Welcome to the RP Roundup, my daily fantasy baseball article reviewing every reliever performance from the previous day.
MIA 1 – TOR 2
| Miami Marlins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Michael Petersen | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 13% CSW |
| Andrew Nardi – L (3) | 1.1 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| John King | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Pete Fairbanks | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
- Andrew Nardi threw one changeup here, it was on a 1-0 count to Okamoto, and Nardi just left it up in the zone. I don’t mind him mixing that changeup into righties every now and then as he did here, but he has no command over the pitch.
| Toronto Blue Jays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mason Fluharty | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 15% CSW |
| Jeff Hoffman – W (3) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 6 Whiffs | 48% CSW |
| Louis Varland – HLD (4) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Tyler Rogers – SV (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
- We saw Louis Varland get the eighth inning here (becoming a Wednesday theme for him) against the top of the Marlins lineup, and he looked great despite the bloop single to lead things off. Jeff Hoffman looked great, too, but it was Tyler Rogers who was available for the ninth here and who finished things off. This may have been more about putting Rogers in a position to succeed (he’s struggled lately, got a pair of righties to open the ninth), more than anything else.
WSN 2 – CLE 3
| Washington Nationals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Miles Mikolas – L (4) | 3.2 IP | 0 ER | 5 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Richard Lovelady | 0.1 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Orlando Ribalta | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 3 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
| Clayton Beeter | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 18% CSW |
| Gus Varland | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
- This bullpen is beyond annoying. Shame on me for thinking Richard Lovelady may actually have a chance at seeing consistent save chances. Clayton Beeters velo is down 2.5 MPH still, so I don’t know if he’s actually healthy here.
| Cleveland Guardians | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tim Herrin – HLD (6) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
| Cade Smith – SV (19) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
- Great job by Tim Herrin here, who will now be asked to assume that Erik Sabrowski role. He’s not nearly as dominant, but that slider is really tough on left-handed hitters.
STL 1 – MIL 2
| St. Louis Cardinals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| JoJo Romero – BS (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
- Blown saves are a dumb stat because JoJo Romero does not deserve one for this outing. He came in with no outs and runners on first and third with a 1-run lead and got two quick outs without allowing that runner on third to score. He then gave up a single, and an error by Winn led to a second run scoring.
| Milwaukee Brewers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shane Drohan | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
| Aaron Ashby – W (9) | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Trevor Megill – SV (6) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
- Trevor Megill got the call in the ninth (Abner Uribe in this spot could have been fun though) and looked fine here. The “single” was a groundball up the middle, in which the 2B and SS ran into each other trying to field it, but the Torres flyout was probably a pitch Megill got away with, as that fastball was grooved (probably up in the zone just enough) and Torres just missed it. Megill finished things off with a 100.1 MPH fastball, so it’s great seeing that velocity coming back to him.
SEA 9 – ATH 1
| Seattle Mariners | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eduard Bazardo | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Cooper Criswell | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
- Meh, I had higher hopes for Eduard Bazardo this year, but he’s looked fairly mediocre.
| Athletics | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Joel Kuhnel | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
| Luis Medina | 2.0 IP | 3 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 6 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| José Suarez | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
- Joel Kuhnel’s new five-pitch mix is not good enough to mask the terrible fastball.
ARI 3 – SFG 2
| Arizona Diamondbacks | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ryan Thompson – HLD (5) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Brandyn Garcia – HLD (4) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Kevin Ginkel – HLD (4) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Paul Sewald – SV (14) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
- The Diamondbacks didn’t use Juan Morillo here as he’s still dealing with something (also, no Taylor Clarke), so we got Kevin Ginkel in the eighth inning, and that almost backfired (I realize the “double” that started things hit Waldschmidt in the face), but the Giants got the tying run thrown out at home, with Ginkel eventually picking Arraez off at 2B to end the inning.
| San Francisco Giants | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Matt Gage | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
| Caleb Kilian | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
- Caleb Kilian did not have his best command here (6/19 pitches in the zone), but made things work for two solid innings. He’s by no means perfect, but he’s the best closer option this bullpen has at the moment.
PHI 3 – SDP 0
| Philadelphia Phillies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jonathan Bowlan – HLD (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| José Alvarado – SV (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
- José Alvarado made his first appearance in a week, and it looks like the time off served him well as the stuff was up here, with his sinker sitting around 99 MPH and the cutter around 93 MPH. Hopefully, he can build off this.
| San Diego Padres | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Adrian Morejon | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 15% CSW |
| Jeremiah Estrada | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Jason Adam | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Ron Marinaccio | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
- Only one strikeout and 3 whiffs from this group is surprising, and we can just chalk it up to a bad day.
TBR 2 – BAL 11
| Tampa Bay Rays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hunter Bigge | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Jonathan Heasley | 4.0 IP | 5 ER | 8 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
- Hunter Bigge has great stuff, that’s why he’s still kicking around this Rays bullpen, but the command has been a major issue for him. It was better here, but we still have a ways to go.
| Baltimore Orioles | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Keegan Akin | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 9% CSW |
| Yennier Cano | 0.0 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 8% CSW |
| Andrew Kittredge | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 4 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Anthony Nunez | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
- Yennier Cano left with a hamstring injury here, which would be a big loss for this team that has gotten inconsistent reliever outings lately. Andrew Kittredge’s line is deceiving here as he didn’t look as dominant as that line suggests.
