AL Central Farm System Report for Dynasty Baseball 2025 1.0

Farm System Report on the American League Central

The division reports debuted last year. The goal of this article series is to provide a quick overview of all dynasty-relevant information from each division. Each team has multiple minor league levels, each containing plenty of impactful prospects, which can feel impossible to keep up with. This article series, which will be updated once per month, will help dynasty managers stay up-to-date on performances, injuries, promotions, and more. New this season is the inclusion of tiers in the rankings. Next to their rank, each prospect is assigned a tier. The tier range is 1-5.

  • Tier 1: A potential difference-making dynasty prospect. Somebody who would rank in the top-20ish prospects for dynasty baseball
  • Tier 2: A still very good dynasty prospect who holds plenty of value. This prospect would typically rank in the 21-75 range
  • Tier 3: A mid-tier prospect who could be valuable but has questions and concerns present in his profile, ranking in the 76-150 range
  • Tier 4: A prospect who is worth knowing, but is reserved for deeper leagues. This prospect would rank 151-250
  • Tier 5: The rest of the prospects fall into Tier 5

Being a Twins fan all my life, you get familiar with the farm systems of your division rivals. While my bias leans toward the Twins having the top farm system in the American League Central, the Chicago White Sox, Cleveland Guardians, and Detroit Tigers still rank among some of the best in baseball. With only the White Sox in rebuild mode, the rest of the teams are all contenders for a wide-open division in 2025, taking their time to use their prospects to their advantage to push for the AL Central title.

AL Central

Chicago White Sox

Top 10 Prospects

Notable Prospect Assignments:

  • Kyle Teel went to Triple-A Charlotte to start the 2025 season, as half of the White Sox’s top 10 will begin their seasons a step away from the Majors. Teel is the top hitting prospect in the White Sox system, coming over from the Red Sox for Garrett Crochet this winter. He crushed at the plate between the Red Sox Double-A and Triple-A affiliates last season, posting a .288/.386/.433 slash line, 13 home runs, 78 RBI, drew 68 walks, and struck out 116 times. He started his 2025 season off hot with the Knights over the weekend, going 6-for-12 with a couple of home runs and 9 RBI as the Knights swept the Gwinnett Stripers, outscoring them 30-11.
  • Braden Montgomery was with Teal in the trade that sent Crochet over to the Red Sox. He has yet to make his pro debut after the Red Sox selected him 12th overall in the 2024 MLB Draft, but with Montgomery receiving a non-roster invite to spring training this year, it appears the White Sox are ready to move him ahead and start him in Low-A this season.

Notable Prospect News:

  • Jairo Itriarte made his season debut on Sunday, getting the start against the Stripers. Itriarte only went four innings as the Stripers tallied seven hits off him through four innings of work. Iriarte still allowed only one walk while striking out four batters in his opening start. The 23-year-old Venezuelan is on the White Sox 40-man roster and could see some time on an MLB mound again after making his MLB debut last year, throwing six innings out of the bullpen while only allowing one earned run.
  • Teel wasn’t the only catcher on the Knights roster tearing up Stripers pitching over the weekend. Edgar Quero also had a nice start to his season at the plate, going 5-for-11 with a double and three walks. While Quero wasn’t a run producer at the plate, his eight times on base helped the Knights get their sweep over the Stripers.

Cleveland Guardians

Top 10 Prospects

Notable Prospect Assignments:

  • The Guardians assigned their number two prospect, Chase DeLauter, to Triple-A early in March as he recovers from a sports hernia that will take eight to 12 weeks to recover from. Cleveland’s number one overall pick from the 2022 draft has only played in 96 games over the last two seasons across all Guardians affiliates. While his combined stats in those 96 games (.317/.387/.517 triple slash, a .904 OPS, 13 home runs, and 63 RBI)  show why Cleveland drafted him 16th overall in 2022, DeLauter hasn’t played in a Minor League game since August 28, 2024. If all goes well in his recovery and rehab, the Clippers could expect to see DeLauter in their lineup by mid-May.
  • The number one overall pick from the 2024 MLB Draft is already climbing the ranks quickly, as the Guardians have assigned Travis Bazanna to Double-A Akron to start his 2025 season. Bazanna went straight to High-A Lake Country after the draft last season and posted a .238/.369/.396 slash line with three home runs and 12 RBI. While the hits didn’t amount to much with just 24 in 101 at-bats, Bazanna drew 17 walks to get his on-base percentage as high as .369 and demonstrated his patient eye at the plate.

Notable Prospect News:

  • Juan Brito started the 2025 season with the Columbus Clippers on fire as the 23-year-old utility infielder posted a .417 /.429/.667 triple slash with three doubles and three RBI. Despite a poor performance in Major League camp (.177/.222/.529 slash line) this spring training, the Guardians still have high hopes for Brito’s future and how he can fit into their infield plans as the 2025 season progresses.
  • After making his first Opening Day roster, the Guardians used Joey Cantillo out of the bullpen once during their opening series in Kansas City this past weekend. Cantillo faced some hiccups against the Royals hitters on Sunday. Following a scoreless seventh inning where he allowed only one base runner on a Makiel Garcia double, the Royals caused trouble for Cantillo in his second inning of work. Cantillo allowed all four hitters he faced to reach on an error, two singles, and a walk. Fortunately, the runs went unearned against Cantillo as the Guardians held on to win 6-2.

