Welcome to the RP Roundup, my daily fantasy baseball article reviewing every reliever performance from the previous day.
SEA 6 – BAL 3
| Seattle Mariners | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cooper Criswell | 1.1 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Matt Brash – HLD (6) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Eduard Bazardo | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 11% CSW |
| Andrés Muñoz – SV (10) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
- Andrés Muñoz bounced back here, throwing 16 sliders in this 20-pitch outing (plus 2 changeups), although the command wasn’t exactly perfect (6/20 pitches in the zone).
| Baltimore Orioles | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Anthony Nunez | 2.1 IP | 2 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Albert Suárez | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 9 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
- Another tough outing for Anthony Nunez and while theres some bad luck involved with his recent struggles, I still wonder if a AAA stint to reset could be beneficial. Over his past 19 innings, Nunez has an 8.05 ERA and 1.68 WHIP. He’ll figure things out eventually, the stuffs too good.
BOS 1 – TBR 3
| Boston Red Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tyron Guerrero | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 44% CSW |
| Greg Weissert | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Danny Coulombe | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
| Alec Gamboa | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
- I’d like to see more of Alec Gamboa who was throwing in the 96 MPH range here with 20.7″ of iVB. I don’t think thats the norm for Gamboa, but at least we know it’s in there. I’d rather the Red Sox DFA Coulombe if it means we get to see more of Gamboa for now.
| Tampa Bay Rays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Casey Legumina – W (2) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Cam Booser – HLD (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| Kevin Kelly – HLD (13) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| Garrett Cleavinger – HLD (8) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Bryan Baker – SV (17) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- Bryan Baker had a light week last week and came back here throwing 98+ MPH with some of the best stuff we’ve seen from him this season. No sliders here despite facing two righties, but the fastball/changeup combo is good enough most nights.
NYY 7 – CLE 5
| New York Yankees | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brent Headrick | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Paul Blackburn – BS (1) | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Ryan Yarbrough | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Jake Bird | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 47% CSW |
| Camilo Doval | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Tim Hill | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 10% CSW |
| David Bednar – W (2) | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 4 Whiffs | 37% CSW |
- David Bednar led heavily with his splitter here, throwing it 17 times, compared to just 9 fastballs and only one curveball. The command was not great (he was lucky with some of these pitches), but it solidifies this new splitter-heavy approach from Bednar.

| Cleveland Guardians | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Colin Holderman | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Tim Herrin – HLD (10) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| Hunter Gaddis – BS (2) | 0.1 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Cade Smith | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 41% CSW |
| Shawn Armstrong – L (1) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
- Hunter Gaddis was actually throwing harder here, but that changeup/fastball combo to lefties is not exactly elite. In fact, Gaddis has really struggled against lefties this season with a 2.81 WHIP and 1.090 OPS against. They may need to shield him from lefties moving forward.
PHI 5 – TOR 2
| Philadelphia Phillies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brad Keller – HLD (12) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 15% CSW |
| Jhoan Duran – SV (16) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 11% CSW |
- Brad Keller didn’t allow a run despite the two baserunners here, and he’s been more or less fine for the Phillies this season, but I’m not sure he’s the best eighth-inning option for this team. He’s maybe been the worst reliever in this bullpen outside of Banks since the start of May.
| Toronto Blue Jays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Adam Macko | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
| Simeon Woods Richardson | 4.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 6 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Tommy Nance | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 45% CSW |
- Great to see Tommy Nance back, although the velocity was down over a MPH, but those breakers looked great as they usually do.
HOU 5 – LAA 4
| Houston Astros | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Enyel De Los Santos | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Bryan King | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Josh Hader – W (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
| Bryan Abreu – SV (4) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
- Bryan Abreu didn’t even throw his new cutter here, but the fastball velocity looked better, and he was around the zone at least. I’m still skeptical, but he’ll likely be back on the holds list this week at least.
| Los Angeles Angels | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Samy Natera Jr. | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 44% CSW |
| Ryan Zeferjahn | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Sam Bachman – HLD (11) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Kirby Yates – BS (2) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 5 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Sam Aldegheri – L (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
- Kirby Yates started things off with a leadoff walk, which was obviously going to lead to a blown save. The fastball velocity is starting to creep up, at least for Yates, and the stuff is not nearly as bad as it looked in his first few outings. The fastball still is not great, and he can’t throw his splitter for strikes, so that fastball is really vulnerable right now.
CIN 2 – SDP 6
| Cincinnati Reds | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tejay Antone | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 15% CSW |
| Zach McCambley | 1.0 IP | 3 ER | 4 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| San Diego Padres | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bradgley Rodriguez | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Adrian Morejon – W (5) | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 8% CSW |
| Jason Adam – HLD (14) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 8 Whiffs | 56% CSW |
| Mason Miller | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 2 Whiffs | 37% CSW |
- That’s more like the Jason Adam we’ve been used to the past couple of years. Granted, he faced some big-time swing and miss bats (Suarez, Marte, Stephenson), but the stuff looked great.
WSN 4 – SFG 3
| Washington Nationals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Miles Mikolas | 4.2 IP | 0 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Mitchell Parker – BS (4) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 5 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Clayton Beeter – W (2) | 1.1 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 6% CSW |
| Gus Varland – SV (5) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
- Clayton Beeter’s fastball is still way down (94 MPH), and obviously, the command is bad, but the stuff just isn’t there anymore either. I guess we are back to Gus Varland in the closer role (or maybe Brad Lord, perhaps Orlando Ribalta, or could it eventually be Riley Cornelio? Let’s not leave out Paxton Schultz either).
| San Francisco Giants | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Keaton Winn – L (2) | 0.2 IP | 3 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Dylan Smith | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 67% CSW |
- Keaton Winn probably should not have been pitching for the third day in a row here, but it’s not like the stuff was way down for him here. I’m just not sure he’s that good, and at this point, I’d be intrigued with elevating Dylan Smith into the closer role. That being said, this feels like a similar situation to the Nationals, just with slightly better options.
MIL 15 – ATH 14
| Milwaukee Brewers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Grant Anderson | 2.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 4 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Joel Kuhnel | 1.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 4 K | 4 Whiffs | 60% CSW |
| Drew Rom | 1.1 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Aaron Ashby | 1.2 IP | 3 ER | 4 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 4 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Abner Uribe – W (4) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 47% CSW |
| Chad Patrick – SV (3) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
- I’m not sure we can have any real takeaways from whatever this game was (the A’s play in Vegas all week, so that should be fun), but we obviously need to talk about Joel Kuhnel cause what happened here? Obviously, there is some revenge game factor at play, but seeing him throw 5 MPH harder in his first game with the Brewers is just wild. I don’t think Kuhnel is all of a sudden going to be a 99-100 MPH guy, but I guess we should monitor just to make sure that isn’t the case?
| Athletics | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Luis Medina – HLD (3) | 1.2 IP | 2 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 34% CSW |
| Justin Sterner – HLD (11) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
| Mark Leiter Jr. Jr. – HLD (4) | 0.1 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Hogan Harris – BS (2) | 1.2 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 4 Whiffs | 34% CSW |
| Scott Barlow | 1.0 IP | 3 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 39% CSW |
| José Suarez – L (2) | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 4 K | 4 Whiffs | 41% CSW |
- Again, it’s really hard to take anything seriously from this game, given the stadium circumstances. I just hope none of you have A’s pitchers in your lineup this week.
