Welcome to the RP Roundup, my daily fantasy baseball article reviewing every reliever performance from the previous day.
CHW 4 – DET 3
| Chicago White Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jordan Hicks – W (2) | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 4 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Grant Taylor – HLD (10) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 45% CSW |
| Bryan Hudson – SV (5) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
- Jordan Hicks — Sinker up 0.9 MPH (99.9 vs. 99.0 season avg). 0.95 ERA, 0.79 WHIP, 38.4% K rate over 19 IP since returning from the IL in June.
- Grant Taylor — Four-Seamer down 1.6 MPH (96.5 vs. 98.1 season avg). The breakers still make the stuff A- worthy. Taylor hasn’t allowed an earned run since the All-Star break but holds just a 19% K-BB rate as the fastball velocity remains down.
- Bryan Hudson — Four-Seamer down 1.2 MPH (90.8 vs. 92.0 season avg). Got the job done.
| Detroit Tigers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Drew Sommers – L (3) | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 4 K | 6 Whiffs | 48% CSW |
| Kyle Finnegan | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Tanner Rainey | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
- The fastball looks pretty good from Tanner Rainey, but we need to see some sort of secondary and consistent command before taking this too seriously.
STL 8 – CHC 4
| St. Louis Cardinals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Justin Bruihl | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 13% CSW |
| Ryne Stanek | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 15% CSW |
| Riley O’Brien | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
- Riley O’Brien — Sinker down 1.0 MPH (97.0 vs. 98.0 season avg). Zero strikeouts from this relief unit and just 1 Whiff each. At least O’Brien was able to throw the sinker over the plate.
| Chicago Cubs | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Trent Thornton | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
| Caleb Thielbar | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
| Colin Rea | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
- Caleb Thielbar — Four-Seamer up 1.7 MPH (95.0 vs. 93.3 season avg). It was only one fastball, but still nice to see he has that in the tank if needed.
- Colin Rea — Sinker up 1.4 MPH (93.9 vs. 92.5 season avg). Stuff looks better out of the pen (and he was actually able to get Báez out).
NYY 1 – TOR 4
| New York Yankees | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brent Headrick – L (2) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 15% CSW |
| Paul Blackburn | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Tim Hill | 0.2 IP | 2 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 15% CSW |
| Yerry De los Santos | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
- Paul Blackburn — Sinker usage 58% (+26 pts vs. 32% usual)
- Yerry De los Santos — Sinker down 1.0 MPH (94.5 vs. 95.5 season avg)
- The whole bullpen is an issue, but Brent Headrick had been one of the steady leverage relievers Boone can count on. McAdoo somehow launched a fastball up and away off the top of the left field wall here for a double, with a bloop single and bunt single bookending it.
| Toronto Blue Jays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Braydon Fisher | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Ricky Tiedemann | 1.2 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Simeon Woods Richardson | 2.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Mason Fluharty | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 11% CSW |
| Spencer Miles – W (5) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Tyler Rogers – HLD (26) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| Louis Varland – SV (28) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 6 Whiffs | 69% CSW |
- Ricky Tiedemann made his long-awaited debut here, as a reliever, and I see the hype. The sweeper can be really good, and the fastball is above average (mixed in a decent changeup too). I hope he sticks around now, whether as a starter or reliever he can help out the big club.
- Louis Varland — Four-Seamer up 0.9 MPH (99.6 vs. 98.7 season avg). I had a minor complaint regarding Varland not striking out batters as of late yesterday. He then goes out and strikes out the 2-3-4 hitters in the Yankees lineup in order here.
COL 1 – SFG 7
| San Francisco Giants | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Carson Seymour | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 7 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Dylan Smith | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
- Carson Seymour — Four-Seamer up 1.3 MPH (97.8 vs. 96.5 season avg). The command is still dicey, but there could be something here with his deep arsenal.
