13 runs (12 earned) in his first nine. The win instead went to Marlins right-hander Max Meyer, who is 7-0 this year, after he punched out nine in six innings.
Rockies Roll To Club Record In Vegas
Playing in Coors Field, the Colorado Rockies are used to an offensive environment. Which goes to show you what the conditions were in the series finale vs. the A’s in a minor-league stadium in Las Vegas. Under the blazing sun that produced 101-degree temperatures, the Rockies blasted six home runs en route to a club record for runs in a 23-9 victory over the A’s. Hunter Goodman hit a pair of homers as part of a five-hit, four-RBI day, Willi Castro also went deep twice, including a grand slam, and drove in seven for the Rockies, who had 24 hits, one shy of the club record. The previous Rockies record for runs was 20, done four times. Castro never had more than three RBIs in a game before his seven-RBI performance.
By The Numbers
10 Tampa Bay Rays slugger Junior Caminero snapped a 10-game homerless drought when he drilled a two-run shot in an 8-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels.
20 San Francisco Giants rookie Bryce Eldridge extended his on-base streak to 20 games with a seventh-inning RBI single, the longest stretch by a Giant since Matt Duffy’s 20-gamer in 2015.
700 Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo won his 700th career game in a 5-3 triumph over the Cincinnati Reds.

Where Did That Pole Come From?
In another case of You Never Know What You Will See At The Ballpark, Atlanta left fielder Mike Yastrzemski was charged with an error when his throw from the left-field corner clanged off a post that holds the protective netting. Two runs scored on the play in the New York Mets‘ 8-1 win.
If It Wasn’t For That Wall …
Atlanta center fielder Michael Harris II almost had a tremendous home run robbery. Almost.
Some Scottish Flair
Not that the Fenway Park bleachers needed to be spiced up, but fans of Scotland, known as the Tartan Army, in Boston for the men’s World Cup, spent the night taking in the Boston Red Sox in their nationally televised game against the Texas Rangers, who won 6-4.

⚾ A day after fracturing his left hamate bone, Cleveland Guardians third baseman José Ramírez was officially placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday.