Detroit Tigers

Top 10 Prospects

Notable Prospect Assignments:

  • Once Jackson Jobe throws 50 innings in the Majors and graduates off the prospect list, Max Clark will take the mantle as the Tigers’ top prospect. The fourth overall pick from the 2023 MLB Draft will be starting his 2025 season in High-A West Michigan. Clark is coming off an impressive first full season in pro-ball, playing in 107 games between Low-A and High-A, putting together a combined .279/.372/.421 slash line with nine home runs, 75 RBI, 61 walks, and 94 strikeouts. Clark is still working on developing his power tool in the Minors, but he will be one of many prospects across Minor League Baseball that fans will be tracking to see if he can progress from High-A to Triple-A before the season is over.
  • Jaden Hamm pitched at High-A for the entire 2024 season and put up a solid performance. He pitched to a 2.64 ERA over 99 innings of work in 23 starts, striking out 30.6% of batters while only walking 7.8%. Hamm, 22, will be starting his season at High-A once again, but if he can quickly replicate the performances he had in High-A over the first month of the season. He will quickly find his way to Double-A before Memorial Day weekend.

Notable Prospect News:

  • Jobe is set to make his 2025 season debut against the Mariners in Seattle Monday night. Jobe will go up against Emerson Hancock and a Mariners lineup that went 20-for-114 (.175 batting average and a .554 OPS) during their opening series against the Athletics. Jobe only appeared in two games with the Tigers out of the bullpen in September, holding hitters to four scoreless innings and allowing only one hit while striking out two. The top pitching prospect in baseball will now have the stage set for him to show why he’s been one of the most anticipated starter debuts people have been wanting to see for the 2025 season.
  • Jace Jung, who was optioned to Triple-A on March 17, went 3-for-9 for the Toledo Mudhens in their first three games of the season. Jung also hit a home run and drew four walks against the Columbus Clippers as the Mudhens dropped two of three to open the season.

Kansas City Royals

Top 10 Prospects

Notable Prospect Assignments:

  • The Royals have only one of their top 10 prospects in Triple-A to start the 2025 season, with Noah Cameron. Cameron split his 2024 season between Double-A and Triple-A, pitching to a combined 3.08 ERA in 128 2/3 innings across 25 starts while also striking out 27.8% of batters and walking only 6.7%. Cameron will be turning 26 in July and is older than most other prospects on these lists. The Royals’ rotation depth is still plenty at the Major League level, even with Alec Marsh and Kyle Wright both on the injured list to start the season. However, neither of them is expected to begin rehab assignments until late April, so if anyone else goes down with an injury before then, Cameron would be the first man up from the Minors to fill in any open spot in their rotation.

Notable Prospect News:

  • Both of the Royals’ top two prospects, Jac Caglianone and Blake Mitchell, will be starting their 2025 seasons in High-A Quad Cities. Caglianone played in just 28 games while Mitchell had a sample size of five with the River Bandits in 2024. Their performances at the plate weren’t eye-popping off their stat page, as Caglianone had a .241/.302/.388 slash line with 26 strikeouts and seven walks over 116 at-bats, while Mitchell went 2-for-18 in his five games with the team. Both Caglianone and Mitchell still have high hopes from the Royals organization and will be taking their time to rise up the ranks of the Royals affiliates as the 2025 season goes on.

Minnesota Twins

Top 10 Prospects

Notable Prospect Assignments:

  • Luke Keaschall is starting the season at Triple-A St. Paul following his first spring training in Big League camp. Keaschall hasn’t played since early August 2024, as he underwent Tommy John surgery on August 10 and was shut down for the season. Despite that, he still won Twins Minor League Hitter of the Year in 2024 with a .303/.420/.483 triple slash, 15 home runs, 48 RBI, and 23 stolen bases between High-A Cedar Rapids and Double-A Wichita. Keaschall will be on an innings limit in the field early in the season as the Twins still want him to build up his arm strength at second base, but whenever he is the DH for a game, he will stay in for all nine innings. If all goes well for him with his health and at the plate, there’s no reason to believe he won’t make his MLB debut by Memorial Day with the Twins.
  • Four of the Twins’ top five pitching prospects are a part of the Saints’ Opening Day rotation alongside recently graduated prospect David Festa. While Festa was the only one to get the start Opening weekend as the St. Paul Saints had their Saturday and Sunday games postponed due to rain, Andrew Morris, Zebby Matthews, Marco Raya, and Cory Lewis will all get at least one start in their first full series of the season on the road against the Columbus Clippers.
  • Connor Prielipp will be starting his 2025 season where he left off in Double-A Wichita’s rotation. After missing almost all of the 2023 Minor League season due to UCL surgery, Prielipp made nine starts between the FCL, Low-A Ft Myers, and High-A Cedar Rapids, accumulating a 2.70 ERA, 41 strikeouts, and just seven walks in 23 1/3 innings. The 2022 second-round pick by the Twins will still be on a pitch count limit throughout April to build up his arm strength and ensure his fragile arm isn’t overworked for the full season. If all goes well in his performance, there is a possibility of Prielipp shifting to a relief role in Triple-A to help reinforce the Twins’ left-handed reliever depth at the Major League level.

Notable Prospect News:

  • Emmanuel Rodriguez went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI on Friday during the Saints’ Opening Game of the season. Rodriguez was originally in the lineup for Saturday’s game, but he was scratched from the DH spot before the first pitch when he jammed his left thumb the night before. The Saints were postponed on Saturday and Sunday due to rain and snow in Minnesota, which worked to Rodriguez’s benefit as he was considered day-to-day after being scratched from Saturday’s lineup.