- Dylan Smith — Four-Seamer usage 90% (+42 pts vs. 48% usual); Sweeper usage 0% (-33 pts vs. 33% usual). Just filled up the zone with his fastball, with the team up 6 runs and Smith needing some work.
WSN 4 – NYM 5
| Washington Nationals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brad Lord | 0.2 IP | 2 ER | 1 H | 4 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 18% CSW |
| Tom Cosgrove – HLD (3) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Orlando Ribalta – HLD (11) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Clayton Beeter – HLD (6) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
| Yovanny Cruz – L (1) | 0.1 IP | 2 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
- Why is the best reliever in this bullpen facing the 8-9-1 part of the lineup in the seventh inning?
| New York Mets | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dedniel Núñez | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Jefry Yan – W (1) | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 3 Whiffs | 45% CSW |
- The command wasn’t perfect for Jefry Yan here, but it was good enough to produce this line with no walks. The stuff can be soo good; he just has no idea where anything’s going still.
BAL 4 – TBR 3
| Baltimore Orioles | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alex Hoppe – HLD (3) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Josh Walker – HLD (2) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Rico Garcia – HLD (15) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Andrew Kittredge – W (2) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 3 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Cam Sanders – SV (3) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
- I know it was the tenth inning here, but that is back-to-back saves for the Colonel Cam Sanders. Especially consider Kittredge blew the save here and how bad Cano looked on Friday…maybe the closer role could open up to someone like Sanders? The fastball can be great, so we at least have that baseline. Is the slider a good enough secondary?
| Tampa Bay Rays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Casey Legumina | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 4 K | 5 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
| Cam Booser | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Bryan Baker – L (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 41% CSW |
- Bryan Baker — Four-Seamer down 0.8 MPH (95.9 vs. 96.7 season avg). Fastball is still down a bit, and both hits came off the pitch here. I still think he’ll be fine for the remainder of the season, but it’d be nice to see that fastball back to normal.
MIA 8 – CIN 4
| Miami Marlins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Calvin Faucher | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Tyler Zuber – W (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Michael Petersen – HLD (20) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
| Pete Fairbanks | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 6 Whiffs | 69% CSW |
- Tyler Zuber — Four-Seamer up 1.0 MPH (96.3 vs. 95.3 season avg)
- Michael Petersen — Four-Seamer up 0.9 MPH (98.8 vs. 97.9 season avg). This looks like the current leverage order for the Marlins, and hopefully we can see Petersen a bit more consistently in the 8th to pick up more holds.
| Cincinnati Reds | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Luis Mey – HLD (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Tejay Antone – L (1) | 0.1 IP | 3 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Sam Moll | 0.1 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Pierce Johnson | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Ron Marinaccio | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
- Tejay Antone — Four-Seamer up 0.8 MPH (96.0 vs. 95.2 season avg). Good to see the vel- oh no. Antone hit two batters with his sweeper and allowed a single on a sinker he left over the middle of the plate. Moll then came in and allowed a walk and two singles to make things worse. Let’s see more Luis Mey, please?
SDP 1 – CLE 6
| San Diego Padres | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wandy Peralta | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Kyle Hart – L (3) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 45% CSW |
| Griffin Canning | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
- Griffin Canning — Four-Seamer usage 0% (-26 pts vs. 26% usual); Slider usage 50% (+26 pts vs. 24% usual). The slider’s his best pitch, so I get it.
| Cleveland Guardians | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Colin Holderman – HLD (10) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Hunter Gaddis – HLD (24) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 44% CSW |
| Erik Sabrowski | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
- Hunter Gaddis — Slider usage 73% (+26 pts vs. 48% usual). Gaddis entered for Holderman, who was dealing with an injury, and while I’m not sure this 73% slider approach can work forever, throwing just one fastball on 15 pitches certainly worked here.