LAA 0 – DET 4
| Detroit Tigers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Drew Anderson – W (2) | 3.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 3 Whiffs | 34% CSW |
| Kyle Finnegan | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 12% CSW |
| Kenley Jansen | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 11% CSW |
| Brenan Hanifee | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
- The big news here is that Kenley Jansen left with a groin injury, and while we don’t have word on the MRI results yet, it doesn’t sound like he can pitch through it. If Jansen does wind up on the IL, are the Tigers really stuck choosing between Will Vest or Kyle Finnegan as the interim closer? That wouldn’t have been an issue back in March, but both guys have been struggling this season. Vest is the best option of the two right now, but if Jansen’s injury were to keep him out for an extended period of time (say it’s a grade 2 or 3 strain), I’d be interested in seeing Drew Anderson get some consideration.
CHC 10 – PIT 4
| Chicago Cubs | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jacob Webb – W (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 47% CSW |
| Phil Maton | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Caleb Thielbar | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 18% CSW |
| Ethan Roberts | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 13% CSW |
- Jacob Webb is legit, y’all. I bet the Rangers sure wish they had kept him around for $2 mil. He’s throwing his sweeper less and a traditional curveball more, and it’s working for him.
| Pittsburgh Pirates | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Evan Sisk | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 18% CSW |
| Yohan Ramírez – L (2) | 0.1 IP | 4 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 13% CSW |
| Justin Lawrence | 1.2 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 2 BB | 3 K | 3 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Dennis Santana | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
- Yohan Ramírez is leading the league in HBP’s with seven, which may not hurt his WHIP, but it certainly isn’t helping keep that ERA down. The control and command are still an issue for Yohan, as when he is in the zone, he’ll leave fastballs middle middle or hang sweepers over the plate to lefties. Maybe one day he can harness his incredible stuff.
ATL 0 – BOS 8
| Atlanta Braves | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dylan Dodd | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 10% CSW |
| Carlos Carrasco | 4.0 IP | 2 ER | 5 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 6 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
- Dylan Dodd didn’t have his best stuff here, but he’s still someone who should be on your radar in deeper leagues.
| Boston Red Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ryan Watson | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 5 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
- Ryan Watson has been pitching better lately, but he’s still not someone I’d trust in any sort of leverage situation.
CIN 2 – NYM 4
| Cincinnati Reds | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zach Maxwell | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Caleb Ferguson | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- Caleb Ferguson made his season debut here, and the stuff was down about 2 MPH from last year. We’ll see how he progresses.
| New York Mets | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jonah Tong – W (1) | 3.2 IP | 0 ER | 3 H | 4 BB | 1 K | 7 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Tobias Myers – HLD (3) | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
| Brooks Raley – HLD (9) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Luke Weaver – HLD (7) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Devin Williams – SV (8) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 3 BB | 3 K | 7 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
- Devin Williams once again had no fastball command, and while it didn’t hurt him here, he needs to figure it out soon.
MIN 2 – CHW 15
| Minnesota Twins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eric Orze | 1.2 IP | 3 ER | 5 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Travis Adams | 1.0 IP | 5 ER | 4 H | 2 BB | 2 K | 6 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Orlando Arcia | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
- Nope
| Chicago White Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brandon Eisert | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Trevor Richards | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
- Also Nope
NYY 7 – KCR 0
| New York Yankees | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fernando Cruz | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 4 Whiffs | 41% CSW |
| Camilo Doval | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
- No sliders from Camilo Doval again, but we may have seen the first changeup of his career? And he was throwing 100+ MPH here. It’s hard to quit on this sort of upside despite the inconsistencies.

| Kansas City Royals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| John Schreiber | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
| Nick Mears | 0.2 IP | 3 ER | 2 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
| Alex Lange | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Mason Black | 2.0 IP | 2 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
- Blah
HOU 4 – TEX 3
| Houston Astros | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bryan King – HLD (5) | 0.1 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Enyel De Los Santos – SV (4) | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 6 Whiffs | 39% CSW |
- I’m not sure if the original plan was for Bryan King to potentially get the final two innings, but either way, that didn’t happen as he was only able to get one out before Enyel De Los Santos came in to bail him out. With Josh Hader back this weekend, there’s no reason to worry about who may get teh next save here, but I’m curious to see how they plan on getting the ball to Hader in the ninth. De Los Santos feels like the 8th inning guy, with Okert and Pearson as other setup options potentially.
| Texas Rangers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chris Martin | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 12% CSW |
| Tyler Alexander – L (1) | 0.1 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Gavin Collyer | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
- Gavin Collyer throws his cutter more than I’d wish, still, I just want to see the fastball/sweeper combo with an occasional cutter, maybe.
COL 1 – LAD 4
| Colorado Rockies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brennan Bernardino | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Antonio Senzatela | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| Blas Castano | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
- Even Antonio Senzatela is getting roughed up this week. Just avoid this bullpen.
| Los Angeles Dodgers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Will Klein – HLD (6) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Tanner Scott – HLD (5) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 1 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
| Kyle Hurt – SV (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
- We knew Tanner Scott wouldn’t close out every game and would get the 8th inning if the top of the order is due up (as he did here). Kyle Hurt filled in as the closer and looked great with the velocity up in this one, potentially thanks to that save chance energy.
