Welcome to the RP Roundup, my daily fantasy baseball article reviewing every reliever performance from the previous day.
CIN 1 – MIA 8
| Cincinnati Reds | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brock Burke | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 62% CSW |
| Jose Franco | 2.0 IP | 2 ER | 4 H | 3 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
- Brock Burke continues to shine with his new team and currently has a ridiculous 47.1% Whiff rate on the year. That won’t last (his fastball rate is 53%), but this is still the best we’ve seen him, and even in a deep bullpen, he should get plenty of hold chances being the top lefty.
| Miami Marlins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Anthony Bender (HLD) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 42% CSW |
| Tyler Phillips (SV) | 3.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 4 K | 9 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
- Tyler Phillips got himself a 3-inning save here, showcasing his deep arsenal with plus breakers and good enough fastballs. This bullpen is very deep, especially from the right side, so it may be tough for guys like Phillips to find consistent save or hold chances.
ATH 1 – NYY 0
| Athletics | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Justin Sterner (HLD) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Hogan Harris (SV) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
- Hogan Harris with another A stuff, but middling command outing here, although it did not affect the outcome. I don’t think this one save plugs him into the closer role moving forward (he faced three lefties).
| New York Yankees | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Paul Blackburn | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 16% CSW |
- Paul Blackburn has a pretty good cutter and kind of profiles as a poor man’s Calvin Faucher, maybe? He shouldn’t be in the mix for many holds in New York, though, unless something goes really wrong in that bullpen.
DET 1 – MIN 3
| Detroit Tigers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tyler Holton | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Will Vest (L) | 0.2 IP | 2 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 7 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
| Brant Hurter | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
- Will Vest continues to have issues this season, and his velo was down 3 MPH in this one (it’s cold, I know). The slider and changeup (to a lesser degree) still look good, but the fastball is vulnerable right now.
| Minnesota Twins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Garrett Acton (W) | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 6 Whiffs | 37% CSW |
| Eric Orze (SV) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
- Eric Orze showed a more even pitch mix here with 6 splitters, 5 fastballs, and 3 sliders, and that ratio feels about right to me. The fastball velocity doesn’t scream “closer” in the traditional sense, but 7.3′ of extension with 18″+ of iVB have it play up. He was at 94 MPH the past two season, which with these metrics would be fantastic, and maybe the cold is keeping his fastball down at 92 MPH right now. The Twins will likely use different people in the ninth, but if I had to roster one guy here, it’s still Orze.
ARI 7 – NYM 1
| Arizona Diamondbacks | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Taylor Clarke (HLD) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Taylor Rashi | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 9 Whiffs | 52% CSW |
- Taylor Rashi can spin it a little, but he’s not worth chasing still.
| New York Mets | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Luke Weaver (BS) | 0.2 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 3 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Luis García Jr. | 0.1 IP | 3 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| Richard Lovelady | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- Luke Weaver had no command in this one and his velo was down (cold). I’m not overly concerned here and think he’ll be fine as things warm up.
CHW 2 – KCR 0
| Chicago White Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Grant Taylor (HLD) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Jordan Leasure (HLD) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 6 Whiffs | 39% CSW |
| Seranthony Domínguez (SV) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
- Good to see Grant Taylor back in a more traditional role, and he showcased his A+ stuff here despite middling command. Obviously, the guy’s fastball is legit, but his curveball is just crazy.
- Jordan Leasure also had A+ stuff in this one, but no command, which luckily didn’t hurt him here. His fastball was at 96 MPH with over 20″ iVB though, so that’s exciting.
- Seranthony Domínguez was more or less his normal self with a B stuff/F location mix, as he had no fastball command, but it’s good to see him throwing 98 MPH.
| Kansas City Royals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| John Schreiber | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Eli Morgan | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- Eli Morgan changeups are back and ultimately not that interesting, unfortunately.
COL 3 – SDP 7
| Colorado Rockies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chase Dollander | 4.1 IP | 1 ER | 4 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 14 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Jaden Hill | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 42% CSW |
| Juan Mejia | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Victor Vodnik | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 4 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| Brennan Bernardino (BS) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Valente Bellozo (L) | 0.1 IP | 3 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
- Victor Vodnik had no fastball command in this one, and he is one of those Rockies pitchers who have better home splits. This is why rostering Rockies pitchers is so frustrating.
| San Diego Padres | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bradgley Rodriguez | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Adrian Morejon | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 9% CSW |
| Mason Miller | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 7 Whiffs | 80% CSW |
| Jeremiah Estrada | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| David Morgan (W) | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 18% CSW |
- At this point, I think Bradgley Rodriguez (the changeup is cooking right now) should be seeing Jeremiah Estrada’s usage, as he’s clearly in a better place right now than Estrada. Jason Adam will be back soon, so it may not matter much, but the Padres need to figure out Estrada regardless, because this isn’t him.