- Another positive outing from Erik Sabrowski here…
SEA 10 – HOU 5
| Seattle Mariners | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| José A. Ferrer | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Seranthony Domínguez | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- This bullpen continues to have its issues, but at least they had a comfortable lead here.
| Houston Astros | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bryan King | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- Bryan King — Four-Seamer up 0.8 MPH (92.8 vs. 92.0 season avg); Sinker usage 38% (+27 pts vs. 10% usual). Better. The Astros may need to turn back to King if Okert’s velocity continues to drop.
PHI 9 – MIN 1
| Philadelphia Phillies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alex McFarlane | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 41% CSW |
| Chase Shugart | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 1 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- Alex McFarlane looked really really good here, and a few more outings like this could have him working in leverage.

- Chase Shugart — Sinker down 0.9 MPH (94.3 vs. 95.2 season avg). Sure.
| Minnesota Twins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kody Funderburk | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Andrew Morris | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| A.J. Minter | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Jeff Hoffman | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 18% CSW |
- A.J. Minter — Four-Seamer up 1.4 MPH (94.5 vs. 93.1 season avg). Keep sitting in the 94+ MPH range Minter.
BOS 4 – PIT 0
| Boston Red Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Erik Miller – HLD (11) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 55% CSW |
| Aroldis Chapman | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 1 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- Aroldis Chapman threw five splitters and two sliders here on 15 total pitches as he tries to make up for the velocity loss in his fastballs.
| Pittsburgh Pirates | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wilber Dotel | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Gregory Soto | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Luke Weaver | 1.0 IP | 3 ER | 4 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 6 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
- Wilber Dotel — Four-Seamer up 0.9 MPH (99.1 vs. 98.2 season avg). Good to see the fastball up over 99 MPH, but what else are we working with?
- I talked about Luke Weaver’s velocity being a big difference maker for him yesterday. When he’s over 95.3 MPH, he’s really good. He was at 95 MPH here…
ARI 10 – ATL 3
| Arizona Diamondbacks | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jonathan Loáisiga | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 11% CSW |
| Kevin Ginkel | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Philip Abner | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
- No K’s or Whiffs from Loáisiga or Ginkel here? When Martinez returns, it should be hard for these two to see consistent hold chances.
| Atlanta Braves | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Victor Mederos | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Brent Suter | 3.0 IP | 1 ER | 4 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Danny Young | 1.0 IP | 3 ER | 2 H | 2 BB | 3 K | 4 Whiffs | 41% CSW |
- Victor Mederos — Four-Seamer down 1.1 MPH (95.9 vs. 97.0 season avg). Decreased velocity but increased command, so we’ll take it for now.
MIL 4 – LAD 1
| Milwaukee Brewers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Antonio Senzatela – HLD (7) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Aaron Ashby – SV (1) | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 39% CSW |
- Antonio Senzatela — Sinker up 1.0 MPH (97.4 vs. 96.4 season avg); Four-Seamer usage 0% (-39 pts vs. 39% usual); Sinker usage 42% (+30 pts vs. 12% usual). I guess.
| Los Angeles Dodgers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jonathan Hernández | 3.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 4 K | 8 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
- He won’t be around when this bullpen gets healthy.
KCR 0 – LAA 1
| Kansas City Royals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Craig Kimbrel | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Nate Pearson – L (1) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 10% CSW |
- Nate Pearson gave up a walk, stolen base, and a single here, and that’s all it took to be saddled with the loss.
| Los Angeles Angels | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ben Joyce – SV (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 46% CSW |
- Ben Joyce — Four-Seamer up 1.0 MPH (102.6 vs. 101.6 season avg). I’d like to see him be able to locate one of his secondaries a bit more consistently, but the fastball is so good right now, it may not matter for a while.
TEX 5 – ATH 3
| Texas Rangers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chase Silseth – HLD (11) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
| Jakob Junis – HLD (15) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Jacob Latz – SV (24) | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
- Welcome back Jakob Junis. He needed just 6 pitches here to get through this inning.
| Athletics | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brady Basso | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 15% CSW |
| Scott Blewett | 1.1 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
- Blegh.
